Both have insane potential, but Towns has a chance to be a level headed, better defending Demarcus Cousins with 3 point range.
Obviously as a 19 year old he's got a long way to go, but that combination of size/power with a fundamentally perfect jumpshot is not that common. He's got the best of the Euro bigs and the American bigs in one package.

The common play is to pick big time superstars that will go big, then complimentary players who will bring value at their lower price. Example, a 3000 player who brings in 20 points is more valuable than a 10k player who brings 60 points.

They gave up basically nothing for him, so no reason not to. He either plays well enough to get them something back in a midseason trade/warrant re-signing to a better contract, or they let him walk at the end of the year after he's tutored their younger players a little bit and hopefully instilled some defensive instincts in them alongside Metta. As Clarkson, Russell and Randle develop, scoring is not going to be a problem. A defense-first guy like Hibbert is pretty ideal for them in theory. He's rebounding at a very solid rate this season, so all he really needs to do is cut down on fouling so he can play closer to 30mpg.
