Oldfags, reminiscence and tell us how your lives are!

> first visited 4chan end of 2005
> /b/ and /s/ were so cash
> took part in few of the raids (Habbo hotel and I think some talk show hosts)
> LOIC was the word
> was here for the first iteration of /r9k/
> fuck you moot for killing and splitting up what was the only good community for Bojack Horsemen of the society
> graduated community college with a shit-tier IT degree, after having dropped out of 2 good-tier universities in my country
> started my own company, which is still failing and not earning livable profit after 2 years of miserable existence
> still a handholdless virgin 10 years later drinking wine alone in my room at my mom's place
> photo is of a ganguro who was spammed hard on /s/ when I first joined (Juno from Silkypico)

So, how were the last 10 years for you?
>>
>>25342273
I've been playing videogames and going to school
>>
>>25342273
It's sad that you consider any of this noteworthy.
>>
>got here in 2008 right after ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH
>boxxy
>left /b/ for greener pastures (/v/)
>branched out from there to /a/
>then /r9k/ and /new/
>both died, wanted to beat up moot
>/pol/ comes out
>gets deleted
>comes back
>tons of memes and shit
>got to talk to some famous people a couple times (I helped translate a Touno Mamare thread on /a/)
>I miss moot a lot
>>
>>25342458
Exactly, nothing of this has been noteworthy. Life has stayed pretty much the same for the last 10 years. Just... typical /r9k/ material
>>
>>25342273
Juno is much less hot than I remember her being.

I've been coming here on and off since '03. Just a few random memories, I guess:

>EVERYBODY was into anime. The term weeaboo didn't even exist yet.
>There was more actual discussion and less hostility when somebody went against prevailing opinion
>Threads went off-topic constantly, and nobody cared
>Moot actually posted
>Most memes were inherited from SA or 2ch.
>Memes were more meta and less repetitive.
>>
Is that a fucking real doll or not
>>
>>25342273
Why is there a huge gap in your history of being on 4chan? Sounds like you read ED then tagged on the few things you actually experienced.

>caring about habbo hotel in the year of our lord 2015
>>
>>25342553
Same here. I remember when I was first posted her on /s/ to ask for source/moar and got about 20 replies of lurk more/newfag/etc until somebody posted with her name. About /s/: there was a Slavic-named female tripfag who provided some really good shit of professional photoshoots (maybe it was Katya).

And I still like to visit Dagobah every few months just to check out the old memes.

>found 4chan in early 2007.
>didn't actually start posting til 2009 when i turned 18(somehow thought if i was underaged and posted regularly that I'd magically get banned)
>camwhored a ton in 2009, like probably posted well over 60 pictures of requests people had me write stupid things on my tits.
>got real bored of camwhoreing and stopped completely, only later to realize how fucked it would be if anyone who i knew ever got those pictures
>meanwhile went to community college for 2 years and got a bachelors in 2011
>Went full NEET all of 2012
>Got job taking care of mentally disabled people in 2013 and been working there ever since

Not that exciting of a life. Find if funny as hell whenever I see other girls post tit with their face, its 1000 times easier to find out who they really are nowadays then it was when i did that stupid stuff 5-6 years ago.
>>
>>25342273
>Find /a/ on my moms laptop sometime in late 2007
>Dont think much of it, go off shit they post and start watching shit like Gundam, Evangelion, and some shitty magical girl show
>End up telling my mom that I was using her laptop to look at the anime picture website.
>Flips shit, PW locks laptop (keep in mind I was 14-15 round then)
>get computer of my own
>find /a/ again, find entirety of 4chan
>main /a/ and /h/, browse /b/ every now and then

I dont remember much except being told to read VNs and watch boku no pico.

Mou Ikkai used to be big, though. I saw it all over
>>
>>25342553
Memes were contained in their own threads such as

>candlejack thread

If you didn't want to go do that shit, you could just stay out of the threads.
>>
>>25342630
I thank the lord that all of my tit pictures posted on /b/ in 2007 are long gone.
>>
>>25342606
Oh, because there actually was a gap between 2008-2009 and then 2010-2013. I first went through compulsory military service and then later on tried to get my life on track: deleted porn, went to all of my classes in college, tried to be a normie (got a job, tried to hang out with normies at parties) and so on. As you can already guess, I failed.
>>
>>25342553
>Moot actually posted
God, Those were the days. I think in the entire last 2 years of Moot running 4chan the only thing he did "post" was when he fucked with /a/ for a day or two and made the entire board akusa(Asuka backward). Its shitty, moot used to be a really community interactive guy.
>>
>>25342679
Probably gets boring after a while, lets be honest.

I take huge breaks from 4chan sometimes, but if you own 4chan, you can't just leave.
>>
>>25342660
thats what I'm saying. Wouldn't be surprised if you could damn near google image search a tit picture and end up at a girls facebook, twitter, and email address these days.
>>
>>25342697
I can see that. He probably burnt himself out years before selling the place, and even the thought of posting just made him cringe. Like another part that made moot stop reguarly posting was that in the early days people would just continue the discussion like normal with him there. In the later years him posting would completely derail threads because newfags that never saw him post before would circlejerk around him for the entire thread and not continue the discussion at all.
>>
OP here: a few other things I remember from old /r9k/.

There was this thing where there was always a thread with 'how does it feel like to hold a girl' and you had to post an anime picture with a guy holding a sad girl in snowfall.

Also, old /r9k/ had tripcodes and people had the silliest tripcodes that were possible and they supported UTF-8! I think mine was something like f(Prince of Sadness) (f is the symbol for a function in UTF-8) or some shit.
>>
>>25342622
oh fuck, I forgot about the days when /b/ was wordfiltered to Dagobah.

This site has always been shit, but I think the thing that really put the nail in the coffin was when the whole "anonymous movement" became a thing. Before that, this website was just a place, with locals and newcomers, but it wasn't an identity or a "group" or a movement. In fact, "4chan is not a secret club" is one of those ancient memes.

And then the whole guy fawkes mask fucktards came around, and suddenly all these edgy high school kids started pouring in from Gaia etc. and trying to make the site exactly that, their secret club.

That was about the point where the whole "newfag" thing started, too, and what's funny is that it was something made up BY the newfags, and everybody would immediately call anybody who used the term out for being one themselves. The fact that it's used non-ironically nowdays always seems amusing to me.

You know, in general a lot of things that started as jokes and memes have been absorbed by the community. Racism in the old days was all parody, and now we have this /pol/ generation who actually believe the shit we joked about, here on /r9k/ (and to a lesser extent on /a/ and /jp/) we have people who bought into jokes about NEET and virgin superiority, etc.

Pretty similar.

>first visited 4chan end highschool 2004
>was pretty meh
>didn't really give a fuck about closing any pools or /b/ lolsorandum crap
>started coming regularly 2006-2007 for /tg/ stuff
>was here for the first iteration of /r9k/
>worked shit jerbs
>graduated uni with useless lib arts degree
>moved out with dumbass roomate
>worked more shit jerbs
>graduated college with more useful stem diploma
>worked yet more shit jerbs so at least no debt
>finally got a decent jerb
>got my own place
>got a car

It's alright I guess consider I never had long term goals or any idea what the fuck I'm doing.

You're jealous that you couldn't see the golden renaissance of the internet boom.

>>25342273
I discovered 4chan when I was 12 while searching for hentai. I lurked and never posted, ever. I was there for the habbo raid, and trolling kids like christianU2ber.

I remember using LOIC and when egg was word filtered to duck. I remember DESU DESU DESU and all that shit.

This video right here man.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar4WzQ7KHak

After the boxxy wars I retreated to 420chan for a long while before getting a reddit accout so I could get access to some of their private torrent trackers.

I'm 21 now and it's been a long ride, who else here /internetOG/?
>>
How the fuck did /r9k/ become what it is now, anyway?

I remember when it started, and it was just alt-/b/ with the robot to keep things "original" because /b/ had been completely overrun by meme spam, and then I ignored it for years and came back to find that it was what it is now.

Am I remembering right that the board was actually taken off the site for a while, or did I just ignore it?

>was using the internet while most of you faggots werent even born
>basically anyone under the age of 25-28 who comes here is some edgy faggot who belongs on an app not an image board. 4chan and similar websites are not a part of your generation and you should fuck off.
>you have Facebook, tumblr etc fuck off.
>look at me I'm using the same image board as some 1337 haxors did about 5 years before I heard of them via mainstream media.
>just fuck off little newfaggots
>>

I remember her, but she was already a remnant of ages past when I started posting and I didn't take part in harassing her.

>>25342851
Yeah, /r9k/ was taken off the page and moot suggested we go to /soc/ or some shit. It didn't work out and so he restored /r9k/, but the consequences were never the same (hah!)

Stop this nostalgia nonsense.

4Chans was never "better" than now. MEMES were never as real as now. MEMES literally kill people IRL, close universities, produce president candidates... We are witnessing the golden age of MEMES and 4chan. We can literally make some random guy "eggman" a mass shooter and have media cover it just 4 lulz. Stop living in the past with muh "sicret club" was better in 200X's.

It was less saturated and (slightly) higher quality. People tried much harder to impress you. High quality stuff still shows up here though.

I really enjoyed that guy who had his own built "real girl" that he made himself. He even created two babies for them to have. Kept talking about "kooky capers". I sat in bed laughing for 40 minutes and choked a bit. I wish I saved his pictures a little now.
>>
>>25343006
None of those were on the scale of things happening right now.
4chan will literally pick a president for USA.
>>
>>25343023
Already in '06, /b/ was big enough to fuck themselves over. Some very hot camwhores posting their faces were scared away, because a few fuckwits called their relatives/friends and so they stopped posting.
>>
>>25343087
I can remember that. The really old camwhores, togi-chan, clover-chan etc.
>>
>>25343023
I remember the YTMND forums, such a mess(in a good way).
>>
>>25343161
I can also remember, pre-4chan, the Yahoo News Message Boards.

Those got shut down due to trolling but they were great back in the day. A sort of proto-/pol/.
>>
>>25343106
Few of them didn't even get nicknames before they stopped posting. I know, I know: after the Fappening happened, all the nudes seem so mundane. But back then, a 9+/10 posting nudes or vids of her masturbating felt like God himself had smiled upon you.

>>
>>25343248
I think the one thing that stands out for me is how much more there are now, or at least were after 2007 than there were before.

It's like after 2007 someone flipped a switch and every girl between the age of 15-30 was posting nudes of herself online in some way, shape or form. Before then it was only a small, professional caste of sluts who did it.

I think maybe we're seeing that wind down a bit now, in spite of /r/gonewild and the like, because women are (finally) starting to realise how dangerous it is.

Cracky! :(

On topic:

Now that Jizzus Christ has started coming.. It made me think.

He was sort of a last relic of the passed times.

When the internet and tech design in general bore the imprint of agony from the lone souls in dark rooms who had nothing else in life.

Now the PC is not the unpredictable whirring box of doom..
The Internet isn't a giant trap..

Everything has become friendly, made in the image of the joyful normalfag.

My youth is basically 15 years of internet browsing. This culture is all I know.

And with the death of Jizzus.. the few last nostalgic relics might follow him soon.

Gamespy died. Suddenly, the quick BF1942 MP demo game you had enjoyed for years is permanently gone..

It feels as if a part of me is dying with the "old internet".

You spam "NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER" and stories of horse fucking in Habbo.. a blink and 10 years have passed.. You are in a dark room looking at a screenlight illuminated ceiling.

No idea what to do.

Come on, a lot of boards had split by then from /b/. I think even /hr/, /w/, and /wg/ were around back then already. Also, there were text boards like /prog/ and some othe rshit.
>>
>>25343651
Another shitpost from me:

This "vanishing" is probably unique to our digital youth.

In the real world.. the physical marks of ones deeds can last for quite long until devoured by the corrosive forces..

But the screenshot of the epic raid.. the lulzy chatlog.. indeed the perfect rocket in that far away delta force land warrior game..

When the power goes off they are erased permanently. As if those times had not existed at all.

All that is left is to look back at the evermore clouding memories of the past and post a nostalgic shout to who few remain of the ancient times, stuck in limbo. So that for a brief moment "we were there and it was good" might faintly sound one more time.
