ML SCUP - !DECEMBER 6TH!
>COLUMBUS CREW
>HOSTING
>PORTLAND REFUGEE TOWN
Who you got /mls/ ?
Is MLS still going on? And Columbus has a team? That's an odd place for a soccer team, never thought of Ohio as a major market.
>>63918629
NHL has similar vision on Columbus
>>63918629
Yes, Conference Finals were yesterday, the Crew have participated in MLS since the leagues inception
>mlels scheduling games on Sunday
Why are they shooting themselves in the foot like this? No American in their right mind is going to watch some minor league's championship on some bumfuck network like FS1 or ESPN8 over the NFL.
>>63918673
Really? So since the 1990s then? Well, good for them, who did they beat?
>>63918714
I agree with you but there's not really many other options, plus ESPN1 and FS1 are pretty good given the leagues stature
>>63918725
They've beaten the New York Red Bulls for their one MLS Cup win so far I think, they just beat them again to host this years final
>>63918758
>New York Red Bulls
Are there any other teams with sponsored names?
>>63918714
>No American in their right mind is going to watch some minor league's championship on some bumfuck network like FS1 or ESPN8 over the NFL.
And it's not just the NFL, most American soccer fans would rather watch La Liga or the Premier League than MLS.
>>63918806
Just NYCFC ;^)
>>63918822
acceptable if you don't have a local team
Oh look, it's the 100% legitimately popular U.S. pro sports league that can't even support ongoing threads during the playoffs
So everyone's talking about the VICE Sports articles on how ultras are a growing part of MLS and how New York had leftist ultras that beat up Neo-Nazis during MLS 1996.
What are /mls/'s thoughts? Especially anyone who attends the games enough to see what these >ultras are like.
>>63919113
There are no real ultras in MLS, you have your fans that want to support the team and then you have your "ultra/hooligan" fuccbois that just want to look like cool tough guys, MLS as a league is very leftist to begin with so there's not many problems, the closest thing to Neo-Nazis in mls are some skinhead latinos that like NYCFC
Think of MLS ultras like an extremely vocal minority whereas most people just want to watch the game
At least we tried boys, 2016 is our year...
>>63918806
NYRB were Metrostars. One of the original teams.
>>63918998
nigga it does tho. Brady lost and all of /sp/ was packed with disposable 1 post threads that pushed every real thread to 404
>>63918673
I line this image. Thank you for sharing.
>>63919915
The thread before that didn't hit the limit before it died. Believe me, I've watched this whole shitshow this season.
>>63919944

It's because of how drawn out the playoffs are especially with every major sport except MLB in full swing, also /r/ mls is actually acceptable because its one of the best mls news sources 2bh
>>63920123
I want them to but I'm giving the Crew the edge, they're the more in-form team atm and they're playing at home, but this is mlels
Also, 2016 is OUR year Union bros
>>63920082
I go there for the articles, but goddam the comments are so horrible. I hope I never have to stoop so low as to read that for discussion
Also, everyone complained about the NASL shills and after they've left the threads started dying. Is this the future we chose?
>>63922222

But then again, you like reddit, so opinion discarded anyway

>>63922464
what lower leagues? PDL is a bastard child of the NCAA's stupid amateurism rules, and NPSL is a joke
sooner or later we'll get a real 4th division
>>63919186
that can't be real :O
>>63922580
You have no idea what you're talking about if that's your summary of the USSF 4th tier.
You also apparently have no idea how many semipro/amateur clubs make up the lower leagues of every soccer country.
The USASA has many affiliated leagues and thanks to the lack of pro/rel, there's no incentive for them to change in structure or become professional. Judging their U.S. Open Cup results against teams in the first 3 tiers, who operate in entirely different worlds, is ridiculous. Might as well tell me how many lower league clubs make deep runs in the FA Cup in the EPL era.
>>63922649
>USASA
It's a glorified rec league
>>63922649
I'd like to see 2 salary cap leagues in the US, that being MLS - MLS2/USL, and from there we have 2 pro/rel leagues, NASL/??? and eventually implement a merging and universal pro/rel but then with pro/rel in place, I'd like to see all of our leagues with a salary cap, I know this would never happen, but a pro/rel system with relevant salary caps in the US would pretty GOAT
>>63922767
Do you have any clue what lower leagues are?
>I "support" an MLELS "club"
USL and NASL becoming 2nd Division of MLS when?
>>63922926
When NASL team owners feel like paying Don Garber $100 million for the privilege of no longer owning their teams.
>>63922926
NASL will straight up fold before they surrender to the MLS
>>63922249
>NASL shills
This. It's a joke. You don't even see the lower leagues mentioned often unless someone talks about 'all the shilling' going on. There's no reason to hate our lower league brothers.
>>63923048
Scorpions bailing for the USL, I think it's only a matter of time
>NYC's season ticket renewals are at 50%
Shit man it's already happened
How soon until Garber officially announces they folded?
>>63923088
Eh. It's more about that one guy enraging everyone.
No one hates lower leagues because they're lower leagues. They hate the NASL because they think they aren't one.

Coaches with no experience in the US/MLS usually struggle, also Man City likes to throw old players who can't be supported into the squad which makes it even worse, I'd be surprised if they make the playoffs next season
>>63927349
An anon in this very thread said he has a friend at Stanford who said that could happen
>>63927414

>>63927397
I'd be surprised if they finish higher than 9th in the East
>>63927457

>>63927550
>>63927457

I doubt he'll ever play for S2
Roldan had like only one appearance
>>63927687
there's also the question of the Copa America Centenario, and the U-23 team if they somehow manage to sneak into the Olympics, those could eat into his club playing time
But I think he'll at least START the season with S2, for a handful of games
>>63927752
Again I doubt that
He'll probably want a guarantee to bypass S2 and they probably need him there given how much Barrett played last season

Not a bad article but a clickbait premise.
Let's look at the evidence the author provides that the Timbers are disliked:
>a satirical article was written about them
>there's a group with two likes called I Hate The Portland Timbers
>their rival used the poop emoji in a bit of banter
A compelling premise

>tfw your team hasn't been blessed by The Based God

Why's that?
How many MLS teams use the same stadium as a football team?

I want offseason to start already.
>>63951105
NASL is just as capitalistic. If they actually practiced what they preached, these anarchists should all be supporting their local USASA club, since those are true community endeavors not focused on maximizing profit but instead providing a compelling local experience and giving developing players a chance to play the other half of the year.

Can the timbers win? I really don't wanna deal with a city of bearded faggots on fixies proclaiming their 'alternative major sporting choice' all fucking week.
They'll probably get a parade... Fuck. They'll get a parade.

I'm rooting for Columbus, but for some reason I got this gut feeling that the Timbers will more likely take this one.
>>63955297
i wouldn't put money on them, but then again i wouldn't say they're underdogs either

Can anyone tl;dr me what exercising/declining options are in MLS, what the Re-Entry Draft is, and what the MLS Waiver Draft is?
>>63955682
>exercising/declining options are in MLS
Basically where teams decide on who to ditch.
>what the Re-Entry Draft is
Ditched players get a chance to be selected by other teams.
>MLS Waiver Draft
Basically out of contract players who are also veteran players get to be selected by other teams.
>>63955682
clause in a contract that allows the club to extend it for an additional year. if you decline a player's option, you don't want him.
re-entry/waiver drafts are essentially the same thing, just the waiver draft is comprised of players who don't meet the requirements of the re-entry draft (age, years in league). they basically replace free agency, because if a player rejects the team that "drafted" them, the team still holds right of first refusal

Thanks bros, sounds like just another way for MLELS to kek players out of better salaries.
In that case, Seattle just ditched prehistoric Sounder Zach Scott and fellow 35 year old defender (though less beloved) Leo Gonzalez.
They also ditched Latino midfielders Marco Pappa and Gonzalo Pineda, both solid contributors who I'm sure will be chased after in 1 of those drafts. I guess they just were getting too old and expensive to justify holding onto for this new look team.
2 other notable Sounders who had a decent amount of appearances but got their option declined were Michael Azira and Chad Barrett.
Honestly not so happy about losing Pappa.
>>63956123
Surprised to see Seattle part ways with Pappa.
>>63956123
>sounds like just another way for MLELS to kek players out of better salaries
More like the Players Union bargained to implement these "free agency" mechanisms in previous CBAs instead of going after a bigger salary cap. Also, I would argue most non-DP salaries are deserved and those few who feel they deserve better salaries can always get them Europe and Mexico. No one is stopping these players from ditching MLS and going to play to better leagues with better salaries. Overplaying most domestic players, like the Arab leagues and China are doing, isnt going to magically make these players better.

>>63934032
I hope they keep Casey. I don't care if he's slow as balls and can barely play soccer, he's a fun guy. And all he does is score goals.
>>63956655
I'd like to see him or Carroll as a player-coach for the Union or BSFC
>>63956431
This is Canada we're talking about
Their well is even dryer than ours
>>63957090
but Vitoria really sucks, Ouimette and Lefevre are much better options at CB for Canada

Wow, what a cynical view towards athletes.
