In general, any online IQ test is unreliable, and IQ tests really need to be administered by trained professionals.

That said, some online IQ tests are more accurate than others, and if this one is by MENSA then I bet this is as good as online IQ tests get - no one takes IQ more seriously than MENSA. The only real reason to find out your IQ (other than its original purpose, which was to identify which children were intellectually impaired and needed extra academic support) is to access the resources of high IQ organizations, which range from scholarships to grant funds, to access to networks.

Selection bias.
You misunderstand what average intelligence is. Most people on 4chan are above average intelligence.
Someone with average intelligence thinks they're fucking BRILLIANT, if they get an A in freshman stats. They usually go into nursing/medicine, or become public sector workers, assuming they get an education at all. Something like plugging a monitor in is new and terrifying to them.

I'd guess that most of the people on 4chan are actually 110+, regardless of the ridiculous shit they say and do.
>>
>>8054367
Not sure about the problem against scores like 120 and such.

What, to be "smart" you have to be 4 deviations from the mean?

yes you moron, the average can be bad. in this case, the average IS bad depending on what the goal is. since we are in the science and math board, let's say the goal is to be a successful scientist. How smart do you have to be? we can agree that the average person isn't cut out to be a good scientist or mathematician right? hell, I remember in highschool most of the class failed trig and algebra which are unbelievably simple. if you're slightly smarter than them you might make it as a lab monkey just running tests all day but you won't make any meaningful contributions. Even if you're a genius you might still end up a lab monkey but at least you have a chance. that's why the cutoff is high, because most people under that would have very little chance at being successful in an intellectual field.

There is always the same three base figures.
There is obviously a circle and a triangle, the point is to figure out which one is the third.
In (Rows,Columns) (1,3) and (2,1) you can see the figures cut by half and switched each resulting portion. And now you realise that, in fact, both (1,1) and (2,3) can be the original figure nº 3. You could argue that 1 is not a figure because of it's shape but you don't need to.
Third row represents the other modification. Cut by half and the right part is fliped then mirrored.
Now, looking at the options it's only possible for the original to be (2,3) since (1,1) doesn't have the modification as an option.

I think the order of the modifications in rows 1 and 2 are random, not sure.

of course they bump these things up, like all online iq tests do. specially when they're trying to sell you a trip to norway to take the "more controlled test" there. the average is probably around 125 so that it would be inflated as possible while still making sense since the average person still wouldn't qualify with the inflation but someone 7 points above average would. someone with an iq of 107 would still feel vastly superior to everyone else and believe it cause they're the kings of brainlets.

Possibly, though I would venture to say that the average /sci/entist is probably smarter than the average person. Also, there's response bias (someone getting a 90 would be less likely to post it here). I don't really know how accurate it is (I've never taken a actual IQ test).

If you don't believe the average person on 4chan is way above average, you have literally never been outside. And if you nix the garbage boards such as /b/, /s4s/, whatever other cancerous shit the average would go up. Most people posting on /sci/ and /lit/ are in university or have a degree. I'd guess the average for regulars of these boards is about 115, if not even higher.

Feel free to walk into a Walmart and prove me wrong or just go to your local university (usually around ~110 IQ average) and see how much smarter those people are.

The fact that 4chan is 1% black is enough to boost us several points

I did the test in less than 5 minutes got 145 or more. The test was very easy. However the best combination to achieve academical sucess is to have an IQ of 120 - 130, be disciplined and have good study skills.

Most things are easy to grasp what makes it hard are often esoteric notiation and terms you have not heard of before. People in general have no problem to grasp advanced concepts because at their core most concepts are very trivial.

Answer is (3,1)
I missed that one while taking it, but I instantly got it right now.
You add the squares that are in the same side, and cancel out the ones that are in different sides.
>>
>>8056650
Go right to left. If the left and middle have the same color squares on the same side, they add. If they have same color squares on the other side, they cancel out. The answer is top right.
>>
>>8056650
Seriously? Look at the pattern that appears in the column. Same color on opposite side (subtract), same color on the same side (add).

I got 143 but I finished it just before the test ran out of time.
I strongly doubt that you'd do it in five minutes. Several questions must be investigated in kinda tedious ways.
>>8055467
This one as an example has a lot of interpretations which needs to be checked against the answers before finding out that they can't be true.
If you did it in 5 minutes and got a score of 145, it is more likely that you just lucked on the harder questions (they are three or so with only a few viable answers, so maybe) than actually being smart.
>>
>>8056583
To put it simple, I'm pretty sure that your friend has fast intelligence instead of deep intelligence. Fast intelligence is flashy, really impressive in conversations or dynamic envoirments. For making good decisions, developing complex understanding of situations when time doesn't matter (this test) sometimes they fall flat.
>>
>>8056732
It's possible to do it quickly and not be that smart.
Yes, a few are much more complicated than the rest, but one can luck out and "get them" really quickly.

I had two people like this in my last class.
I believe they got the highest possible grades with honours.
However, on the last maths exams I scored better on them on the harder parts (but did a lot of mistakes on the easier parts). The harder parts always required some abstract thinking not previously taught.
It is weird. It seems like they have memorised very strict rules of deduction and cannot abstract or think outside of the box whatsoever.
One of them, whom I talked to a lot, always got mad at me after tests for scoring higher or equally high as him even if I didn't study for them. He studied so much his mum forbid him from studying.

I haven't studied psychology, but I think there is a difference on memorised intelligence and abstract intelligence. The IQ tests test basically abstract thinking. How to identify rules and patters common in mathematical objects.
Instead of understanding these more abstractly some people just memorise how to manipulate the syntax instead.

So ya. I found that the people who constantly aced stuff were the people only focusing on memorisation.
>>
>>8056741
Yes. But if you lucked out and found the solutions quickly, it was still merely luck.
Anyone minimally rational, given enough time, could solve all these questions. Anyone given enough luck could accidentally find the answer.

I left out which part the luck pertained to make it sufficiently vague to include both scenarios.

The history of tests is very interesting.
It is actually possible to see how tests are designed to segregate different groups.
In Sweden, where I am from, when we started having mandatory education, people started taking actions against the lower classes for achieving as good grades.
Firstly arithmetic and mathematics were taught as two different subjects. Mathematics followed Euclid's Elements, and arithmetic was basically just how to calculate quickly. The teachers realised that the children of the working class could solve many of the mathematical problems just as easily as others, and thus started to introduce the "harder sections." These harder sections have never been part of the actual curriculum but is rather a way to test your abstraction skills. These abstraction skills are more common in the upper classes due to academic parents etc. So this was a way to make the working class' grades worse.
Then they realised that the working class still got fairly good grades, so they started to include things like "good explanations" and "scientific language" etc.
It just progressed more and more. Arithmetic and mathematics were forced together into one subject which would primarily deal with algebra taught without the actual mathematical grounds beneath it etc.
It just goes on like this.

There is an interesting period during the 1970s, I believe, set theory and so on was introduced very early to teach children abstract thinking.
It failed tremendously.
>>
>>8056732
No, it took me approximately 5 minutes. I usually do not need more than 10 minutes for test like these. The test was very easy. I understood all of the questions too. The answers are trivial, at least for me. If you know (understand) something then you know (understand) it, it is hard to explain. To me the pattern of all questions was simply obvious.
>>
>>8056769
Sure.
As I've stated. It is more probable that you were lucky or cheated than randomly did that in five minutes. I retook the test and I did it in three minutes, knowing all the answers. Finding the right answers, in a calm manner, took three minutes.
You see how bullshit you sound now?
>>
>>8056774
I don't care what you think. I have done a real IQ test and can tell you that this test is very easy in comparison. I did the test in approximately 5 minutes.

I would estimate that the hardest questions on this test is in the IQ range of 115-120. Basically if you got all questions right on this test you should be able to get an IQ of 115-120 on a real IQ test (raven matrices).
>>
I have ADHD and can't finish these test. The problem is they give you all the easy ones in the beginning and you get tired of doing them after a while. I have a high IQ but I can't ever force myself to finish these
>>
>>8056786
This test is no difference than what you'd see on a "real Raven matrices". I've seen lots of Raven matrices test and they're all the same. If you score well on this you'd score well on this section of an IQ test.
>>
>>8056786
The problem isn't getting the questions right. As I stated, they aren't that hard. The problem is stating that you just happen to find the right answers.
There are usually directly 3 different ways to look at it. Vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Then you have to analyse each row, so there you have directly 9 options to look at a vague non-intuitive matrix. If you're going to look at a matrix which represents an equation like those with boxes, then you need to look at it at least horizontally and vertically to understand that one big black box=3 small boxes (since the last such equation is done vertically and not horizontally).
Of course then there are matrices which do not care of rows/columns but have them there to confuse you etc.
Stating that you would do it so quickly is absurd.
Solving a full paper of equations isn't hard. Doing it very QUICKLY is hard. Not because it requires intelligence, but because it is restrained by other things, like writing speed.
I tried finding what error I did, apparently I did none. When /pol/ and /sci/ started taking these tests, so many have scored so high that getting all the rights answers have dropped from 145 to around 140. This just shows how much bullshit there is on 4chan.
If you would have done it in 10-15 minutes I could have believed you. But not 5.

So, sure, don't care what I think. But you are most likely a liar. And I call you out as one.

But do try this. Take an outside perspective and consider what arguments you have agreed to. First it was luck. Then it is simply easy to recognise it. You've already contradicted yourself here.
You're basically in damage control mode trying to defend yourself on the internet.

I will stop responding now because you're clearly an idiot.
>>
>>8056802
I was talking about the experience of finding something very easy, not the logic of the pattern that appears in the questions. I have explained it (the logic) to people who have asked in this thread.
>>
>>8056815
Haha, why do even you care? Are you retarded or what? I do not know why I can do shit like this very fast, but I can. Do you have problem with this? Do you have some inferiority complex or what? I am smarter than you, deal with it. Yes it is very likely that I am lying, this is the internet, people lie about all sort of things. However I can ensure you that I am most likely one of the smartest persons you have ever talked to over the internet. You are feeding my misanthropy right now. Do you you also think Erdős was lying when he said he could multiply 3 digit numbers in an instant? 394 times 983, is this also impossible because it would take much longer to write down all the steps? Stop making categorical errors...

I was not the first person who answered on your initial question. We are all anonymous so for all you know all your answers might be from different people for all you know. Stop being this stupid. IQ 143, not likely. As I have said, the test is not hard. It is barely in the IQ range of 120.
>>
>>8056849
I never stated I was smarter than anyone. I never said I believed in the test. I never said that I got an IQ of 143 except the test gave me it.

Again, your autism is showing. If you are so smart you would leave it. If you would meet someone as smart as your propose you are, you would too doubt it since that person being a liar is a more plausible scenario.

So this is the end of the discussion. If you cannot prove that you're a genius, it is more likely you're pretending. You won't convince anyone. You should realise this. End of discussion.
>>
>>8056855
Yes, I realize that but it is fun to respond. You are aware that two different people have answered you? Also you have shown why induction does not always lead to the right conclusion in this thread. You assumed falsely that I was the first one to respond, I was not.

There is a methodical way to answer each question correct once you understand what you're looking for.

I would even go so far to say that the pattern are pretty arbitrary, each puzzle had like 3 or 4 patterns which could be argued as correct.
