Reminder that this is what separates a "lazy genius" from an actual genius. Akrasia is very real problem, but a genius person would try to find ways around it.

Nice, so you picked a meme major or a meme university, perhaps even a combination of the two and this somehow made you think you were a genius?

Meanwhile, actual geniuses like mr Kaku were building particle accelerators in their garage when they were in high school without internet being even available.

Anyone who is actually proud of being a /lazy genius/ or even just a genius is a massive prick. What the fuck are you going to do with your supposed genius? That's what matters, in the end.

A 'genius' who contributes nothing is worse than a retard who contributes even a little something. Your worth is defined by the stuff you accomplish during your life, and "genius" is only apparent after you've accomplished something.

You don't know what it's like to be autistic. Its hard.

Drop outs either sink or flourish. They sink because they try and join in the normie system and cant adhere to the normie rules of "do this cause I say so". The other drop outs who make their own way do well because they don't "do this because convention says so"
>>

I was literally diagnosed with autism. Don't use it as an excuse. To blame your autism (or, really, any difficulty) as the reason for not achieving knowledge or success is to distract yourself from the real problem, your irresolution or indifference.

It is physically impossible to be these two things at the same time. You can't have high energy thought without constantly feeling the need to fulfil the intensity you feel inside. I'm not a genius, but I was tested multiple times as a kid and averaged at around 160-170.

I'm not lazy, though. However, I do have a severe anxiety disorder, which has gotten worse and worse as I've aged, and it cripples me in life. I try and force myself to take initiative, be social, etc, but the more I try, the more bad experiences I have. With so many things in my life now, when I even consider trying it leads to flashbacks of previous times I've fucked up and made a fool of myself, and that in turn leads to panic attacks that leave me curled up on the bathroom floor with my heart beating out of my chest.

The only medication that's ever worked for me was MDMA, and I'm not dumb enough to think that I can do it regularly and not end up even worse than I am. Once or twice a year, when there's a big event like an anime con going on, I pop a pill and go down, make a ton of friends, flirt with girls, party it up, get numbers and FBs, and the like. Everybody there thinks I'm awesome, and I'm constantly getting calls and messages inviting me out to stuff. They don't know what I'm really like, and usually I make some kind of excuse or whatever. Sometimes I even get dressed up, and ready to go, and then I look in the mirror and see something off, or just start thinking about how I'll act around them sober, and it leads right back to the bathroom floor for a while and then back to the computer and /r9k/.
>>

Genius coming thru
>>
>>27879741
I know, people never believe me when I say it. None of my friends even know about it.

I was in a special "highly gifted" program through my whole school career, and the cutoff to get into it was 145, which I beat pretty easily. Unfortunately, what nobody figured out until around 6th grade was that I had a neurological motor skill disorder that made it nearly impossible for me to write text by hand. I could get out maybe a single barely legible sentence by the time the rest of the class could write a whole essay, and after a few months of it, I just gave up. I failed classes, couldn't keep my assignments straight, this was the early '90s so computers weren't accepted in school yet and I couldn't use those to make up for my disorder like I can now. My parents screamed at me, threw things at me, and beat me on an almost daily basis. "You're a genius, this should be so easy, why won't you just try harder?" For weeks at a time, the only meals I got to eat were school lunches, because my parents thought that denying me dinner might "motivate" me. I was sent to numerous psychologists, prescribed multiple ADD medications that I didn't need and which fucked me up in the head, constantly disciplined in school. One teacher thought that peer pressure would change me, so she encouraged the other students to treat me like shit and would punish them for being friendly to me. I was with those same classmates all the way through high school, and they never changed, by the way.

Finally, in late 5th or early 6th grade, I was put in a class with a TA, a grad student who happened to be the student of a prominent specialist in childhood neurological disorders. She got a hunch, and referred me to her professor, who tested me and figured out what was wrong with me. After that, for two years I met with a specialist tutor every day, and she taught me how to work around my disorder and I learned to write.

Unfortunately, it was far too late emotionally.

Can we stop misusing the word "genius"?

You're not a genius unless you've spent inordinate amounts of time in a given field and are literally able to do it in your sleep. As in, you are so obsessed and competent that it invades your dreams and still makes sense. Genius is proficiency, not potential.

Yes, you could have a very high IQ. Who doesn't? But if you haven't used it, you are simply "gifted". You could be a genius, but you're too lazy to achieve anything with it.

There is no such thing as "lazy genius". Genius does, and does not wait.

I hope this clears some things up for you faggots.

Perfect pitch (or good relative if you don't believe in it) fag here, you're only partially right. Having a good ear helps you listen to and play along with songs/improvise, but there's an entire dimension to music that is just math and completely on paper. One can theoretically learn the rules of music theory and master the fundamentals of a given instrument, and through synthesis of that knowledge they can write and play their own ideas. Not only that, but they could be pretty good.

Music is patterns, with multiple approaches.

>he uses IQ to distuingish himself

You know why "being smart" is even something desirable, something people brag about, look up toand aspire to be? Because it's about potential. Potential for greatness, for success, for changing the world. Being smart has no intrinsic value. Nobody cares about your bright mind if you do nothing with it. An idea without execution is worthless.

Also who the fuck would actually be "lazy by choice". It's like being a glutton by choice, it's a weakness, something you fail to overcome, not something you chose to be.
>>
>>27883244

IQ is determined by IQ test. A disproportionate range of IQs skewed towards the higher end is to be expected in a high IQ thread. Any other basic concepts you are struggling to understand?
>>
GUYS MY IQ IS LIKE SO HIGGGHHHHH

>This is what retards actually believe
>>
>>27883244
>And why does all of r9k seem to be full of geniuses?
There are millions of people who visit 4chan, and probably thousands who visit /r9k/ semi-regularly. Not everyone is going to post their IQ. Those who do usually have something to say about it, as you see. They are articulate and have experiences to share. Also, high intelligence and psychological traumas are a recipe for social isolation, every time. Normal people don't become shut-ins.
>>
>>27883315

I'm pretty sure you are the only person in the world dumb enough to think that. Being intelligent in cool because you got greater results from less effort.

Sloth and laziness are choices no matter how you look at it. Catholic le seven sins is bullshit . The entire reason I do anything is for fun.
>>
>>27883387
>Being intelligent in cool because you got greater results from less effort.
Only if you apply it. Which goes against the whole lazy thing.
>>
>>27878822
The lazy genius thing is a myth perpetuated by lazy losers. If you were a genius you'd be successful.
>>
>>27883387
He's right though. People don't want to be "smart" because they think they'll appreciate the world more fully, create works of art, or discover abstract truths. They're not smart enough to conceive the possibility of those things. People want to be "smart" because it confers social advantages and puts them above others. It's entirely selfish and short-sighted.
>>
>>27883387
Lazy people have less fun though.
>>
>>27883387
You can also do something straight away, while you watch your less talented peers trying to learn how to do it really hard. You feel kinda irritated at them not getting it, but you hide it. Then you see how satisfied they look after they master it, and you wonder how it must feel. But when you try something that challenges you, it's some obscure shit that no one else does, so you can't share the experience of doing it. Languages are about the only fun thing to learn, because you can get people who are so much more proficient than you naturally that it's a bit of a challenge.
>>
>>27883315
>something you fail to overcome, not something you chose to be
No, it isn't.

Besides, why would you want to be diligent in this world we live in?
>>
>>27879936
Really geniuses study, they just barely need to because they use their time so efficiently, therefore also not lazy. There's a difference between studying material you already have known for a while and being bored with it as opposed to just not putting in the effort and your grades suffering as a result
>>
>>27878822
Wish I was a genius. My compositions would probably come out way nicer :(
>>
>>27883458
Why wouldn't you? Everything is better if you put your all into it.

>have no intention of making quality products, someone else has to fix any minor problems for me
>married to a girl who was way out of my league
>wife cooks and cleans
>let friends do the hosting any time i want to hang out
>spend weekends playing on my computer
>avoid doing favors
>forget about friends if they don't contact me constantly
>>
normies are always so triggered by this shit, can't grasp the fact that there's plenty of highly intelligent social outcasts.

The most successful people don't have extremely high IQs either, real "chad" leadership intelligence is around 1-2 stddevs above mean at most.
>>
>>27882949
But I do have perfect pitch...
>>
>>27883527
Which goes to show you, again, being intelligent has no intrinsic value and not really worth bragging about if you do nothing with it.
>>
>>27883244
> Teacher thinks I am retarded
>Recommends mom to get me tested (brags that her kids got 110 or so).
>Get full marks on the normal IQ test.

Doesn't matter. I haven't achieved anything, so I'm a faliure.
>>
>>27883491
Why would it be?
>>
>>27883566
Because generally, the better you are at something, the more do you get out of it. The more invested you are into something, the bigger the impact it has on you.

Doing everything half-assed is a boring and bland life.
>>
>>27883527
>there's plenty
clearly none of them are you.

give up on these retarded commentaries to be honest. people slip through the cracks and get unlucky, but if you are smart over a fucking lifetime and not just on your high school tests, then you find success. you have a huge misunderstanding of what being intelligent actually implies. if you aren't getting what you want from people, if people don't understand you, or if you don't understand how to achieve something you want and just make up excuses, you are not intelligent.
>>
>>27883596
I'd prefer bland over unpleasant.

>highschool gifted program died out with the neighborhood's aging population
>retards in my class, no advanced class content
>never study
>graduate with over 90% average with 0 effort

and now I'm barely scraping by in college since the work load effectively increased by infinity percent. worst highschool, shoulda gone into IB instead
>>
>>27883605
That's not very smart.
>>
>>27883610
>challenge program

>then full IB school
>go to state school
>workload drops from 10 hours of academic shit every day to 1-2

>all my friends ended up highly successful
>got a job right out of university as a lab tech despite not having relevant experience (i just lied about having micro classes)
>ended up best employee in the lab and took over as the quality manager in 3 months

university was just a 4 year vacation for me to play Halo 3/Reach and party with people. I did connect with some cool entrepreneurs, so if it didn't work out on my own I'd be doing sales or programming for a small company.

I'm actually close to a concert pianist in my skill level. I could have been a professional pianist, by skill, but not the will. I don't want to do it for living. So I'm just a pretty good amateur now.

inb4 u lie, I started piano lessons at 5 years old.

The thread
>>
>Tfw actually am smart and lazy but actually have a shelf stacked up with academic rewards and am cruising down to get a useful degree
Most of you fags who say your smart and lazy don't have anythibg to show for it. If you accomplished jack shit for what you have, you might as well be literally retarded.
>>
I won't say that I'm a genius because I think that as soon as you say it, you lose it.
>>
To everybody itt: you might think that being a genius is simply the ability to ace a test or do shit without trying, but the truth is that we only know of geniuses because of their excellence in personal projects. History won't remember you unless you make something big. So if you're smart enough to cruise through life without even trying, cool, but please don't call yourself a genius.
>>
>>27887455

You're not a genius either, but you've certainly got the autism of a genius.
