Why is biochemistry so much more interesting than pure chemistry?
I guess because you get to learn how your body works or whatever
In the meantime, organic chemists are making FUCKING MOLECULAR CAGES
>>7746419
Because chemistry is only interesting in applied situations. Pure chemistry doesn't have some deep interpretation like pure physics does.
>>7746437
it does, for biochemists
>>7746443
Such as?
>>7746419
Just wondering- How many chemical reactions go on in a person's body per second?
>>7746426
>those molecules
Sexy as fuck. What am I looking at?
>>7746537
Too many to count. Consider that the human body has ~40 trillion cells. Even if each cell just performed 1 reaction that's 40 trillion reactions.
>>7746537
over 9000

wanna see a picture that will make your dick turn to diamonds?
which /sci/entists want to see it?
>>7746605
sure
>>7746605
Please.
>>7746605
I guess. Wasn't using it anyway.
>>7746537
About 4.
-Air breatheing
-Food turns to poop
-Water turns to pee
-Heterologous autophosphorylation of receptor tyrosine kinases.
>>7746604
but it is 100% true
half the time new reactions are handwaved to the very foundation
the most fundamental and basic chemistry has never been fact checked for transition states, and is - i bet - often wrong
some of the most interesting new chemistry papers are manipulating DNA...
chemistry is not very impressive
>>7746668
Ah you mean that metabolic pathway map? There are actually even more reactions, since it doesn't count the reactions that happen when DNA is copied, transcribed etc.
>>7746666
what about physical chemistry? You can get a computer to spit out spectra for complex molecules from physical constants and a sufficiently accurate estimation method. Just because most of chemistry is still largely experimental doesn't mean that it's all just handwaving. As computers continue to get faster you'll see chemistry approach the same level of "provedness" as physics today.
