One thing you have to keep in mind is that the sun is so far away that the beams of light are virtually parallel. In order to block 3% of the suns's rays you would need an object 3% the surface are of a circle with the Earth's radius. That's a big-ass fucking floating satellite.

The problem is that there are just too many unknowns. One overlooked subtlety of atmospheric factors and we could make things a thousand times worse.

We didn't know CFCs would punch holes in the ozone, we didn't combusting too many things too quickly would cause CO2 to build up faster than it can be converted back and cause global warming and we don't know what the long-term effects of whatever you propose putting into the atmosphere in order to increase Earth's albedo is going to be.
