i find that most people are either good at english or math. is there a scientific reason for this?

confirmation bias: you tend to focus on data that confirms your preexisting belief and overlook data that challenges it.

ok

Isn't it the same kind of skill, though? Both math and language are about working with a code.
>>
Define what it means to be "good" at english. Its entirely subjective. Good at science is mostly objective as it can be measured.

I think its a bias but not confirmation bias. I think it is more a self-fullfilling prophecy. Like "I think I'm bad at math, my confidence in math becomes low and I perform badly." Or: "I am not good at math, so it isn't worth practicing." Etc.

I'm actually good at both. I look down on both people who say they suck at math or English. Git gud anon. Both subjects are easy. English is incredibly easy compared to math though.
>>
I'm quite good at both too, though math is a bit harder to me than languages. I'm not a native engilsh speaker though.

If you're talking about multiple intelligences then no; it's pseudoscience

I don't know if I am. I sucked balls at GCSE English, got a D first time, had to retake and get after-school tuition to manage a C. But here's the thing; everyone has always said that I have good English skills. Also, I read a lot. Therefore I'll certainly concede that I'm bad at English as an academic subject, but I've always felt that my everyday English skills are above average.

It depend on what exactly one consider to be math. If we talk about solving mathematical exercises by a specific (symbolic) algorithm then maybe this skill is somehow related to language abilities (but I am not completely sure here). If on the other hand, we talk about more high level math then to a large extent it is about forming intuitions about some highly abstract concepts and here the role of language seems to be supplementary.

At HS and below maybe. Now in uni my math professors down to TA's are among the most eloquent people I've ever seen.

Please drop your tripcode. Leave it at that one thread.

SAT: effortlessly aced CR and also killed Math II. Great at both. It's genes plebs.
