Well, remember that Urban is never the in-game playcaller. He had Dan Mullen and later Tom Herman doing that since Utah.
Urban Meyer himself has never actually had playcalling duties in his coaching career. He was hired straight from the WR positional coach at ND by Bowling Green. He's an elite recruiter and is able to get the most out of his staff and players, which is what a head coach's job is, not playcalling. However, you do need to make sure you have good personnel around you, and while Meyer has been very successful at finding and grooming good coaches, he hit a dud with Beck.

Head coach and playcallers are different things. Urban Meyer is one of the brains behind the modern version of the spread option offense. He built the playbook his coaches use, the formations, etc., his coordinators just run his offense (which is why you see Beck running Urban's spread instead of Nebraskameme).
Head coaches rarely call the plays regularly. Particularly Meyer, who is involved in running both sides of the ball.
Really though, head coaches skill is about being able to find competent staff consistently as you lose staff members to go on to bigger and better things, recruiting, and player development than it is about calling QB draw on 1st down.

That never stops schools from trying. Even when they land a big name half the time it blows up in their face. For example, Oklahoma firing Gary Gibbs for Howard Schnellenberger. They fired a coach that gave them pretty good but not great teams in favor of someone who won titles at another school and it only got them the worst four-year stretch in program history.

The funny thing is that LSU will be a terrifying team in the future years. They've got Fournette, who as a freshman was a legitimate heisman contender for most of the season. All they need to do is develop an offensive line around him, and there aren't may teams that could stop the corndog nation.

Let me explain to you faggots why LSU is moving on from Miles. Yea he has had a historic run at LSU and is probably still a top 15 coach, but the game of football has changed and ole Les has refused to change with it. The days where LSU could line up and bully the rest of the conference (sans Bama and Florida) are over. The recruiting arms race that the SEC has undergone in the past five years means that now the other teams guys are just as big and just as ugly as LSU's.
Miles can recruit better than just about everyone not named Saban but he cant fucking utilize and harness that talent into a legit contender, and thats unacceptable with the resources and money that is put into the program. His best years are far behind him, the game has passed him by, and the fans/boosters/administration believe that its time to move on. I wish all these reports hadnt leaked out so that the man could have had all the respect due to him but thats just the nature of the business, I expect by the end of the weekend that everything will be made official.
