is there anyone on here who has done it? How did you get through bootcamp? I can't even leave my house..

are you considering it?
>>
I can only speak for the air force(which is honestly the only branch you should consider unless maybe you're dying to join the Navy and see the world) but basic training is nothing. It's stressful and at times feels miserable but you look back later and realize how easy it was. Yes you get yelled at but you get used to that. All you need to do is do what you're told for 7 weeks and you'll make it. You have no real responsibility unless you're stupid and volunteer for a leader position, and the instructors can't lay a finger on you without your permission.

thank you friend
i was thinking Navy because I do wanna see the world :b

Do I need to be fit? I'm not fat, but I haven't ran in ages... I can do like 40 pushups/situps
>>
I was a Marine for four years. It was a fucking nightmare being surrounded by such idiots and assholes everyday. I went on a MEU so lived on a ship for 8 months and the Navy guys were much more laid back.
>>
Staff sergeant in the chair force here. None of it is particularly physically demanding, only mentally exhausting once you realize that if your instructor wants to fuck your day, he's going to regardless of mistakes or lack thereof.

As for outside of it, a lot of times you can just do your job and then go home to your dorm, as long as you aren't a complete retard. There was a definite robot at my last base that got booted for failure to adapt.

Don't be a cop or work on planes if you don't want to be miserable. I'm in logistics and honestly just make sure transportation for the base isn't fucked and tell people what to do. Ezpz.
>>
>>28919572
Just run and do some pushups and situps before you go to BMT and you'll be fine. You exercise 6 days a week there so you'll be in pretty decent shape by the end of it but that also means if you go into it not having exercised in months or years you'll be miserable every PT session for the first couple weeks.
>>
I've enlisted in the Marines as part of my efforts to improve my life and become normal. I leave for boot in the winter. It's done alot for me so far just being enlisted.

Enjoy hating your life and being miserable while your social anxiety and incompetency prevents you from bonding over how shitty life is with your peers.

Robot in the army reporting in...
I was in horrible shape when i went to basic training (5'10 115 lbs). I couldnt even do 5 push ups. They pt you everyday, so physical fitness shoudnt be a worry. Overall I reccommend it. I made some great friends as well.

Very good to hear. Is it hard to make friends? I have been a shy robot and am absolutely frightened of social interactions. ( I wanted to join so I can change that)

>>28919707
Sounds good.
>>
>>28919852
You get chaptered out for not being able to do your job properly and not following the regulations. It means you are such a fucking failure that even the military couldn't make something of you. I have seen it only one time in the Army. Honestly, if it happens to you then you need to seriously consider putting a bullet in your head.
>>
>>28919837
It is at least at first when you don't know what the fuck is going on. And it depends on your MTI, some of them barely even yelled while mine was basically Terry Crews in those old spice commercials
>>
>>28919852

Failure to adapt to military lifestyle. Difficulty following orders. Bad at his job. Bad at PT. sometimes you'll get people that slip through, other times leadership says fuck it and gets separation paperwork started for them when they show they just can't quite cut it.

>>28919864

It depends on your career field honestly. But no, it's not, since you'll be damn near forced to spend a good amount of your time with them.
>>
How bad do they yell at you?

If you follow orders, will they leave you alone?
>>
>>28920059
They find yelling offensive in the Air Force. I'm not even making this up.
>>
>>28919919

>it's another case of "my MTI was worse because he screamed so much"

Literally kek
>>
>>28920083
Good troleing, but can I get a real reply?
>>
>>28920059

It isn't even yelling. It's just some grumpy dude who seriously sat in a room with other grumpy dudes in order to come up with the most ridiculous "insults" to yell at you so they can have a distraction from their miserable lives.
>>
>>28920059
>If you follow orders, will they leave you alone?

I mean maybe if you do everything perfectly your first try(marching movements, folding clothes, all sorts of little speech protocols etc.) but you're not going to do everything perfect your first try and even if you do they'll just yell at you for not helping your wingmen do it as well as you do

tl;dr the yelling is inevitable and you get used to it
>>
>>28920113
I went in after I graduated in 2011, faggot.
>>
I've seen military anons on /pol/ and /k/ saying that the military isn't how it used to be / isn't how it looks in movies because there's no camaraderie and it's really impersonal. Is there any truth in that?
t b h the main reason I'm considering joining is that it seems like you automatically get friends
>>
>>28920113

Over the entire period, there were only 2 points that I can poignantly remember having an oh fuck moment because they were yelling. First was on the first night there, and the other was because I forgot to knock on the CQ's door when I turned in the little PT test watch trackers. Yelling isn't scary or stressful, it just becomes an inconvenience after a couple days.

Or be a Mormon. They're really inclusive to fellow Mormons. They're weird as shit though.
>>
You guys realize you have to be hardworking right? Some people might say lazy people can work in the Government but in the Navy especially its like working 16 hour days in bootcamp and probably in the Fleet.
>>
>>28920221

It's just social media making the amount of bitching more readily apparent. Combine that with absolute garbage programs like SAPR or SHARP, leadership hemorrhaging knowledgeable people and then desperately trying to keep people in while bringing in a bunch of new guys who will hardly be able to mentor them. For instance, I'm in an Air Force career field that regularly saw combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, they completely stopped that right after I came in. Now, since the people who have extensive experience with that have been separated for whatever reasons, I'm expected to be able to mentor people using experience I've never had and train them for shit I never experienced and just hope for the best.

It used to be that just the upper leadership was a political game, but they're constantly making it so even at the lowest levels, it's not about what you do, but how much you can get key people to like you.
>>
>>28920345
>>28920362

If you're a full blown robot, do yourself a favor and just suck up all the neetbux you can. The military isn't stressful per say, but it's inconveniencing in a way that your typical robot wouldn't be able to handle.

>>
>>28920402
Lazy as fuck soldier here. You don't have to be hardworking when you're literally forced to do whatever it is you're doing.

If you can't make it through bootcamp you're the biggest pussy in the world. It's not hard at hell and after 3 days you get used to a little yelling, mostly because you hear it all the time and most of it isn't directly at you, so the few times when it is directed at you, it's not a big surprise.

I went to Navy bootcamp in February. It was actually kind of cozy desu, you get really comfy sweats to wear in P-Days. If only it wasn't so serious it would be like a big sleepover.

Here I am now, 2 months after graduating I was honorably discharged because of the "convenience of the government" aka they didn't need me.

I can tell you some finer details though.

When you sleep, their are red lights, it kind of feels like some alarm is going off.

The type of work you do is all really repetitive folding, ways of wearing things, and learning how to identify ships/ how to tie knots/ sexual assault. Exercise is almost every day for like an hour and a half.

Wake up at 6 every morning, go to bed at 10 every night.

Every sunday is holiday routine, just sit around doing nothing for 6 hours, i hid behind my rack drawing stuff on my notepad.

I got yelled at only once btw, when I forgot to shave during a watch that happened to take place at reveille (sounds like circus music which you wake up to) and I had to do some exercise for petty officer, and he was all like "do you want to be in my navy, can i trust you to protect your shipmates in the fleet" I was just like yea sure.
>>

>>28920688

I've been in the army for 3 years (a duty in my country).
I was placed in a pretty intense environment (not fighting tho) where you are constantly in contact with people and you must teach yourself how to blend.
Well, i won't say it completely cured my robotism, but it helped immensely.

It could go two ways. You don't say anything and nobody cares. Or, you don't say anything, someone notices, confronts you about it, and you're forced to make something up. Self harm scars are seen as a suicidal tendency and will definitely fuck with enlisting, and it will be hard to explain away if they're obviously from self harm.

not trolling. they just ask you typical bs questions about your childhood and life and if you ever have suicidal thoughts. they also ask you drug use history and one of the most important things to them is how well you get a long with other people and if you are good at making connections with others.

I told the truth in my interview mainly because i was trying to throw the whole thing, didnt actually want to go.

It would be very easy to bullshit your way through the interview though, if you really did want to go to military.

Hi, fem here
If they aren't raised, you can get color correct by figuring out what base you need (pink, green, yellow, red) and apply that. Over that rub some concealer and foundation that matches your skin tone. There's plenty of videos that show how to do this. It mostly hides the discoloration and makes it even with your skin.
This technique is also ideal for freckles and acne and under eye circles.

Officer in the British Army here.

My life is awesome. I'm coming out of my shell and I socialise a bit now. Sandhurst (phase 1 officer training establishment here in the UK) was hard, and I struggled socially. But it was better than working a nowhere job as a mindless drone in the City and being treated like dirt.

Now, people salute me when I walk around camp. I get paid well. I have a fun job and I live like I'm at university still - in halls with a bunch of mates, with our own bar. When I want to I can just shut myself in my room and browse 4chan and play games, and when I want to I can go sit on the patio and socialise. The Army has really brought me out of my shell and made me more confident. Admittedly there are a few cunts I work with, but I avoid them as much as I can.

We go on exercise now and then, which is fun. My social reclusiveness works in my favour as an officer - it reinforces my image as a quietly professional and calculating leader. The soldiers defer to me with ease and trust my judgement 100%.

I've also managed to become one of the physically fittest (at university I was a lazy piece of shit) somehow, and I'm going on the commando course in a couple of months.

Yes, you have to be around people when you don't want to be sometimes. But just keep your mouth shut, don't say or ask anything stupid (as much as they say there's no such thing as a stupid question, there really is, and you can destroy your reputation by asking one), and just get on with your job and people will respect you and view you as the intimidatingly quiet guy who competently gets the job done.
>>
>>28924380
Did you so some meme degree that had no real job prospects so you said "fuck it" and joined the army?

Because that is my situation right now, about to graduate at the end of the year with a meme degree, and the police force/army are looking like a real promising choice.
>>
>>28924380
That sounds pretty cool. It's nice to see at least one person in this miserable shithole has a decent life. Good for you.
>>
>>28924419
I studied politics, had a job in the City that was full of politics/history/english graduates.

I had always wanted to join the Army and delayed it because I thought my asthma would prevent me. But eventually I got fed up and decided that I might as well risk it and see what they said.

And they said nothing, so here I am, about to become a fucking commando officer.

Life is fucking awesome. Except for this one super sarcastic cunt that is on my course, but I can handle him. If it was all of them this would be hell but luckily almost everyone is really nice. This is what you realise about the Army - we're just a bunch of ordinary people, there's nothing special about us.
>>
>>28924380
btw that date in the picture should read 2015, camera is a bit shit
>>
>>28924419
Oh I will also add, becoming an officer is probably one of the best things anyone can do. People automatically respect you, and it will increase your career opportunities a thousand fold in the future. Far better than some office drone job will, when you'll just be another of the ten million recent grads or young professionals fighting and clawing their way desperately up the career ladder. This really sets you apart and gives you an excellent skillset for free (and in fact pays you to learn it).
>>
>>28924419

Not really. In the UK, I'd say about 80% of officers have degrees. Most of my cohort at Sandhurst were graduates. Sure it may help you in later life, but you don't *have* to have one. It does help you have a bit more life experience though - if AOSB (officer selection) think you're immature they'll tell you to go away and come back in a few years when you've got some life experience.

University is good at socialising you, teaching you about the world, and training you to form reasoned arguments and think critically (though those last two points could easily be refuted if we look at many modern western universities and their "safe spaces").

I highly recommend getting a degree before going. But if you're desperate it's not essential.

Ex-navy here. This guy is right. You probably want to go air force. Navy's alright too, really depends on your job.
