I was born and raised here. I can't imagine living anywhere else. We have everything, beautiful Beaches (Manhatten, zuma, and redondo, not venice and santa monica) The Mojave Desert for camping and gun shooting, the snow is less than two hours away, we have the rich neighborhoods, suburbs, farms and ranches, hoods and ghettos all within 200 square miles of nothing but city (see the San Fernando Valley) The taco Shops in East Los, The hollywood hills (here in my garage) and the sunset strip. The South bay is big as fuck but no one ever goes there since it rains bullets. Every type of food you can get within 5 minutes (and its not shit either). Almost every movie, tv show, and porno is filmed here. Every activity or sport exists here.

If your a transplant you can fuck off unless you have a job already lined up. We have WAY too many 'Starving artists' who grew up in Memphis or Cincinnati and wanna come here to make it big. This is exactly how I feel about LA, as somebody born and raised right on the 818/323 border.
There's also just this weird expectation of how you should act here that I think is a real robot-generator. I've felt "normal" in other cities like SF and Seattle, the general vibe there suits me, I can socialize, and even get women. Here in LA, though, people think your're some kind of antisocial weirdo if you're not super outgoing and perky all the time. You have to be a turbochad to be normal here.

I was super young during the riots. This is basically not at all what living in LA is like, aside from chilling at the beach (enjoy sitting in traffic for an hour to get there) or going to the mountains (ditto).
You almost never see celebs unless you make a point of hanging out around celeb hotspots, most of the girls are fat mexicans, and you get sick of the constant warm weather.
Speaking of the weather, it has a weird effect here. I actually never thought about this until the girl who cut my hair the other day, a midwest transplant, was saying it, but the lack of seasons really fucks with your sense of time. It's like years go by here with nothing happening and you don't even notice it.
