>tfw you backtest your trading strategy using a machine learning algorithm and the best you can get is a 0.23% annualized return

How do hedge funds do it / sci/? They hire so many math and physics autists
>>
you dont have enough data

>How do hedge funds do it / sci/?

Writing laws via their pet politicians to allow them to leverage with money they don't have and disperse risk onto the taxpayer.
>>
>>7905164
>I USED A MACHINE LEARNING ALGORITHM WHY IS IT SO BAD

... did you not think that they might have actually good machine learning algorithms?
>>
>>7905164
0.23% is pretty good
Just take out a £1 000 000 loan and you get ez 2300

Bam
>>
>>7905164
>a company that hires the very best mathematicians, engineers, physicists and computer scientists all of whom work 50-60 hours per week with the most cutting edge hardware and technology to ensure they make more profit than you actually succeed
this is surprising? why?
>>
Please don't be trolling. Are you PhD dude from a couple days ago?
>>
>>7905366
Good luck getting a million pound loan with less than annual .23% interest
>>
>>7905164
I tried to make some trading algorithms too but there's no use. You can't compete with the big companies
>>
>>7905376
Ahhhhh.. OK, revised plan

Steal £1m pounds
Invest
Return
Bam
>>
>Thinking you can "beat" the system
>Not just investing in S&P to get your guaranteed 7%

There's nothing smart about playing a rigged game
>>
>>7905164
Insider trading and actually analyzing information.
Automatic trading won't work if it can't even take a company's 10k into account. Let alone all the rest
>>
>>7905373
IIRC that dude already claimed 20% returns from his backtests or something
>>
>>7905372
What is insane is that this in no way serves society. It improves nothing for anyone except for giving money to the owners.
No product, no service, nothing. Its essentially legal theft.
>>
>>7905438
They are parasites.
>>
>>7905438
Except helping to safeguard and protect against large scale corporate expenditures while helping to maintain their assets value.

They take some off the top, but helping keep GE from losing excess revenue and cutting jobs sounds pretty good.
>>
>>7905285
This. The people getting good results have orders of magnitude more data than your are capable of getting and processing on your own.
More data > better model.

>>7905438
Yes it does, it improves liquidity, which makes the market more efficient. Efficient markets=>stronger economy=>less poverty.

I agree that it almost certainly has a net negative effect on society, but I just think it's important to point out that it's not black and white.
>>
Rule 1 of hedgefunds is you use someone else's money. Once you succeed at that part, little else matters
>>
>>7905438
>legal theft.
exactly.

>>7906154
>Yes it does, it improves liquidity
that's bullshit.
Having a bunch of analysts that decide where people should invest long-term money?
Sure, that's a service to society?

Having a bunch of analysts to figure out how to make 10 millisecond exchanges to rip people off?
Thanks but no thanks, you filthy parasite.
>>
You mongs act like there's absolutely no risk involved in investing.

Hedging sounds like the devil's investment plan on paper, but it does serve a function in economics.

That being said, they certainly could use a fair bit more regulation, especially in regards to investment transparency to even their own investors.
>>
Sounds like you're trying to predict the market. Hedge funds make money by trading, not investing.
>>
>>7905164
What was your dataset and what algorithms do you use?

>0.23%
Lol
>>
>>7905164
hey man thats not so bad

investing 10 grand would give you 2.3k each year

not so bad for not doing much
>>
>>7905164
>machine learning algorithm

You fell for a meme.
>>
>>7905438
dude the stock market is entirely fucked up and is capitalist at its core - profit driven madness
where does it improve competition or provide a service?
the only reason it exists is for the government to be able to justify looting social security
>improves liquidity
which is only important in economic downturn so we can all suffer as reactive markets spiral quicker... long-term stability is totally irrelevant to the stock market

do you get better prices from b to b sales, or from a pawn shop?

yep liquidity is shit
>>
>>7906382
10 grand gives him 23 dollars a year the fuck.
>>
>>7906392
what is the DEFINITION of "fucked up"? can you quantify it?
>>
>>7905438
>What are pensions
>What is liquidity
>What is investment

I want communists to leave.
>>
>>7906382
>>7906399
Are you guys baiting?
>>
>>7906378
>What was your dataset and what algorithms do you use?

I just used historical returns. What other data is there?
>>
>>7906771
irrational and cannot be rectified with a sound economic planning
>>
>>7906789
>re: social insurance
>pensions are socialism/communism in action
>pensions are gutted ofted to pay for short term losses vetted by the stock market
fuck you you alt-right retard
>investment
the single greatest lie ever told by the american dream was that letting the average joe become a shareholder was good for him
