But you still can't pronounce it.

Bane-ux?

Tell me about Banach. Why does he carry the norm?
>>
>>7729570
Because it made him feel complete?

Banach spaces are cool. They have rich spaces of bounded linear maps to a scalar field, and you can use these spaces to give the original space a new topology which is strong enough to define properties you care about yet weak enough to be locally compact. Local compactness -> existence results, because it's a complete metric space.

Ban-ackh
How is that not obvious?
>>
>>7729661
Oh, whoopsy, that last line should be:
Local compactness + a lot of work -> existence results, because it's not simultaneously a complete metric space and a locally compact space, but it has two structures that require work to go between.

Its actually pronounced ban-aks

No shit

Check wikipedia
>>
>>7730406
No, it's pronounced "Baaah-nah-kh"
>>
>>7731686
It's clearly pronounced "Ba-na-na-kh?" (with the inflection of a question at the end)

It's like you've never taken a class in elementary functional analysis desu
