I've been applying for internships this whole year and I've been in a similar position many times. I don't have an answer for you anon, I really don't fucking know. Something that I did learn though, is that obviously fake enthusiasm is way better than being honest. And in time you might even get really good at faking, so they can't tell (has not happened for me yet, but I'm hoping it will).

Be thankful you don't have to do assessment centers (UK internship and graduate programs have these) where you actually have to do group exercises with other candidates and everyone has to act super extroverted.

>wear suit to interview for grocery position (because education told me so)
>get the job
>months later new applicants being interviewed
>no one's wearing a suit
>some little awkward shit walks into the store wearing oversized suit obviously from daddy
>over-hear coworkers say he looks like a douche coming in with a suit
