Why care about anything in deep space? It's not going to affect us in any way and it's probably not even there anymore
>it's probably not even there anymore
explain
are aliens stealing our space?

since everything is moving and takes some millions of light years to get to us the object could be gone and it's light is just now reaching us
We're just curious, anon, that's all.
it doesn't hurt to care about deep space
it's not like we're trading off world peace for research
also, if you think about it, there's a LOT of fields of research that don't affect us in any way, yet are loaded with lots of really smart people
IMO, cosmology and astronomy are some of the most noble of the "doesn't affect us" pursuits
Studying some exotic fenomena can give us more inside how everything works and when we understand it we might be able to use it ourselves.

>It's not going to affect us in any way
Well that's simply wrong

I believe you are correct. And I believe that even if you were not correct, the opposite case could never be made.
Besides the fact that studying deep space is a passion for many. Studying the universe does indeed affect us. How can we learn about the laws that govern the world if we only look around us? As we look to the skies, we see the most extreme conditions ever. Conditions that even man couldn't imagine. These extremes push our ideas of physics and math to the limits. So many advances in human understanding is a direct result of studying the night sky.

We can learn from the study of deep space
Learning leads to knowledge and advancement of technology
Of course making observations is relevant
>>7919843
Because we can care about things that do not affect us. /thread

>It's not going to affect us
if we get hit by a gamma burst or some hypernova we're dead

You're not allowed to announce sages.

Cause we are a part of deep space. We are really just studying ourselves. It's what we were before we were born and it's what we will be again after we are dead. After you are dead you might regret not seeing the rest of the universe from this perspective.

>After you are dead you might have regrets

>Why care about anything we can't eat?
... because of the drive to learn, which you lack.
>>7919843
>Why care about anything in film? It's not going to affect us in any way
>Why care about anything in music? It's not going to affect us in any way
Curiosity affects us anon. Discovery is the greatest gift we can bestow upon future generations.
>>7919843
Of course it can affect us.

> not wanting knowledge for the sake of knowledge
