The pain of balding when you're young is something that people with the luxury of having hair will never understand.
Its kind of like the difference between looking at gorillas through a glass window in a zoo and being right up next to them where they can crush your head if they wanted to. People will never understand the truly visceral horror of it unless they experience it for themselves. Until then, they'll just say dumb bullshit like "shave it off bro."
It is the worst possible thing ever. I'd honestly rather have lost a limb than my hair.

By 21 my hair was thin to the point where you could see through to the scalp on the top. It looked horrible, and it started looking bad no matter what haircut I got, so I just invested in a pair of clippers and started shaving it all off.
That was three years ago. From a practical perspective, it's not bad. I haven't had to waste time or money on hair cuts, but pretty much everyone I talk to told me I looked much better with hair.
I always had a very thick head of hair until my late teens, then things started to go sour. It sucks, but that's how genetics are.

Weird cause my balding doesn't really match any of these patterns. I guess pattern 4 is the closest but really it spreads out from the middle/top of my crown and then spread outward to my forehead in a triangle - but somehow leaves a tiny patch of hair like pattern 5 unaffected. I can use that to somewhat do a comb-back and mask my balding but don't really give a shit to try and hide it.

I'm 18 and didn't start going bald yet. My father is on his 50s with a good amount of hair, although you can notice he started losing some of it on the back of his head.
What worries me is my mother's side. One of my uncles is bald and my grandfather was bald, although he was very old... I don't know if he started balding at an older age... I pray everyday to keep my hair at least until my late thirties.
I would never go into fina or oral minox. It isn't worth it. If it starts happening early I will try to keep up with some shampoo and wait until I can get a hair transplant.

I began noticing it getting severely worse about 2 or so months ago. I noticed it a *little* bit about a year ago for the first time but didn't think too much of it and it didn't change up until maybe March or so of this year when I began noticing my temples felt different and empty...also, when I shower there's always an absurd amount of hair that comes out.
I've always dreaded this possibility because there is simply no way I could pull off a shaved head. It's one of the things I'm most self-conscious about, and I'm extremely self-conscious in general. I got teased throughout school and even by my one long-term girlfriend (forever ago) because the shape of my head/skull is all fucked up. I have a huge head in general (hats never fit me) and it's "like an egg" in the back (ex-gf's words - pic related is the best sketch I can do on a shitty touchpad. There's a silhouette portrait of me that some street artist did when I was like 7 that's hanging on the wall in this house and I hate looking at it because it's the most unnatural shape ever. So I've always had long hair so it's less noticeable.
In addition, I have a big ugly scar right front and center on my scalp where my (now receding) hairline starts from when I tripped and slammed my head into a door and had to get stitches when I was a kid. Long hair hides it, short hair/no hair does not.
And then there's the fact that I have literally always had long bangs. I feel 10000x more comfortable with something to "hide" behind. I feel naked, exposed and generally miserable when they're cut short. But now parting my bangs to the side further exposes my receding hairline and if this continues my bangs will be the first to go. I've also been told I look much better with long hair and short hair does not suit me at all, and I definitely agree. For all these reasons and more, balding is a fucking nightmare.

I told the dermatologist that I noticed this as a trend, like a new phenomenon and I thought it might be related to lifestyle, hormones, etc
(most males in my family started receding at like 50, I started at 15), I thought low testosterone from lifestyle or hormones or whatever might mean elevated DHT levels at a young age, so people with follicles sensitive to DHT will go bald very early as opposed to in their 40s or so.

That happens to a lot of guys, apparently it's called a "maturing hairline" and it happens to a lot of white dudes in their 20s. Basically it goes up and into a triangle-ish shape, then stays there for about a decade before balding continues as normal.

Balding is one of the worst thing that can happen to your appearance. I've been taking fin for a few months and already my hair is thicker, I've had a few ball aches but that is it. The overwhelming majority of people have success on it you just don't hear them because they have moved on with their lives and its done with for them. Don't scare people away from fin, I would give up my left nut for a full head of hair again but I can't so fin is the next best thing.

I have pretty long hair, it's been growing for over a year and the temples are slightly receded, you can't see my scalp anywhere aside from where I part it and the part hasn't grown but the overall volume of my hair seems like it has diminished since the last time I grew it out, in my teens. I'm 21 now and while I think a shaved head would suit me(am slav) I'm pretty attached to my hair at this point and still want to grow it out. I'm about the same as you, shit sucks ass.. And to top it off I have a weird shaped head so don't wanna shave it. The way my hair is curly happens to help me manage not looking so bald like you, I just style the hair I have left so it lays down more flat covering part of my forehead, its obvious I'm balding but at least its not a combover, the hair is naturally curly so it lays down in a way that looks somewhat normal.
f I had straight hair theres no way I could do it. I'm about to just shave it, have actually shaved my head several times, always to let it grow back over about 8 months, while periodically trimming the sides the first couple months since my hair doesn't grow in as fast on top. But this time I don't think I'm gonna be able to pull it off, I'm just gonna have get it cut real short, not completely buzzed but like less than 1 inch of hair on top, and the sides buzzed down to pretty much stubble. It looks shitty but I guess its better than the long, nappy hair I got going on now.
