The USASA has many affiliated leagues and thanks to the lack of pro/rel, there's no incentive for them to change in structure or become professional. Judging their U.S. Open Cup results against teams in the first 3 tiers, who operate in entirely different worlds, is ridiculous. Might as well tell me how many lower league clubs make deep runs in the FA Cup in the EPL era.

Thats nice and all, but as long as the league is as niche as it is, you can't expect for the league to suddenly overpay for players, especially when the money isnt there. Harry Shipp rejected a six figure salary in Wall St to play in MLS, I'm pretty sure Chicago didnt hold a gun to his head forcing him to sign a contract. Most of these players are in love with the game and are conscious that the economy isnt there to force higher salaries within the league and that's been the situation with American soccer leagues for many years. That's why the players union has sought out to be conservative in their demands for free agency.

The Quakes used to have Landy and now they have Wondo, so they've always had a star American goalscorer. (But Wondo's getting old now so they're gonna have to step up and find a new one soon.)
They just missed out on qualifying for the MLS Cup on Deadline Day this season.
When they had Landy in the early 2000s, they were good, with an MLS Cup in 2001 and 2003 and a Supporters' Shield the year after he left.
After that, MLELS pulled a Cleveland Browns->Baltimore Ravens and sent the Earthquakes to Houston, where they became the Dynamo. They didn't get their team back for 2 seasons.
Then they had a fluke season in 2012 when they won the Supporters' Shield again, but other than that, they've been mid-to-lower-table ever since losing everything they'd worked for to Houston (who won the MLS Cup those 2 seasons the Earthquakes were out of MLS with THEIR roster and coach), only to never again experience that success with the Earthquakes back in the league.

Addendum: the major differences between MLS and yuro leagues that get TV time here are money and history.
Also, they generally have a single table double round-robin with the 1st place team being crowned champion at the end of the regular season, since yuro countries are so small every team can easily do a home-away with every other team. No playoffs to decide a champion needed.

There's this whole block down on St Emanuel that has a bunch of bars to go to before the game that are close by. If bars aren't to your liking then you can also tailgate in the parking lot outside of the stadium 3 hours before the game starts assuming you plan to go with friends.
If you plan to drive to the stadium, best come 1-2 hours early due to shitty Houston traffic unless if you want to ride the metro rail which is Houston's way of getting around downtown on light rail.
Seating for the stadium is alright as long as you don't sit in the blacked out areas in pic related. The upper corner seating is absolute shit. Aside from that there isn't really that much of a bad spot to sit at.
