>made $220,000 driving pic related last year
>can't even say I made it or am successful because at the end of the day all I do is drive a bulldozer

It's not a fucking achievement, it's not because really smart or skilled, it's just a fucking dozer
>>
>>29854735
where do you live? and more details about your job?
>>
>>29854762
I live in Canada, I drive a bulldozer for shell.
>>
>>29854735
>Made $220,000 driving a bulldozer
T-thanks liberal unions.
>>
>>29854735

Good job crushing that pickup truck, anon.

You earned that $220,000.

But seriously, wtf, $220k for driving a fucking bulldozer? You could do it for five years and then retire with a million bucks in the bank.

Why does it pay so much?
>>
>>29854774
i mean who pays 220k for a bulldozer operator?
What do you do? do you jsut smash cars or old stuffs?
>>
>>29854789
In work in a mine. I grade dirt, make ramps for haul trucks, haul out stuck equipment, etc.
>>
>>29854818
that explains, did you have any experiences?
>>
>>29854832
I took an heavy equipment operating course, it cost $5000
>>
>>29854869
any degrees previously? because a course that costs 5k gets you more than some specialist doctors sounds ridiculous
>>
>>29854912
Highschool education only

It's a fucking bulldozer anon
>>
>>29854783
>Why does it pay so much?

It's one of those frontier boom-bust things, where a resource out in the middle of no-where suddenly becomes immensely valuable. Companies need to hire a bunch of people out where the population is low, and end up paying buckets of money.

Happened to Australian mining, North Dakota shale oil drilling, and Candian tar sands. Although the good times will likely come to an end at some point for anon, as the tar sands are becoming uneconomical due to the prolonged crude oil price slump.
>>
>>29854938
Dude, you made mad cash. Save up for early retirement or something.
>>
>>29854735
are you out in the middle of nowhere?

how many hours a week did you work?

how do i get this job? i live in the northeast usa?
>>
ARE YOU EVEN INVESTING THAT 200K NIGGER?
>>
>>29854953
OP here, this. I work on Alberta oilsands for shell. We have a load of fucking oil in the ground, the only problem is the slump oil prices are in. Currently this city has been a boomtown for 50 years and still going, but eventually (probably not in my lifetime) the oil here will run out.
>>
>>29854912
>any degrees previously? because a course that costs 5k gets you more than some specialist doctors sounds ridiculous

Yeah, I'm almost through 4 years college, 4 year medical school, 3 years of residency, six-figures in student loans, to get somewhat less than that.

Of course, I suppose I could could become a doctor out in one of those natural resource boom-towns and made even more. The downside is that the surroundings are quite rough, and there will be only a handful of highly contested women available, among an army of male work-men.

On the plus side, young guys are easy patients. Minimal chit-chat, straight-forward problems, no gyn exams. Either it's fixable or it's not fixable, end of story.
>>
>>29855027
>OP here, this. I work on Alberta oilsands for shell.

My father used to work for Sunoco, who had the misfortune to sell-off their tar-sand assets before the big boom finally happened. Think the new company is called Suncor.

He's still working as an engineer for a different company, does some work with tarsand derived synthetic crudes.
>>
>>29855058
OP here again, in my city there is a high woman population, they come here for work as well because even waitresses get a lot of money and the men pay a lot in tips. A lot of women in the mine too and women are incentivized to work there as well.

Can confirm about the straight forward stuff, it's a blue collar town. Everyone is straight forward, blunt, and say what they mean. It's nice.

How old are you?

Uh, it costs money to live and you have to pay taxes
>>
>>29855146
Yeah, my friend works for suncor. There are only 3 big companies that everyone here wants to work for and that distribute all the contracts and I'll rank them in order from best to worst

Shell (who I work for)
Suncor
Syncrude

Shell is laid back and safe as Fuck. They're the only one of the three that have both iso 9001 and 14001
>>

Why do you care? At least you get paid to actually do something instead of moving papers around.

I work as an accountant and I don't even make 25% of what you make.

I'll trade you my education and white collar work for your salary and blue collar work. Deal?

How much longer do you think it'll last, seeing as how iron ore prices have crashed?
>>
>>29854735
Pro-tip: there are actors, doctors, politicians, etc. that feel the same way about their jobs as you do. Just enjoy your money.
>>
>>29855308
Who cares? I'm 25 unemployed, broke, and will never do anything great, but I'd put aside the fear of dying an unknown for that paycheck and the life that comes with it. That's all I want now is a comfy job that earns me a decent, livable salary. I'd settle for that. You? You'll be a millionaire before you know it for, like you said, just moving dirt around. Enjoy the simple life anon.

Have experience or something that would make you somewhat useful in the field. If not, you can start as a labourer and work your way up. Labourers start at 25/hr

>I'm an american. How hard would it be for me to come out here and do something similar?

At this time? Probably quite difficult, as oil and natural resources are in a down-turn, and the jobs are disappearing. You have to look out for the next wave, and get in early.

Hard to say what that will be. Things will perk up if China's economy starts booming again, likely. I also hear people with climbing experience are currently in demand for windmill maintenance.

During downturns, the safe and growing jobs will be things like healthcare -- thanks to the aging cohort of baby-boomers. In terms of the numbers of bodies needed, growth is mostly in female-dominated jobs (RN, LPN, MA), so you'll need to have the attitude to fit in such an workplace, and the ability to gain the licensing and certifications.
>>
>>29858080
>I'll identify as anything I want, shitlord.

You're certainly free to do that, my friend.
>>
I'm scared to get a job. It's not because I don't think I can do it, I'm just afraid of fucking up badly.
>>
>>29858141

(con't)
Likewise education, as the children of the baby-boomers reach adulthood, and start having children of their own. Another field that requires that you build up credentials and climb the ladder (and also heavily female-dominated by numbers).

Pharmaceutical and Tech is doing ok, and a lot more men on that side of things.
