Will a high IQ brain lose IQ after brain damage? Or does high IQ allow for more regeneration / existing neurons to work more efficiently?

It completely depends on the damage. You have to be way more specific.

Hi IQ guy here (top 1% of respondents in 3 occupational tests) with brain damage (to cerebellum following two separate strokes induced by a vertebral arterial dissection)

Cognitive functions for the most part unaffected - abstract reasoning still very good and verball (written) expression remains strong. memory (short and long term) patchy to say the best though. I occasionally lose my train of thought when talking. have difficulties managing multiple thought stream simulataneously (particularly in high pressure situations). If tired feel vague and wooly headed.

in summary - most of the time not much affected, but in some ways diminished when under stress or in demanding situations

all i know is that high education means a delay in alzheimer's degeneration because people are better at working around symptoms. but when those do go downhill, the rate of decline is steeper.

cerebellum is more coordination than cognitive

Not exactly, from what I understand, as long as you keep engaging yourself in any productive activity (problem solving of any kind, teaching, etc), there'll be a delay.

>tfw NEET
>tfw killing my brain more and more each year

Pretty much.

We actually don't "know".

We need more brain research funds, and we can stop circlejerking about IQ pseudoscience and all that bullshit.

There is something called 'Neuroplasticity' and it has to do with brain regeneretive functions. Right up your alley.

can you really be sure this isn't all in your head?

Yes. After I left the hospital my insurance company sent me to a rehabilitation therapist where they tested my cognitive functioning. I did well on the logic puzzles and pattern recognition things but when they asked me what year it was I said it was 2006 (it was 2012). Even now I have problems with the year.

having brain damage is like having a empty spot in your brain. Most of the time things function smoothly, but every once in a while a though process hits the dead zone and stops dead in its tracks. I feel that no amount if neural plasticity will change that (even though I'm quite young and use my brain a lot)

Your brain repairs itself

I don't know EXACTLY how dim NFL players are yet I would not say they have reduced largely and that's about the maximum you can let happen.
