Do you think the absurdity of a Schrödinger's cat situation points to an inherent flaw in QM? Or maybe our universe is that weird?
I tend to side with the latter, interested to hear other opinions.

QM is absurd. That doesn't mean it's wrong.

The "flaw" in QM can be fixed by accounting for the observer's consciousness.

What's with people reading about Schrodinger's Cat and suddenly thinking they're making frontier leaps in understanding of quantum mechanics.
>>

You've TOTALLY misunderstood the idea of quantum mechanics. It's not about understanding how the smallest parts interact, or anything like that. It's about cats in boxes, that is the ultimatum of QM, of the very field of physics. There is no understand higher than Schrödinger's cat.

OP here.
You can't really understand the cat experiment before you understand basic QM-which I definitely do. It is thought provoking IMO so I created the thread

I think it's a good example of how qm effects could not make sense on a macroscopic scale. Problem is a lot of people see it as an example of how zany qm is.

not sure if bait but..

if you understood basic QM then you would understand that it is the thought experiment itself that is absurd, not QM. or rather, it is the absurd application of quantum phenomena to a macro-system without realizing that such a large system automatically observes itself, thus reducing such quantum uncertainties to an average of collapsed outcomes.

Eh, I guess I'm just annoyed about seeing everyone and their mother reading Schroedinger's Cat and then thinking they're a Physicist.

I think it points to a flaw in your understanding of QM and the "Schrodinger's cat scenario."

How is the copenhagen interpretation doing for you?

Btw, just a reminder that this has already been adressed. The answer is Bell's theorem.

Call me back when you can explain why the percieved probability of observing a quantum state goes with the square of the amplitude.
