the thing that got me into ambient music is an anime called Texhnolyze. I don't know if you know it but even if you don't like anime you should watch it. It's a nihilistic show about mankind end. The art is inspired from Edward Hopper paintings and there are a lot of ambient songs in the OST.
It's really dark but also comfy.
