The whole trans issue has blown up massively in the last few years because of liberal/feminist/lgbt movements. The media has extremely disproportionate coverage of trans people in trans issues in relation to how many trans people that actually exist.

Probably around 4 years ago. I guess my only advice would be to ensure you are transitioning for the right reason. You aren't transitioning just because tfw no gf, or because you lack attention, but because you feel that you have proper inclination that you were born in the wrong gender, and that you can't live as your current gender.
Learn a decent skill that isn't going away soon that you can do from home (programming, even Forex) to ensure independence for the first few months/years where you may be discriminated against in the job market.
