both are shit generations. both are full of unearned self importance and both had their major contributions to the decline of decent culture and civilization. I wish the Greatest Generation could come back and whip us all into shape.

The two generations before you set you up to win. All you had to do was try however now that we lived in a globalised economy where we have to compete with 100x Pajeet and Chang for entey level jobs in any industry but when you wanted a job the protectionist govt of the time. The state of India, China and Japan from the 40's-90's meant all you had to do was compete with billy the inbred down the road for a well-paid career for the rest of your life.

Im all for free trade worldwide but the competition is just horrendous and times have changed massively since back in the day.

Sorry Mum & Dad that to feel the same sense of worth as you we need to rail a fat line of meth.

>ITT: OP triggers me

If you look at the economy over the course of the past sixty or seventy years from a macro-scale standpoint, you see that these "Baby Boomers" and our parents, which I guess we could call the Video Music era as that is something they are called (for whatever stupid fucking reason you'd want to be labeled that) have been solely responsible for inflating the economy and the housing bubble up until the "millennials" even had a chance. Baby Boomers ruined the future for millennials.

There's also something like triple the population of people in the U.S. now from when the Baby Boomers were around, and that, of course, makes it much harder to get a job. We are starting to make up jobs. There is now such a job as "Professional Instagrammer" for companies.

Now, to get a job, you must have more requirements and be able to beat out 2,000,000 other specialists and the entirety of India, or however many people it may be you are fighting against.

You can't even join the military anymore. There is a one year wait list for the U.S. Navy and the Air Force, and now there are actual PSYCH TESTS to be in the combative forces.

Basically, the Baby Boomers have no reason to be proud, being born with silver spoon in hand.

the entire boomer generation is an anomaly caused by the complete destruction of almost every super power's industrial base. there's a reason america is getting worse and worse now, because those super powers that were wiped out in ww2 have been back in the game for 30-40 years now and have caught up with us. we got a 30 year head start but they fucked it all up because we shipped all the jobs that made america america to fucking china and third world shit holes. pretty much all we do now is financial fuckery and military equipment.

>So we're going to pretend slave labor never happened

no we aren't, but penal labor in the soviet union was also not extensive enough to be the sole cause of its rapid industrialization.

do not pretend that state repression is a peculiar feature of communism - the major arms of state repression in russia were all inherited from the tsarist autocracy that they had overthrown. the KGB for example was based on the tsarist okhrana that had preceded it.

penal labor was used by most imperial powers at that time. it is still used in the united states today and is allowed by the the 13th amendment of the constitution.

Look where you are. People get neetbux so they don't need a job. This hurts the economy and makes jobs harder to get. Hey Punks

My name is John, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are fat, lazy, no-lifes who spend every second of their day not getting jobs. You are everything band in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten a job? I mean, I guess it's fun being a leech on society because of your own laziness, but you all take it to a whole new level. This is even worse than jerking off to pictures on the face books.

Don't be a stranger. Just go up to the manager and shake his hand and he'll be sure to give you a job. That's what I did, and I had a comfortable job for over 30 years until I retired last May. What job do you have, other than "complaining about successful Boomers like me on the Internet"? Also, don't be jealous of my banging hot wife (She just blew me; Shit was SO cash). is it untrue that penal labor did not account for the majority of laborers who contributed to russia's rapid industrialization in the first half of the 20th century?

is it not true that penal labor is permitted under the 13th amendment to the US constitutions?

Boomers didn't do anything about the civil rights movement, trade liberalization (NAFTA), or mass immigration, they just stood around as countries like Japan (and now Korea and China) took over key industries like electronics and automotive while having very favorable access to American markets and being protected by the US military (not China), I don't think they gave too much of a shit when the tech bubble and then the housing bubble blew up in the 2000s

Basically, they did nothing as opportunities for average, unexceptional people eroded. Any shithead could get a union job after high school in the 70s and 80s and do alright. Not everyone has the brains to be an engineer or a programmer, and even those are being squeezed in the middle by H-1Bs from India and China. My own company has two dozen programmers in Russia and Ukraine who we pay $12/hour and I interact with on a daily basis, there are bugs and misunderstandings, but the kind of work we do is simply not possible with 5-6 people, which is all we'd be able to afford if we could only hire in the West.

So yeah, I have no fucking sympathy. Through apathy and inaction, they brought this upon themselves. Their kids are feeling it, and they'll definitely be feeling it in old age when their kids can't support them. I still respect and care for my parents because we are immigrants who came here in 2000 and they had no say in Western politics (and still don't vote), but I have no feelings for the boomer generation of this country - just gotta get mine before you get yours.
>>
>>29675193
> This hurts the economy and makes jobs harder to get
You can argue the first part, but NEETBux does not make jobs harder to get. If anything it makes it easier, as there are less people in the workforce looking for a job.
>Then, when most people get them they do dumb shit like waste money on junk food, and partying
There is literally nothing wrong with this, and in fact helps the economy. It helps keep the cash flowing and increases capital.

>Slave labor happened BUT...
>Hey look the US has slavery too!
Ignoring the fact that you're wrong on the last part, yes. Yes you are whitewashing and pointing fingers. You try justifying Stalin being a tyrant by saying that other people have done similar things too, and with the pic you try downplaying slave labor. By the way the very fact you refer the slave labor as "penal labor" is white washing. It wasn't so much labor as "you don't do this at least begrudgingly and it's the salt mines for you." Hell at it's worst the fucking government had to end up actually PAYING PEOPLE to work because they didn't do diddly squat. It's almost as if when you redistribute wealth and try to give everyone equal wages you remove any motivation to work. Hmmmm.

>muh indivigilisms
the pressures that the society places on individuals is much more heavily to blame for large-scale trends in behavior than individual choice. Your philosophy literally depends entirely on tabula rasa being a thing, and tabula rasa is not a fucking thing. People are influenced by their culture, and we are the third generation to be raised in a culture of fashionable debt accumulation and rampant materialism. Capitalism is to blame for debt, not individual choice. It is only the rare and special individual who can recognize the ramifications of their decisions and resist being pulled by the tides of the times. no I'm doing fine and will continue to do fine because I'm actually interested in finance and while stuff can happen that will fuck your shit up senpai, there's usually a good indicator something is about to fuck your shit up before it happens

i.e. right now my current threat to job security is not automation or china. it's actually NAFTA and Mexico. If my americuck counterparts keep taking their work for granted we're going to get cucked by harder working mexicans that work for less.

A real big indicator of when my job is fucked is when the company decides to move production of a key product down to Mexico. However, they will move the lower margin products first before they get to the one thing that will just absolutely wreck everyones shit

for now its ok

Managers don't really have the authority to hire someone on the spot. It would be against corporate policy, or something.

Now you can just walk into an agency and sign on right away. Then, maybe, they'll give you a job if they have a desperate client who needs lots of quick, cheap staff.

...and those major arms shot more people in a week than the Ohkana had killed in a hundred years.

Your "ultrad rapid industrialization proves many good time success in war against nayzis" only looks impressive because

1. It was achieved by starving millions to death by selling off their grain before they got to eat it

2. The Nayzis were just INCREDIBLY fucking stupid about gearing up for war production. Soviyeet RUssSHA produced thousands of cheap, weak-ass tanks crewed by under educated youths and still got spanked for the majority of the war...

also: "Muh SPACE PROGRAM!" - Largely the result of technological espionage and the deportation of german rocket egineers

In short: Fuck off with your "obv i have proffed that communism can be economically successfulls". Marginally more than fedualaism perhaps.

All of those things cost more than ever now, even excluding all the newfangled taxes and regulations.

You cannot get a job that can even pay rent without at least a certificate from a tech school because wages haven't adjusted for the cost of living (yes, things objectively cost more now.)

Factory jobs mostly hire immigrants, and are more mechanized so less and less human workers are needed every year. Why would they hire you when they already have enough people, people who have worked there for years and are doing jobs they could probably do into their 70s?
>>29681617
Those degrees are fine as long as you are actually good at the field.

Most people going into a field like psychology are teenage girls that think they 'understand people' because they've 'had a hard life.' While in actuality they have no clue what the field entails.

>Most people going into a field like psychology are teenage girls that think they 'understand people' because they've 'had a hard life.' While in actuality they have no clue what the field entails.

Those are the ones who go for the Bachelor of arts in psychology. Meaning humanities instead of science. Meaning maybe then can get a job as a highschool counselor.

There's a problem with jobs regarding "Decent wages" too. It is fairly commonplace to raise minimum wage without adjusting upper workers' pay.
So my dad who works at a dry dock as the guy who welds shit and all that jazz gets paid about $30. Minimum wage rises a smidge to barely attempt to adjust to inflation. Meanwhile he doesn't get a raise, like a lot of people in these middle-class worker positions. So effectively he is making the same amount of money while everyone else got a raise and the prices inflated. He's noticed it, he used to be able to buy a lot more for what he got even when he worked for less.

The problem is that whenever minimum wage rises, the cost of living rises in tandem and vice versa. They reflect off of each other while paying no heed to everyone else involved. Minimum wage hasn't increased in a ratio, it has increased flatly. The cost of living has increased at a higher rate. The wage of the "middle class, blue collar, etc." workforce has barely even budged, if at all.
>>
>>29684879
To be fair, there isn't much incentive to increase wages when they're already being screwed by pointless regulations and taxes, instead of being rewarded for decreasing pollution and waste, increasing safety standards, etc.

The reward would be as simple as a tax break, but as far as I know no such thing exists as an actual reward for their spending, instead taxes are forced on and to escape them and possible legal action, government demands must be met.
>>
>>29684376
Sounds like a case of whiny bitch syndrome.

On no less than 3 occassions I've walked into a place and been hired on the spot. No interview, just introductions and asking for the job.

I started at a place last week all of 3 hours after walking in for the first time, making 50 cents per hour more than my coworkers, only the manager makes more than me and it's a quarter difference.

Asked for a week off two days ago and got it, manager just called and asked me to come in in the morning for the same pay he makes, said sure.

Comfy work, unlimited smoke breaks, music all day, drawing and eating snacks, living the dream.

Get your ass some employment.

You only have to be a little better than the next guy to be valuable to your employer. Doesn't even take extra work, I'm lazy as fuck, takes social finesse.

Get good.

>>29684981
There's more financial punishments for some cases sure, but the issue lies in that companies are able to write off most of them as an additional cost.
The punishments in place do not curb their behavior, since they are so negligible.

They write them off because they're only financially punished for trying to do the 'right thing' instead of being rewarded. They exist to make money, and when their personal views interfere with that they have to drop it or risk going bankrupt.

There are lots of small business owners that would love to pay their employees $40 an hour, but if they tried they'd probably go into debt because they're being financially drained elsewhere.

And the ones that don't aren't going to, period, so punishing them instead of rewarding them is pointless.

If they're being rewarded, they get justify increasing wages in order to write some profit off as an expense, while functionally putting money back into the company.
>>
>>29671838
Well I am giving it my all, I'm 22,

>>
>>29685207
It doesn't quite matter if it's punishment or reward because they're focused on profits. What does matter is that the reward/punishment makes a difference.

The problem is that the punishments in place are negligible. They would look at the rewards the same because if the reward was too negligible for the cost then they would defer to the more profitable decision. They don't care about the revenue/cost (reward/punishment), those are just part of the problem. They care about the end result.

It's why they avoid lawsuits like the plague, those costs outweigh the revenue which makes it unprofitable.

Well damn.
I have the advantage of living in a small town and having (as fucking weird as this is) a reputation for being good at what I do. I'm a depressingly in-demand cashier and I've been offered jobs just walking into places.

Didn't even know there was such a thing as a "sought after register jockey" but I essentially have a guaranteed fallback any time I get tired of a place.

I just walk into the place I want to work, introduce myself, tell them I start at no less than 8.50 and want the first management position available.

Never fails. Just buddy up to somebody, anybody, at a place you want to work. Make some smalltalk, ask if they're hiring, usually an employee's word is enough to get in the door.

I have been living alone for two years
During those two years I had a single pan to cook
I treated the pan like shit, barely taking care to clean it before using it again
It got to the point that a steel pan looked like iron
I couldn't touch it because it was super sticky all the time
So I grabbed a metal sponge and detergent and I got in the shower
And after scrubbing for two hours I managed to make it usable again
It's not perfect but I couldn't go on cleaning without removing all the paint when removing oxides and burnt grease
I'm confident I turned trash into something I can use for two more years
Call me fucking lazy again

I keep dishes militantly clean now. I never want to see a bleached chunk of questionable food on my "clean" plates or glasses ever again.
