The underlying tone was that he had some weird father/daughter fantasy going on. It was never implied he wanted to rape her. Aside from the autism fits, he was nothing but kind to her. And h probably only killed the other girl because she tried to escape also. If they had only played nice from the beginning he would have never done what he did.
