My father tells me about how workplaces used to look after their workers. Give them rewards, holidays and other benefits to keep them happy and loyal to the company. They had unions that stuck up for workers' rights and weren't afraid to take on the government.
He looks at what businesses do today with zero-hour contracts, minimum wages and overworking people, and he admits it was easier when he was younger.
We do still have a lot of lazy people and it is more possible to live well by fucking the system, but not many people get away with that.
