I am considering becoming, as a career, a historian and writer on the subject of mathematics.
What is the mathematics equivalent to a "popular scientist"? I've seen "Math communicator" before.
What degrees should I look into pursuing?

That's not a career. Just become a mathematician and focus in education. People don't and won't get excited about math like they do for science. It seems too pointless for most(and I totally understand that).

I'm too stupid to really get a degree in Math from a solid university. In HS I wasn't in the advanced math classes because I preferred the regular class crowd. Also to this day Calc (which is still a big focus for American college afaik) doesn't inspire me that much. I prefer discrete math anyday.
But that's not to say that I'm bad at math. I just like to go at my own pace so I can absorb all the details 100%
