Don't see the issue. He provides a service (videogame streaming "entertainment", I presume) and he receives funding.
>>
>>28888024
If it makes you feel better his popularity will die in less than 10 years. How is he going to afford his lifestyle when videogame streaming is no longer paying his bills? He will end up bankrupt and probably kill himself. No one wants to watch a middle aged guy steam himself playing videogames.
>>
Who is that? I don't watch streams.

what do you think the mortgage is on that house? How much do you think those cars cost? If he keeps up this level of spending he'll never be able to sustain it.

Even if I became a billionaire overnight I wouldn't get a house like that. Rent a nice place in Manhattan. That way there's no lease over your head, you're still in a great place but you're not in a cavernous mansion that creaks at night. Of course that's just my own opinion.

This. Though 12 years old might be a little too high for some of them. Try 9. Anyway there are worse people with lots of money than some guy who spends 12 hours per day playing videos games.

I actually like (some) games and would never want to do what these people do. Can you imagine basically being forced to do what you originally thought was a fun hobby all day just to amuse 9 year olds who don't block adverts on YouTube and donate on Twitch? As soon as the next wacky lol random steamer comes along you lose all your revenue.

Let them enjoy working hard for what it gets them, OP. It isn't easy to keep a bunch of kids amused every single day.

Personally I'm under the impression that black ops 3 will be the last great call of duty (I know a lot of people hated it but I personally loved it)

I think Activision are heading in a direction that will ultimately kill the franchise with the "pay for a chance to win" shit.

Not to mention, the trailer for the next CoD is the 2nd most disliked video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeF3UTkCoxY&index=2&list=PLirAqAtl_h2o1ism1dr5SbvB8Mf7Ve6Aa

You're missing the big bucks, m8. 1 book a month pays as much as a middle class job if you do it right. In some cases, you can even break six-figures. Combine that with being able to live virtually anywhere and you can live like a king in a nowhere or 2nd/3rd world country.

The more you put out, the larger your following will be. Each book launch is generally more successful than the last. It's a fun business.

I don't understand why a single person would want to live in a big house like that in the suburbs. Even if I was rich I would probably stay in a relatively modest apartment, and spend my money on hobbies or investments. Buying a house like that when you don't have a family seems backwards to me

Allow me to interject for a moment.

This guy can get away with it PRECISELY because he's already rich to being with AND good-looking. So, unlike most youtuber, he could start right away with top notch materials for example.

If you really believe that some ugly nerd living in his mom's basement can start to make youtube videos too, even more now that the market is saturated, then you're highly delusional.

People used to slave away in factories or at farms and die from overworking themselves and then there were these little faggots who would just write down their philosophies and create ideologies around their thoughts theories on the ways of living etc and then became famous and earned millions on it. They would maybe release dozen books during their entire lifetime and would die old after years of partying.

I was a journalism major for two years dude, you don't know what you're talking about. There just simply aren't the jobs there used to be. I watched journalism student after journalism student graduate with stellar GPAs and interning experience with no place to work. That's because 50 years ago pretty much every city had multiple newspapers with considerable subscription bases. Now you;re lucky if you have one functioning paper in your town and the advertising space for said paper is far lower than it used to be. Online journalism is still nowhere near as profitable since the market is saturated and as such papers hire writers and editors at far lower rates. To say the journalistic job market is "pretty much the same" is ridiculous. Did you just simply not pay attention to the last decade in American journalism?

My best friend in college had a 4.0, he interned at the Chicago Tribune and was the editor of our campus paper and the only paper willing to hire him after graduation was in Laramie, Wyoming for less than $30,000/year. He ended up just going to law school.

Are you seriously comparing writers who wrote theories, ideologies, philosophies and thoughts... to a fucking 15 year old making money by playing videogames, and saying they're the same?
Writers actually make things that are useful and have good potential. Ideas that can be built upon and analyzed for the greater good of the future and humankind.

>If you truly know how it works then you would be a popular author by now, instead you think its all fucked up and not possible to do it because the old road is blocked.
Again, you have no idea what you're talking about. You insinuated that the road to literary success is gaining a following through self-publishing and then getting picked up by a traditional publisher. That will almost certainly not work and it's absolutely not a viable plan. So much of your success in the industry is based on luck and factors out of your control and so knowing how to succeed is in no way a guarantee or indicator of success. Stop lecturing people when you literally don't know what you're talking about.

The information age revolution already happened.
It's like the industrial revolution, at first you get a huge spike of new innovations as the new discoveries are implemented, but after the initial spike, all you have left are niches.
It's the natural course of things, nothing to be surprised about
>>
>>28888514
there is a probably less possibility of getting rich by streaming then by playing lottery
>>
>>28890402
For an information revolution the actual creation of new information is so lacking. We have the internet, probably one of the most important inventions in mankind's history, and we're using it to shitpost and watch idiots on Youtube.

You'd think with an explosion of tools and the ways to share them creativity would flourish, instead it's gone the other way.

Stop being autistic, of course you have to have luck and the only reason why I didn't mention it earlier is because that is how the whole world works now.

Sorry to break it to you guys but have you ever considered that your stories and prose just aren't good? I read fifty shades of grey and it had probably the worst writing, as if the woman didn't even take English in high school, yet she's a millionaire with 1 movie out and another movie in the works.

Before you start releasing your personal works you need to write something that gets attention. Take up a new project. Fanfictions romantic stories and erotica have a hidden audience. Also if you think you are talented enough fantasy and sci-fi have dedicated audiences.

If you're looking to write what you want know that not a days if it isn't amazing piece of literature you won't get credit. It's the same for traditional and digital artists. There are many great writers, but realistically nobody is looking for great, they look for legendary.

Try being more open to other ideas. Study what people are into and make your story around that. Hunger games, twilight, divergent all that shit gets famous. Go their direction.

How do these people get money from Twitch so easy. I'm a 28 year old trying to break into the Twitch scene, hoping someday to earn extra income along with my underpaying job. So far I have no to few followers. Currently I'm trying to play Overwatch and some other games around the time of Midnight every day. Because I still live with my parents because they need my income to live because they're unemployed since 50.

So embrace YA dystopian fiction...right...

(I prefer a novel spoofing most of the famous ones, it's sorely needed)
>>
YouTubers may not need a lot of skill, but they need the following :
Social skills, being likable, luck, devotion, possibly funding for camera equipment or a good pc.
Let's take pewdiepie. He dropped out of university to pursue his YouTube career when it was still in its beginnings. He worked in a Hotdog stand to get by financially. That's devotion for me.
He is pretty likable. Imagine the average /r9k/ autist starting a YouTube channel. Nobody would want to watch that shit.
Social skills: you need to be friendly and not a sociopath who is only in it for the money. The money hunger will naturally develop once you start getting rich, but at the beginning you should care more about the community and the fans, because they're who are making you money.
And yeah luck because there can only be one person on top. Pewdiepie is on top, while a lot of great people aren't. That's just luck.

It's actually like becoming a Porn actor. I guess anyone could do it, but the fans decide who they like and who is good and who is boring or unattractive.

Too saturated at the moment. You either play one game at god level or some obscure ones. If you're entertaining enough, people will stick with you. If you could get into Overwatch team and get even into small lan-tournament, you'll get fame. Also you have to have some sort of your own attribute - doing something on some day. There are plenty of guys who play good but suck at entertainment therefore they are largely unknown.

>MUH CAPITALISM

Fucking retards ITT don't know what the fuck they're talking about.

Capitalism is good.

But modern capitalism is cheat capitalism? What do I mean by this?

In modern capitalism, using technology and massive marketing firms it is now directly more efficient to create value in a product rather than create a product people value.

Via marketing and posturing we can now make something nonsensical into an item of value. We could argue this was first practiced by DeBeers using the diamond trade, by artificially creating demand by purposely restricting an item from the market.

Now, in the tech age, it's much more complex, megacorporations can now directly manipulate the conditions to create value in an item, a culture, even a piece of information - it can still be useless, misleading or even harmful.

Capitalism is bastardized, broken.

To reiterate: it is more efficient now to directly create value in a product in the minds of people than it is to create a product of value or use.

For the extra retarded:
Old capitalism: Reward for providing a service/use/valuable item.

New capitalism: Reward for creating value in the cheapest output possible.

Your money and labor is literally becoming worthless before your eyes as the meaning of what is valuable is literally LITERALLY being manipulated freely and people actually defend this.

I think it's irrational to hate him without solid reason, but often times jealousy does make people mad, especially when they see someone making a lot of money for something they feel is not worthy of such an income.

My belief is that the very richest should be investing more in our country. They should give back shit tons, because they have a LOT to give. A lot of them don't, and it's a damn shame.

If I was worth 10 billion dollars, at the very minimum one billion would go back to improving my state. If I ever become incredibly rich I am definitely giving back to where I came from, in order to ensure that other people have the same opportunities to succeed.

tl;dr we shouldn't hate people for being successful, but we also shouldn't hate people for being poor and assume they're lazy and worthless

Of course that is the natural reaction, but that does not make it the morally correct or desirable reaction.
>>
>>28899495
But when normies do this, it's considered to be acceptable.

Superior people treating inferior like shit => considered okay
Inferior people treating them like shit back => considered not okay

It's not fair.
>>
>>28888024
eh he's going good now but the bubble WILL burst and after that he will have nothing, no valuable skills at all.
>>
>>28899522

Inferior people are, by definition, shit, so that's not an entirely true equivalence.

You can't expect things to be fair when the quality of each person's genetics and circumstance varies so wildly.
>>
>>28893343
What these communist, Che Guevera T-shirt wearing, latte sipping millenial hipsters don't understand is that if there is an armed revolution in America, it will be white rednecks killing their dumb liberal asses in cosmopolitan LA, NY and San Francisco. They won't be killing the rich billionaires.

>You can't expect things to be fair when the quality of each person's genetics and circumstance varies so wildly.
And you can't expect me to be hateful when things are not fair.
>>
>>28899637

You're being angry at the effect, not the cause, which makes no sense.

Because it's impossible to change.

I can't accept that without being angry and hateful at normies. I won't.

>if you think winning the lottery is so easy why don't you win the lottery too

While there's some more work into making youtube crap than buying a ticket, whether you make it or not still has more to do with luck than anything.

People love to throw the just world fallacy term around in loosely related situations, while youtubers are the definition of the term. Making popular youtube videos requires acting dumb, crass, loud, keeping pre-teens addicted to your garbage like a virtual crack dealer selling right outside of the schoolgate.

Not only it sucks, but on virtue of being so much easier to produce it dwarfs quality content, gets more recommendations, and the rich gets richer. Endless loop of crap, pushing higher quality channels out of the market.

You know what's the worst? That if there's a guy who will say "hey I'll make a game, if you're interested and want to support me in making it, please donate" and then he makes a game, that you actually like, he will recieve maybe 100$ on patreon if he's lucky. But if a FAGGOT makes a reaction video to that game, his reaction video with him screaming like an autistic kid will make him thousands.

CONTENT is no longer rewarded. Guys who create actual CONTENT are not rewarded.

That's capitalism. Don't blame that guy, blame his viewers who give him money.

This thread got me triggered. No, I don't give a single fuck about some little kind making bank providing value, no matter how braindead it may appear or actually be.

There are pretentious fucks in the whole thread that, while they are 99% change o them bullshiting, (>>28888514; >>28888677, for example) still bothers me.

No, you untalented fucks. Books are going nowhere. Radio didn't killed it, TV didn't killed, internet haven't killed and nor will youtube. There will always be people interested in stories. Good authors, or at least interesting authors, make real bank doing their work. Yeah, they don't earn more than a fucking Taylor Swift, but they still provide value.

There is no inherent value. No matter how much you cry that what you do is valuable, if nobody sees so.
