What's the difference between Software engineering and CS?
>>7981892
Software engineering is a class
>>7981892
poo poo pee pee yum yum yum
>>7981896
isn't CS as well?
>>7981892
engineering falls under ABET accreditation and allows you to get a license as a practicing engineer.

99.9% of the people who call themselves software engineers do not have engineering degrees. They did CS or some tech school programming courses. Waterloo and a couple other engineering faculties give out real engineering degrees in software engineering, but their graduates are a tiny minority of software engineers.
Professional engineering societies are supposed keep random assholes from calling themselves engineers just to sound important, but they're pretty ineffectual, so now every programmer is a "software engineer", every janitor is a "sanitation engineer", etc.

Software Engineering (discipline): Involves the design, development and deployment (or just engineering) of enterprise software.
Software Engineering (education): Education completely based on the design, development and deployment of software. No middle ground bullshit like our partner...
Computer Science (Field of mathematics): The study of algorithms, computation and anything that surrounds or could surround these ideas.
Computer Science (degree): Software Engineering for people who watched too much the big bang theory and want to become le meme scientists even though they know they will end up as code monkeys, usually working under a software engineer who actually knows his shit.

Math. CS constitues web programers, DBAs, developers.
Software engineering is most likely advanced mathematical models and algorithms read by computers powering large medical appliances, spacecraft cockpits or advanced systems of some kind. where the reliance on advance math, algorithm complexity, and robust functionality are paramount.

ABET acredits non-engineering majors as well.
CS is one of them.
>>7981892
>software """""engineering"""""
>computer """"""science"""""
>>7981892
engineers are gay so that's a big one
>>7982003
This is literally not true, software engineering is below pure CS in difficulty and mathematics, but above webdev degrees.
>>7981892
Software engineers learn how to manage programmers.
>>7981892
Software Engineering is where you learn how to write actual software.
CS is where you learn nothing at all.
>>7981942
Why the fuck would you ever actually need to be accredited for a Software Engineering degree?
>>7981987
>question answered
>funposting still continues
"engineer" implies professional liability.
>>7981987
You forgot about all of the ones who chose the major because "I just want to learn to make video games. Why do I have to learn all of this math?"
>>7981987
/thread
Software Engineering is like management for CS. It's boring ass shit. Stay away.
>>7981975
>every janitor is a "sanitation engineer"
Where have you seen this?
>>7981892
Who's this fatty? I prefer women with bodies exactly like that.
>>7983767
Bro, I just got back from Rio
In Brazil, every woman looks like that
>>7983773
I need to go to Brazil sometime. Maybe as a reward for graduating.
Software engineering is either management tier (cancer) or modelling architectures (ok).
Cs expands majors expands in very different directions and it's more deep and interesting.
>>7981975
Most Canadian universities have an accredited Software Engineering degree, not just Waterloo.
>>7981892
SE is what only salty engineers cry about.
CS is something people who don't know it cry about.
>mfw I finally figured out how pointers work
Learning Java first was a mistake
