Hillary is a mainstream candidate. Bernie is mainstream left. The Republican establishment will never allow Trump to succeed, but until they swiftboat him, he controls the dialogue along with Uncle Ben. The more he talks, the more he makes conservative ideals sound more and more unhinged, the more conservative ideology is seen as lunatic and backward.
Tumblr liberals aren't the cause of Trump's success, they're a response to it. Notice how no democratic candidate is engaging him? Because to do so would legitimize him and his ideas. Bernie and Hillary both know that Trump supporters will never vote for either of them, so they don't have to engage him in any meaningful dialogue.
