Went to some anime movie night thing once at my FLGS with a couple guys I met playing Warhammer. This was probably around 2005.
At first glace it looked like the usual ugly nerds you meet at the game store, so I felt at home with that.
However, weebs are somewhat different from the tabletop crowd. And of course there were a couple plain looking and/or fat and broken girls and their orbiters, one or two much older guys with leather trench coats. Essentially it was a different form of autism from the Warhammer thing I was into at the time and I didn't really care for it.
I got wierd vibe from the thing and never went back, but I would ask the guys I gamed with how it was going from time to time.
Turned out there was some insane power stuggle over who was in charge of it and the drama eventually got the whole thing banned from every FLGS in town.
My hs had a decent anime club
It wasn't cringe what so ever and it had a great method of intro ducig different types of animes each club meeting
Everyone was pretty chill and nice to each other...

The anime club at my high school was conjoined with the gaming and comics club. You'd get western art fans and eastern art fans in the same room and they'd get into their cliques. The gaming club just unregistered and fucked off until the next year and failed to find a teacher to make the gaming club, so I was dumb enough to stay in that club. I just sat by myself while every other weeb was circlejerking. There were around five normies in there, and three of them were girls who were in there to "date boys", aka "embarrass them".
It was shit. Not even a discussion of anime in there, just talking to friends was all it is. And I would know, and fuck, I was there for the gaming club

When I was in 11th grade a bunch of freshmen weeaboos started an anime club. I showed up to the first meeting and talked trash about their favorite anime (mostly plebshit like Naruto, Attack on Titan, and Hetalia). One of my friends was actually banned for making constructive criticism of someone's drawings.
I ran a university anime club for two years and many people there had better taste than most people on here.
I genuinely think it was an exceptional place and I fear it may not last long now I have graduated.

This is pretty consistent with my experience. Some fat Indian drama queen ran mine, and she and the other officers, who all happened to be roommates, did nothing but gossip about other members. I quit about halfway through my freshman year after it became my turn to be the object of their gossip and studied overseas for a year. I never saw any of them again, thank god.
The composition was what you'd expect. You had the officers, all either fat or 2/10 women, that one pseudo-intellectual guy super liberal guy who beta-orbited every girl in the club at one point, the small group of guys who were actually cool to talk to, and then the one 7/10 almost normie girl who just liked anime and didn't want to be part of the clique.

I started a normie anime club in college. I started with convincing my Chad roommates to smoke weed and watch Death Note, they started inviting other Chads and Stacys on a weekly basis, the anime got better albeit still entry level and the drugs got harder and I got to fuck some of Chad's leftovers. At my high school we had a club called "Gear club" it was basically just a nerd club. There was anime video games board games and comic books. There were a few extremely annoying weaboos but wasn't too bad
It was pretty fun at first, although I mainly just played yugioh, mofia, and occasionally chess (I was probably the best chess player there). After awhile I don't know what happened but it stopped being that fun. I eventually got banned from the club for something but I didn't really care since it wasn't that fun anymore

Tried to join 2 times once in junior high and once in highschool and both clubs rejected me because my taste was according to them was sub par and I was to casual to be a part of them. Even the Japanese exchange students didn't want to join and that right there tells you something. I decided to just ruin the meetings weekly with stink bombs and better improvised sabotages to the av equipment, eventually they switched places to meet and brought in there own computers and an old piece of shit projector. I eventually gave up because the resource officer was onto my pranks and mischief. I retired after 10 successful meetings were sabotaged. I then spent my time doodling dicks on the club invite papers. Got quite good at it but then I got caught and suspended for a couple of days.
