Are we past the Great Filter?
>>
Insufficient data for meaningful answer.
>>

Not quite.

I believe the final stage of the great filter is human morality.

We're letting our species and planet die by allowing 3rd world and hostile countries along with our own uneducated/unintelligent to breed like rabbits and consume this planets finite resources at an ever increasing rate in the name of morality and equality.

This planet has finite resources we can all agree on, yet you dare mention that only the brightest and best of humanity should be allowed to have children and people are horrified. What, allow anyone to have as many children as they'd like until we hit 100 billion? Is that it?

We're not putting a stop to it because of 'morality'. This planet will die unless the most advanced societies eradicate those dragging us down with them.

The great filter is just "Will they annihilate themselves" Which could happen at any time, no matter how advanced.

Fuck dude, Pollution, running out of powerful fuel, War, etc. There's no filter, that shit is just always looming over the horizon.
>>
Option 3 is the most logical when you use conditional probability.
If there were other civilizations at stage 3, they would have quickly found the earth via Von Neumann Probes and cleansed it of life to consume its resources. In other words, we wouldn't exist. The fact that we exist suggests that no other species in our Galaxy has advanced to stage 3.
>>
>>8019566
if the filter lies ahead it is something like we discover a black hole maker that swallows the Earth before we get off this rock. Or it is something like civilization makes us to dumb to progress before we discover AI.

There is not much time for that to still occur even though things are changing exponentially.

The other option is we discover time travel, and colonize the infinite might have beens of Earth past.

Our planet really is a singular paradise in the universe. Why leave if you don't have to?

Maybe the moon is really rare and necessary. I don't see how the filter lies in th past otherwise

>If there were other civilizations at stage 3, they would have quickly found the earth via Von Neumann Probes and cleansed it of life to consume its resources.

>Implying they exist yet or are capable of traveling from galaxy to galaxy in a reasonable amount of time.

It would take less than a million years for a newly evolved intelligent species to spread throughout the Galaxy. Hell, humans have only been around for 200k years and have already achieved space flight. The point is that if we aren't currently consumed, then given how old the universe is it's virtually impossible that any advanced civilization has existed before us, at least within a certain distance radius.
>>
>>8019577
A multiplanetary species is pretty much immune to extinction though.
And any subspecies that fail at technological civilisation will be swiftly conquered by one that don't fail from another planet.

Let's take >>8019574 for example, it's bad because we're only on Earth, but if we were multiplanetary we'd be a easy target for conquest due to dysgenics, by for example nazis from the moon that practised eugenics for the last century.

I'm not saying there are nazis on the moon that are about to invade us, mind you. This was just an example, an hypothetical. Don't worry.

Well your contribution to society is to shitpost in a chinese cartoon board. maybe you should remove yourself and let other more useful people live.

Oh don't worry, under my plan 95% of Americans don't stick around either.

>It would take less than a million years for a newly evolved intelligent species to spread throughout the Galaxy.

>something that we have never observed happen or have any reason to think has happened
>we don't even know if it's possible, and is currently completly impossible with current technology - it happening is completely dependent on drastic changes
>stating the timeframe for which this happens, as if it's a simple fact

fuck off

There is only one filter
Existing in the first place

The best news we can get is to never find life on mars or elsewhere
>>
>>8019640
Literally everything in this topic of discussion is speculation because there's zero evidence either way. As for the time frame aspect, the main idea is that the amount of time to travel throughout the Galaxy is minuscule compared to the age of the Galaxy itself.
>>
>>8019662
So you choose to ignore Occam's Razor when speculating.

Why the fuck are you here?

That chart would look a helluva lot different if you scaled it per capita.

I don't think you understand how population growth works in post-industrial societies.

But yeah, go out and tell people about your brilliant plan to start sterilizing people in Africa.
>>
>>8019566
It really depends on how you define that filter specifically, and part of the point of your little chart there is that the definition is purely speculative and unknown.

I would say that achieving our level of intelligence is probably a leap that almost no species would make in a similar environment to earth. Even then that's subjective as fuck, you can say the same thing about chimps, or even dogs.

You could define it in other ways too. For example you could define the Great Filter as the ability to live longer than twenty years, or you could define it as achieving mortality salience, or as understanding basic mathematics.

Without some kind of qualifying statement added onto the definition you have there it's more or less just asking if we passed a personality test, there is no right or wrong way to awnser the question.

Not letting them in and stop sending 'humanitarian' help would be a step in the right direction if you really cared about the species survival
>>
>>8019577
No. Thats just a standard filter.

The great filter is "will they become a space-faring race capable of interstellar colonisation" before any number of calamities wipe them out, internal or external.

Thus the great filter is primarily a matter of understanding and controlling advanced physics.
>>
>>8019875
By definition, that puts us solidly in option 4, I should add.
>>
>>8019864
/pol/ pls
>>
>>8019705
Or you could define it precisely for what it is: each filter is a point where the species either survives, or goes extinct.

The greatest risk to our species lies in the fact that every single human lives on, and is entirely dependent on, the planet Earth. This would be true for any species that has evolved on a homeworld.

Thus, the great filter is the ability to escape and spread beyond the homeworld. A powerful ability, indeed.
>>
>>8019885
You are aware your intent on ignoring evolution may very well destroy technological civilisation, right ?
Though hopefully, once the west fall through ethnic replacement and misgeneation, the east asians will be free to genocide us all inferiors and get to work towards galactic colonisation.
