Redpill me on photonics, /sci/. Is it the future? Will old school electrical engineers become jobless because of it? Is it a good field to study?
>>7958045
Get the fuck back to /pol/ you troglodyte.

>Redpill me
a hurr durr

>being this butthurt over a word

I can say that it wont leave you unemployed. Its still a relatively raw field but it pays slightly better than engineering. Its a bitch to find a decent job though
>>7958074
I see. Any idea how the field will develop in the future?
>Bamp

I'm not sure really. I'm not in photonics myself my roommate is. Time to time he shows me sum cool shit but their profession is not that crowded and they have limited applications. He had a job offer from the defense sector but he didn't take it.
I reckon if you can find a job in somewhere similar but yeah, finding a decent one will be tough.
>>7958045
No, photonics is just another tool in the EE toolbox.
>>7958045
>Is it the future
Riddle me this, Barnett, what moves faster? Beams of photons in a vacuum or electrons through copper?
>>7958045
Isn't the same thing as optical engineering, a graduate degree for ee and physics?
Hmm, looks like /pol/ has decided to spam "redpill me on X" threads instead of "WARMISTS ON SUICIDE WATCH" threads.
It's a slight improvement. Maybe they'll learn some stuff here.

Interesting, thanks senpai
>>7958546
Possibly, not sure. I saw a photonics course on edX and wanted to see what /sci/ thought about it

The working of electric circuits depends on how quickly an em field is set up in the wire (which is the same as the speed of light) and not on the actual velocities of the electrons, if I'm not mistaken
>>7958560
> people have to suffer my bitching and whining in every single thread coz I'm triggered by memes
Do you have be an obnoxious shitposter everywhere ?
>>7958045
hey im very into this myself, shit is gonna be interesting when the first photonic switches are commercialized
I'm pretty hyped about the possibilities honestly
>>7958045
Visible light is an order of magnitude larger than current transistors. It will have future applications but it won't make EEs jobless
