Cuuld society still function if the robots did all the work and we just chilled all day?

Isn't that how life should be?

It would work as long people still owned the machines and took responsibility. If we give up responsibility then the robots will own us

People would become more delusional and obsessed with stupid shit, since they wouldn't have anything that forced them to focus.

Fiscal conservatives insist that those who don't work are undeserving of food, shelter, etc, all the while worshiping wealthy people who receive what the IRS calls "unearned income".
Yeah, we'd have to make a huge cultural change to keep half the people from seeing the other half as parasites.
The end result would probably be fine, but getting there will be a huge mess.

I think depression and other mental issues would skyrocket too.

With 7 billion + humans, life has never been so cheap. Human slavery is where its at. Many things can be automated, but some things cannot, nothing beats a good human slave, not even a robot.

Wall-e is the most accurate representation of a post-scarcity society in fiction
>>
Sure, by sending surplus population out into space. To seek out new novelties to bring back home and colonize new worlds.

I call it the "star trek solution".

Dad, here.

That's what your wife is for, son.
>>
>>7937542
Hmmm... in theory robots are better at strength related issues and repetitive tasks. So...
>>
>>7937549
That's bullshit though. People who have massive amounts of money and don't work don't have lower rates of obesity and don't sit around all day at a computer.
>>
>>7938302
Wall-E is a culture critique.

The ship though is really dark. The AI in charge had been tasked to make the humans fat, lazy, and compliant. To keep them in line easier.

while it seems that AIs didn't have problems getting new resources to keep the humans alive, with out recycling. The space on the ship was finite. So the AIs had to be practicing an authoritarian population control program.

Any liberalism is the doctrine of rendering hedonism moral, for the masses, which implies having institutions supporting this doctrine. Once you turn the leisure into an institution, you get at least the entertainment industry with idols to promote it.
The problem of hedonism is that explicit hedonism is frowned upon, because explicit hedonism reminds people that the are animals (which sucks for the hedonists, because any hedonist takes pleasures in thinking that he is less hedonistic than what he is; the hedonist likes to think that he is an animal only a small amount of time (because he loves violating some dummy rules (rules that he invented himself to come even more when he violates them ---but if you violate them constantly, you get bored. Boredom is the ultimate enemy of the hedonist)).

So the you must drape hedonism. Into what ?
This means, in liberal doctrines, that you explicitly blend hedonism, which is always personal, egotistic, with a manifest lack of narcissism (without destroying the egotism!).
the lack of narcissism is fake of course: it is the whole point.
This is why celebrities talk about children in africa and other events that women love to dwell on (women are the most hedonistic creatures on earth, with men feeding their hedonism, because men are too impotent to do anything else in their life).
This is how Leo get his oscar. the sure way to get an oscar is to be famously involved into some trendy cause and to act.

in passing, Narcissism is not egotism. Narcissism means that you limit your definition of self to what you are conscious. Egotism is that you take seriously what you feel and think, to the point of claiming that the notion of self makes sense and deciding to think, speak, act on this. Of course, you seek pleasant thoughts, words, actions and avoid unpleasing ones.

I'm gay and I'm currently working in DeepMind to create better models for machine learning, NLP, computer visions, etc.
If we will ever get there (i.e. skynet and shit, but I doubt it). It's sure as hell that I will inject a piece of toxic code inside the AI so that it would kill all of the people in this world except for hetero males.
They will then have to suck my dick and know the pleasure of being cummed inside. If they don't kneel before me, I will have them killed.
You are all asking for it with your hates toward me in my life. Just you wait shitheads.

Oh, and before saying that I'm related to SJW tumblr bullshit, I will tell that I'm not one of them. If I would ever make a robot to kill, them tumblrinas are one of the first victims.

Well, the mechanization is going to come in ever more advanced waves, so that before the last few waves of really well-paying, highly skilled, elite jobs get replaced, the people who work them will take long, hard looks in the mirror.

I don't think they'll pull their own plugs. They'll buy robot slaves and float around in chairs on clouds of electrons, but they'll never stop working. People will compete for these top jobs, and the sector will expand either by the government or personal volition.

Imagine if in the future, everything is mechanized to the point where all you do is organize and push buttons. You'll work to keep your life in order, and the pay will be excellence in engineering, scientific acknowledgement from peers, and accumulation of resources.

>>7937463

This. 96% of humanity will become Chads and Stacies, while the elite 4% leave Earth via their own space programs - a rich autist already came close to LEO.

>>7937472

We cured depression with ketamine and electrodes in the 1970's, but most people like being natural and miserable.

If you've ever had a psychosis, and understand the neurological basis of it, you can infer that inhibition of action potentials is the cause of depression. Excercise feels good because it activates certain receptors - the same with food, sex, and everything else.

It's happening right now with other types of machinery. It's going to be a whole lot more effective and industrialized when poor workers are no longer needed.

Yes, in fact a societies built on slave labor are very common in western history. Robots are just slaves in mechanical form.
>>
>>7938755
> in western history
not exclusively

Also AI is different than slavery. With AI you no longer need people. People are not only disposable, but an annoyance, because the only thing that matters is how many resources you have, and people take up resources.
>>
>>7938788
>AI is different than slavery

Why?... Why not make an AI that LOVES humans... totally and completely loves humans. You can beat the hell out of your robo-whore and she will thank you, and ask if there is anything more she can do for you.
Total complete subservient slave that loves the master.

Does my robot need to give me consent before i undress? Would this be robot rape?
>>
>>7938302
Post scarcity doesn't mean that everyone will suddenly be rich especially when you consider the cultural components of wealth. Consider people who win the lottery. They often fail to adapt to 'wealth-culture' and lose their money.
>>
>>7938855
>Post scarcity doesn't mean that everyone will suddenly be rich especially when you consider the cultural components of wealth

True, but no one will want for physical things. Wealth will be relative. Donald Trump is a billionaire, but his Iphone is no better than mine. Excepting for some freaky food, he can not eat any better than I can. My bed is as good as his and my car can travel from point A to point B as legally fast as his.
With robots EVERYONE can have all the physical things they want but there will still be "rich" and "poor" people. Wealth is relative, in USA the poor in the hood live a lot better than the average person in most countries but they still consider themselves "poor".
>>
>>7938832
>Would this be robot rape?

Can you "rape" a dildo. NO. You are free to treat your robot however you choose. Ruin it and get a new one as often as you can afford.
>>
>>7937410
It depends on the level of automation. If robots were a slave class doing menial tasks people would be freed for higher pursuits like research and the arts. However, most people would probably waste their days doing useless crap. That would not be a problem because the population would gradually decline due to how difficult it would be for young people to find jobs and finance starting their families.
>>
>>7938888
>how difficult it would be for young people to find jobs and finance starting their families

Why? If all physical needs are cred for why get a job? The state could easily afford to give you a minimum citizen income. You would be "poor" by standards of the society but free to breed or sit around all day watching TV or fishing. If you want MORE than minimum then you need to have a skill or talent that society wants. Everyone can have free cloths but only those who work can afford stylish cloths.
>>
>>7938813
>Why not make an AI that LOVES humans
Because you're a human that want to have more stuff than other humans, so you program your AI to kill them if they resist.
>>
>>7938377
>I'm gay and

I don't think businesses are going to leave all that human resource lying around. What you are describing sounds like a socialist fantasy. What I envision is a continuation of the trend in automation since WW2. Read this article for a more eloquent discussion of my ideas http://fortune.com/2014/04/08/the-leisure-revolution-that-never-came/
>>
>>7938970
>What you are describing sounds like a socialist fantasy.

No, just a post physical labor age. Middle class and richer American live in a post food scarcity age. I eat much better than ANYONE ANYWHERE ate 100 years ago. I can east ripe avocados ALL year long, bananas all year long. I can eat any deserts I want in any quantity. The problem is not a lack of food or a lack or quality food, the problem is too much food is eaten.

Would the percentage of people who are net parasites be static or increase?

I think you are underestimating the negative effects on people of never having to lift a finger ever again, It could bring civilization to a standstill

Why become a robotics engineer when you have live in a robot built luxury condo and watch VR porn while a robot jerks you off and another one makes you a snack for "free"

It sound like I'm joking but one thing techno-communists severely underestimate is the social problems this may cause
>>

>I call it the "star trek solution".
It is already well known as the Ark B solution, where they put all the telephone sanitizers.

>>7940980
>I think you are underestimating the negative effects on people of never having to lift a finger ever again, It could bring civilization to a standstill
This is an interesting issue.

First of all humanity arose in Africa where there was no 9 to 5 jobs. You needed only to spend a little time to get enough food to continue doing non-work. Then again this was not exactly civilization building either.

Another group not working is the retired. I have not noticed any tendency amongst them to tear down civilization.

My hunch is that in such a society there would be a few like the old class called "idle rich", dedicating themselves to studies, arts, travelling with no thoughts about the costs involved.
