Hiya. Undergraduate textbooks are pleb tier, so don't worry about for now. First, get an introductory background in biology (since neuroscience is a subset of biology). Watching online classes from a uni will help -- MIT has some good content. I'd also recommend a used, old edition of Cambell's biology. Then, if you really want to learn neuro, Kandel's principles of neural science is God tier. I haven't read it because it's more grad level, but I've seen some of it. Finally, read lots of neuroscience articles, which really are the essence of neuroscience. Neuroscience labs do weekly journal clubs. Learning to understand the figures and discussion is the most important part of neuroscience.

I don't know what to do anons. I'm falling behind in all of my classes, I can't focus, I don't know how to study, I don't have any friends, and I don't know how to reach out to anyone. I'm considering dropping out, or at least taking a semester or 2 off to take a breather, get my liscence, maybe work a little, and hopefully go to a shrink and get a diagnosis for my autism spectrum/add/adhd. On another note, there's this one girl for whom I have been developing some feelings. I have been amassing a decent amount of acquaintances during this first month at college, but I'm pretty sure I'm the only one she actually talks to on any consistent basis. Fun fact: If you study STEM in the US, it is better than pretty much anywhere in the world. The majority of the top 50 science schools in the world are American. As a matter of fact, if you go to a school around the 200s ranking, you can still get a job pretty much anywhere in the world.
On top of that, most doctoral programs will pay you to go to school on top of giving benefits for being a research assistant, teaching assistant and tutor (at least as far as physics goes, because that is what I study). It isn't uncommon for a school to dish out 30k - 50k to students who know their shit.
My advice to you would be to drop the psychology, or marketing degree and pick up one that actually can benefit the world. People practically throw money at you

I have struggled with depression in the past. When I lost my girlfriend in high school, and when I lost a relationship I had with a very sweet girl in the summer of 2014. I wouldn't classify it as major depression but mood swings from happiness to sorrow quickly. I've learned it's more of a mind over matter kind of thing. I am still a realist but try to be an optimist when I can and avoid long periods of pessimism.

This is what I'm trying to do. I'm undergrad Physics at a small local university because I can't afford to move away. That being said, I'm kicking school's ass and will hopefully have some a nice internship or two under my belt before I complete my degree.

to be fair, the last time I brought it up, I was in the 8th grade, and I was absolutely terrified of giving presentations, so that was a driving factor behind wanting a diagnosis. Hopefully things will have changed since then, or at least my mom will be willing to help me get help since I'm an adult now. I never got the whole dismissiveness thing though. If we think there's something wrong with us, why act like we're perfectly normal, when if you're anything like me and 90% of the other posters on this board you probably have obvious issues with intranpersonal relationships/interaction.

They were better for my first three years. I had a 3.96 and then they fell miserably after I realized that I didn't actually want to go to medical school and had no interest in my major. Now I'm on a year-long academic recess because I didn't go to any of my classes last semester and failed all of them. I'm very disappointed in myself, but at least I know what to do when I get back.

I made a core of amazing friends when I was working at McDonald's just before starting college. They all went to the same university as me but have since graduated. Two of them are working with the Peace Corps; one of those two has already gained a deferred acceptance to medical school. My other good friend just got accepted to an osteopathic medical program down South.

Fuck no. Even though I screwed up last semester something awful, my life is so much better than it was in HS. I used to be an autistic sperg who would actually eat his lunch in the bathroom like a meme, who couldn't have one-on-one conversations, and would get up and walk away if a girl sat at the same table. Now I've slept with a lot of women, have traveled across the world, and have a pretty good life.
