you don't remove it, i'm pretty sure it just wears off through you moving around or just natural wear and tear; i don't know much about chemistry but i'm assuming all of the molecules at some point attract all the water they can, or heat and extra moisture does something with it.
to put it on you get ,whatever footwear it is you're waterproofing, soaking wet and rub in the wax until you've done the whole item. it says pay special attention to any seams or where any hardware is because water can easily seep in through there
you can tell when you need a new coating if you run it under some water and the water doesn't bead up as well, or when you're walking around in the rain or through puddles and your feet feel wet, because this should keep you 100% dry (in my experience that is)

I have size 15 feet. The least expensive off-the-shelf option for me is military suplus boots. And honestly, I really don't care what a bunch of teenyboppers think of my fashion sense. Besides, I already wear a tactical vest and a fedora, so it all matches. (And I look good in it too.)
As a girl, I'm not super familiar with the nuances of men's footwear, but it's really obvious when a guy is clueless about how to dress. That said, it's usually not just the shoes that give it away. You can spot an unaware autist a mile away. I don't find these people in the wild to be offensive, but I don't think I could bring myself to date a guy that lacked the desire to present himself in a way that's flattering for his build. Perhaps that's a bit shallow, but it's true.

Not everyone here is a skinny teenybopper; some of us actually see action on the streets. I started wearing a tac vest, for example, because as a community organizer I need to carry so much stuff with me: pipe, tobacco, lighter, recording devices, notebooks, forms, pens, bug spray, knife, and so on. I had an uncle who did the same kind of work and he wore a fishing vest for the same reason. Here's a basic outline of how to dress decently while keeping cool, without looking like a try hard /fa/ggot:
Shirts:
-fitted polo
-fitted short-sleeved button up
-short-sleeved Henley t-shirt
-linen shirt
Note: Fitted does not mean tight. Fitted means that it is flattering for your shape and isn't boxy or billowing. You still want proper airflow to keep you cool. There are tons of guides on line for how to judge whether a shirt fits you correctly or not. This is especially important if you are a big guy or very scrawny.
Pants:
-fitted flat front shorts
-slim fit chinos
Avoid denim if you can, as it's a heavy fabric with a tight weave that won't breathe well. Any tropical weight cotton pant will be far more comfortable.
Shoes:
-boat shoes
-canvas sneakers
-Italian loafers/moccasins
Other tips:
-Try ditching a heavy leather belt for a lighter woven cotton belt or braided leather
-If cargo shorts appeal to you for the storage, try a lightweight shoulder bag to carry your items
-pick shirts and pants in different colors and textures to add a pop of interest
