DRINKING THREAD

Now Drinking: New Day's Imperial Breakfast Magpie (Black raspberry mead w/ coffee aged in Angel's Envy barrels for 14 months)

Just picked up another case today (hence not responding in the last thread). Stuff's so goood!

>i wanna be like your best friend lol
next week is when things get serious with the alcohol <3 how are you

Who is to say you're not already one of my best friends? :3 And good to hear! I'm doing ok. Picked up a case of the above mead. Fortunately, I got there in time to get on as they were only releasing 60 cases. So, had to act fast. hahaa Yourself?

>>23749978
>How much did [a bottle of regular Breakfast Magpie] cost?

$12 from the meadery/store, but I got mine for $10 due to working at a store.
>>
>>23753059
pretty alright. i met up with someone + played this horror game and had a sam adams. was pretty chill
and awww <3 also glad you got what you wanted lol
>>
>>23753070
Which game did you play with your friend?

Yeah, ended up getting there around an hour and a half before opening and there were already 20ish people there. Though, I kind of wish I would've stayed in and slept a lot more. hahaa

Taking beer selfies with an actual camera is a pain in the ass. My phone broke the other day and my temporary replacement has a garbage front camera, though, so I had to try and use my X100.

Anyway, I always seem to go to my local liquor store, stare at the beer coolers for 10 minutes, and then end up leaving with Pizza Port Swami's again. Good shit and I don't have to drink a while six pack to feel anything.
>>
>>23753127
What about using a timer?

Heard some good things about Pizza Port, as well as their Swami's. Cool can design.
>>
>>23753153
Yeah, a timer would be an option, but it'd require getting my tripod from my car and setting it up, and that's a hassle I don't feel like dealing with when I've been drinking and have no pants on.

I like this Swami's a lot. My liquor store has probably 100 varieties of six packs and another 50 or big single bottles, and this is the one I almost always go for.
>>
>>23753011
This just seems like too much for me. You're already gonna age it in bourbon barrels, which should be all that's needed for a good brew. But to add raspberry? Eh, I guess I'm just a snob or something.

Anyways, drinking Buffalo Trace with a bit of ginger ale.
>>
>>23753164
haha, always sucks having to put on pants.

There's always a go to for everyone. Right now, Founders' Mosaic Promise has been mine. So dang good and crushable.

>>23753201
I feel that aging a beer or mead in a barrels can add complexity to it (emphasis on 'can' as many breweries suck at aging their stuff lol). Adding things like fruit can pull the amount of complex flavors out of the beer/mead. For this one, they added the black raspberries before aging it. Honestly, I sort of like the regular version better, but this one is on a different plane and tasty in its own right.

Sun King started me on Indy brews and i started branching out. Within a shadow of a stout and all along the scotch towers at Towyard are the business. Sun Kings wee mac got old and the more i branched out the weaker it tasted. Now their ring of dingle is pretty good.

Very light on the sourness, tiny bit of tartness, HUGE on the peach and mango. Little light on the body, which would be my only complaint. This stuff is going to be perfect for the Summer!

>>
The restaurant where I worked closed down, they had a bottle of Kahlua stashed in the freezer so I called dibs. Also got some beer from St John but it's IPA bullshit.
>>
>>23762084

Which St John? Not the one here in Indiana, is it?
>>
>>23762095
Negative, St. John U.S Virgin Islands, they make good beer, I just don't like IPA.
>>
>>23762101
I don't like IPA either. I was really into beer--brewing my own--about 15 years ago and thought overhopped beer was something amazing back then...ahead of the times, I guess...now I want something more balanced and drinkable...
>>
>>23762101

Ah, I see. IPAs and Sours seem to be the harder of beer styles for most people to get into. Usually takes time and the right kind to like them. But, understandable that people might not like 'em.

At least you have a bottle of Kahlua to party with.
>>
>>23762084
To clarify, I didn't work at the restaurant, it was located on property were I work.
>>23762122
>>23762125
Eh, if I want to get smashed on something bitter I'll make some cheap coffee and pour some vodka in it.
I also have a bottle of Bombay Sapphire in the freezer, might open that tonight.

Reporting back. Just started the bottle and I'm loving it.
And thanks, man. One of the cashiers gave it to me the other night because I mentioned I had lost my bottle opener. She bought it off some Chinese wholesale site for a dollar.

It's always hard to find a good bottle opener that doesn't bend the caps.

I kind of want a bottle opener called a Whaler Slayer. It's made by this one guy and he hand makes them all. Two problems: there's a huuuuge wait list and it's pretty dang expensive. They look cool, don't bend the caps, and can cut through wax, though. Pictured is just one of a handful of designs the guy makes.

Yeah and they're pretty big (maybe like a foot/foot and a half long?). And glad you enjoyed it! Have you had many beers like 120 before?

Oh dang. Well, you don't have to really drink in order to participate.

Hm, that could be interesting. I keep meaning to buy some oranges for other drinks anyway, and then I forget when I'm at the store.

I work at a decent liquor store for now (hopefully getting another interview later this year to work at a brewery). Eh, it's ok since I'm mainly a night person, so it works. Sometimes. For dinner, I'm having delicious cold pizza from two nights ago. Mmmmm.

Ah, I know how that is. Have you ever tried soaking a PB sandwich in vodka and then eating the sandwich? I have no idea how that'll taste/go, but I feel like it would be an interesting experiment. Good luck on getting a new job!

By the way, you by chance know much about the process of making coffee?

CHECK'D. dude if you get a brewery job that would be awesome! kek, I've never tried that but it sounds bretty scary. I have a weak stomach when it comes to mixing odd shit together, lel.
ooh I can help you with the coffee, heh. you have to find paper filters that you can put in the little basket at the top of the coffee apparatus. then you put a scoop of coffee grounds into the basket. then you pour in a cup of water, and you shut the lid and press the "on" button. then you wait and get delicious coffee about three minutes l8er
omg you just reminded me that I have an interview tomorrow, kek. good thing it's at 1

Oh shit, didn't even realize dem best of trips. Nice catch.

Indeed it would be awesome, just like how that PB & Vodka sandwich will taste. hahaa If your body ends up rejecting the experiment, the most that would happen is you puke a little. No problem with that.

Well, with the coffee thing, the main thing I'm unsure of is how much coffee grounds to put in the filter to what amount of water. By scoop, how much would that be? Pic related, the cheap lil' bastard I just bought.

1pm? You've got time to push off sleep for a while. hahaa
>>
>>23767792
eyyy that' what I'm here for
lel pls, I value my beauty sleep. I don't want to have wrinkles before I turn 25. your beard is coming along quite nicely I must add. looks bretty full and happy
the scoop to water ratio depends on how strong you like your coffee. I usually do 2 tablespoons full of grounds per 8 oz of water (it's a bit strong but I need that to wake me up kek)
>>
>>23767803
Hm...will use your measurements first thing in the morning/afternoon when I wake up. Thanks for the help!

Ehh, you won't get wrinkles for at least another twenty years. And even if you did some before then, it'll just make you look more distinguished.

And thanks for the beard compliment. Surprised that it's coming in a little thicker than last time, though I'm still unsure if I should keep growing it or just shave it all off.

Mexican Coke is made with real cane sugar instead of corn syrup.

It goes much better with alcohol because the natural sugar in booze meshes better with the real sugar in Mexican Coke, and doesn't give you that acrid clash that you get when mixing liquor and normal soda.

Get some Plymouth Gin if you can find it. It's actually a totally different style of gin from most of the stuff out there, and it's rare now but used to be popular back in the early 20th century and is actually what martinis were originally supposed to be made of.
