I know lucid dreaming is the best thing I ever started doing.
Just wanted to bang anime grills at first but flying and exploration of the subconcious quickly became my #1 activity

Being schizophrenic helps a lot.
But mostly trough just being really, really aware of your surroundings. Eventually, that awareness will seep into your dreams as well, making you realize it's a dream.
You can begin by trying to push one of your hands trough your other hand every hour while trying to notice anything 'off', and concluding wheter you are asleep or awake.
Eventually, one night you'll try this in a dream and come to the conclusion that you are dreaming.
From there on the trick is to maintaining that sudden moment of clarity.
It won't last longer than a minute at first, but eventually you'll have hours of hyper-realistic completely free-to-do-whatever-you-want dreams

Also don't fall for new age bullshit like 'astral travel'. Remember that all lucid dream related things (including out-of-body sensations) happen INSIDE your head.
If you lose track of what's real and what's not you'll be on meds in no time.
