do 1-2 year at community college, get a 3.6 gpa, retake classes if you need to
transfer to a uni (one with best internships preferred, but if you are gonna just have to look outside of the uni anyway, find one between 8-15 grand a year)
study uantitative finance(finance + stats/actuariel science) or real estate (not sure about this, but at least spend your free time checking out city/state/federal/international laws and real estate bubbles, and maybe get a backround in a trade such as carpentry so you know how to haggle with contractors when appreciating a homes value)
Get a hard cert (actuary, finance analyst and real estate agent all have different certs) while in college and do one/2 internships, then work a normal job.
You don't have money like this lad, so it'll be harder. Also the 3.6 gpa is actually a bitch from community colleges since they are required to fail a certain amount of students every semester.

It's really not that bad. Get into a trade, land an apprenticeship in some union. Whatever it is, it'll pay better than retail and if you stick with it long enough to get your Journeyman certification, you'll be making at least $20 /h.
