Here's a truth for you /sci/
We need a relatively equal amount of idiots and geniuses in this world to be a good civilization. Idiots supply the creativity and imagination while geniuses provide the logic and the capabilities. They mesh together like gears. Would you find that to be agreeable?
>>
>>8159993
You're correct in that societies would probably fail if their populations were disproportionately creative/scientific. But it's pretty silly to call these different sections "idiots" and "geniuses", a top-tier scientist with no appreciation for culture is as close to being an idiot as a top-tier creative who hasn't had a scientific thought in his life.
Besides, no such society could ever exist anyway, very few people are solely creatively minded or scientifically minded.
>>
>>8159993
why do you assume that those aren't the same people?
>>
Being a genius does not have a direct correlation with achievement, neither does drive it seems. A friend I have had since high school, his iq was around 170, physics degree from an ivy league...he is just some code monkey at google. I have never seen anyone with the dedication he had, I wish I knew what happened.
>>
>>8159993
>Idiots supply the creativity and imagination
???????

what did he mean by this?

most people would not associate idiocy with imagination and creativity, quite the opposite in fact
>>
>>8160142
Perhaps consider the idea that your perception of his job is out of line with the reality of how intellectually challenging/satisfying it actually is

>hurrr code monkey
yeah we know you couldn't pass a screening interview at google, it's ok

Idiots or however you want to refer to them would be someone who is technically not inhibited by logic or rationality therefore would have a broader spectrum of thought if we refering to this in a more black and white way.

They could be the same people but I was simply refering to this in a simplified way like if they world were black and white and not a gray area.
>>
>>8160184
A mentally ill person. A person not inhibited by logic or rationality is insane.

But they would still have the capacity for unhinged creativity would they not?
>>
>>8160175
I'm still happily in academia, he has shown me some of the stuff he works on, it isn't really that profound, he just works on one of the analytics teams.

Sorry if you got triggered by all this, I forget how sensitive some of you guys are.
>>
>>8160241
Why would I be triggered? You're the one that lives off a 20k stipend
>>
>>8160293
Haha, its actually closer to 32k. You jumped to insults which is pretty typical of someone on the defensive side of things.

i'm not sure what you mean by being logical. can you explain more clearly?
>>
we do not need idiots. we should sterilize all people who can ruin the gene pool. we dont need many geniuses, intelligence is not the most favored trait evolutionarily speaking, or we would be MUCH smarter than we are. we need about 500 million people, no congenital idiots, and we'd do just fine.

A better way to explain this would be with an example.

Say a guy jumps off a cliff thinking he will be able to fly like a bird or go so fast that he'll traverse dimensions or something like that.

Someone smart would clearly be aware of how stupid that is and would not try it or test it out.

Do you see what I mean?

Adding on to that, since the idiot conceived the idea, the smart person might be able to make that conceived notion a reality making the idiots jump not so worthless after all if the smart person never would have thought of trying to solve a problem of that nature.
>>
>>8159993
No
>>

>Idiots supply the creativity and imagination
Nope.
IQ correlates well with creativity.
>>
>>8159993
>idiots supply the creativity and imagination
Idiots supply the crime, soldiers, welfare recipients, and liberals. Everything good comes from geniuses and lucky bastards.
>>
>>8160215
Define creativity. Innovation doesn't come from idiots. Entertainment doesn't necessarily come from geniuses, but it certainly doesn't come from idiots. You sound like one of those "weed increases creativity in the brain" potheads.
>>
>>8159993
Well you definitely strike me as particularly creative fella.
>>
>>8163161
Idiots make the world go round. We geniuses would starve without them.
>>
Idiots are only there to fund the geniuses, nothing more
>>
>>8159993
Here on /sci we say that artists are among the lowest tiers of usefulness to society, but I know that without artists making anime I would probably die.
>>
>>8159993

You forget the fact that many extreme smart people are also very creative in their ideas.

The more logical and scientific answer would be that you need the average and below average to make sure that our gene pool doesn't get into a genetic bottleneck that would turn us into a species fragile specialists who are stuck in very fixed, very specific environments.

You also need the average and below average because genetically speaking you can't immediately determine the worth of a genome on face value alone. There have many cases where a above average or genius person has appeared in middle and lower class families that may otherwise been classified by someone like you as idiots.
