Because machines are incapable of dealing with fuckups. They're only good for repetitive tasks that require no variation. What happens when there's a spill? Who's gonna clean the machines? Who's gonna restock the supplies? Who's gonna order more pickles and keep track of expiration dates? Sure, you can replace a line cook with a robot. But that robot is gonna be expensive as fuck to purchase and maintain, and it won't be able to do half the things a line cook can. It'll be cheaper/easier/less of a PITA just to have a line cook there. And you're still gonna need somebody to do prep unless you're using all specially packaged shit, which will come at a premium, taste like ass, and still most likely require somebody to open it and feed it into the machine.

Top kek
Machines won't be used to completely run anything, especially not fast food, for a long time.
The reason why is simple. Overhead costs and maintenance.
It's more expensive for them to use machines to run a restaurant than it is to cycle through new employees every few months and never give anyone a raise. Fully automated machines require constant maintenance, and mechanics who can work on them aren't cheap. The parts to repair them aren't cheap. Day to day upkeep isn't cheap. It's not economical.

Machines are expensive, sure, but it's about the speed and mass production. A lot of factories are fully automated, even with the high cost of machines, because they can make a lot of stuff very quickly.
Perhaps automation isn't the sort of thing you would do to that smaller mcdonalds out on the highway or on a lesser high-street in the outskirts of the city, but it would work well in a very busy one in a city centre that has dozens of customers coming in constantly.
People walk away from those places when they see the line is too long. If you could automate it then you could serve customers fast enough so you wouldn't get long lines. Then you could have even more customers.
Maybe. What the fuck do I know.

The reason the lines get so long is because of how long it takes to prepare the meal. The time it takes wouldn't be cut down by much if a machine ran it, because it will take the same time to cook. It isn't worth it right now. In the future, perhaps.
>>27722553
Yeah I'm saying a mcburger machine would need to be precise. Unless you want it fucking everything up. There's a lot more to a machine that would put a burger together for human consumption than you know about. If you're uneducated about how machinery works, don't bother responding.
>>27722905
it just needs to slap together 2 buns, a patty and some fuckin lettuce/pickles
as long as they're all stacked in proper order(which wouldn't be a problem fuckwit), and the machine is sanitary, then it'd be easy as piss
>>27722944
Go ahead and design a machine that can do that. It isn't easy.
It has to do everything exactly the same every time, or it will eventually deviate away from putting the burger together right. You have no idea what you're talking about, and it's painfully obvious.
>>27722481
they don't understand the economy
A high minimum wage is good for the economy, it keeps money in the system. once a rich person gets money it is effectively removed from the system and added to their hoard. now, you raise the minimum wage then they can increase prices to make up for it, but their competitors will take a lower profit and keep prices the same and drive them out of business.
Then you have people who work at food places going out for food regulary, feeding more money into the system, the internal service economy grows.
Western civilization is built on a strong middle class, many rich people do not understand this and don't care about anything but increasing their own bank account
>>27722993
>It has to do everything exactly the same every time, or it will eventually deviate away from putting the burger together right.
except it doesn't and proper programming can take care of this
I'd design a machine to do this, and it'd probably take me a few days to a week to do so, but the thread would be over by then. If you can't easily think of a system for how it would operate, you may be functionally retarded.
Most industrial systems are almost completely automated and they involve highly complex programming procedures, programming a fucking automated grill to slide patties onto a bun would be easy as fuck to do
>>27722875
>it will take the same time to cook

>>27723049
a high minimum wage, without increasing all other wages equally, will lead the devalue of work, and even increasing ALL wages, would cause jobs to leave the country to a place where it can be done cheaper. What needs to be done isn't increase wages, but to increase the value of work and the value of the dollar, driving down prices and driving up the standard of living
>>27723055
Tell me what a single thing in this image is or shut the fuck up.
Yes of course it's easy to do! But guess what? The result is not going to be any better or even equivalent to just hiring some random nigger off the street. I'm not saying it's impossible to do, it has been done. I'm saying it's not economically viable.
How would the machine move the patties from the grill to the bun? How does it move the top of the bun onto the finished burger? How would it measure how much of a condiment it has placed? There's too many variables for it to be reasonable.
Sure, you can use high tech (expensive) sensors and timers and pressure gauges to determine all these things, but guess what? You can pay someone almost nothing, and they'll do the job just as well.
And guess what? When a machine fucks up, there goes the entire day's profits. When some mong doesn't show up, oh well, have the cashier do two jobs.
but these machines are expensive initially and require programming for them
im ok with that since I'm at the software engineering side of things

also someone has to repair those things. They aren't like the shitty n64 stations in the play area that the staff never fixes, they're an integral part of the system that requires constant maintenance. And heaven help you if they don't work or the customer doesn't know how to use it because tech support is leagues more awful than burger flipping (though it does usually pay better!).
ITT: retardation
The problem isn't designing the machinery. It's making it affordable and completely reliable, and then having people there that can quickly troubleshoot it when it goes wrong. It would also require construction and modification to every McDonald's. There's also legal bullshit to sort through.
There's no way a company as experienced as McDonald's would be dumb enough to roll this out all at once anyway. There'd be a few test locations, then a few more, then some more, until in maybe in 6-10 years, every McDonald's is a robo McDonald's, and a few locations have been shutdown and new ones brought in.
And do you think gubbments are gonna be eager to just have this new, giant group of unemployed people to deal with on public rolls? Do you think they might not add a little resistance to the corporate effort?
There's going to have to be some inflation injected in the form of higher low-end wages for personal debt to be taken care of in the US anyway, at some point, unless they're willing to let things actually break down.
Maybe people only making 15 dollars an hour should be pissed off their job requires so much and only pays them 15 fucking dollars an hour. Will prices go up? Sure. That's inflation. Is it a 1:1 transition? Of course not, you fucking retards.

That only works when most of your population isn't already in tremendous debt, or when your economy isn't part of a global one, or when banks don't make loans based on other loans.
Why do you think a high minimum wage wouldn't lead to higher wages everywhere else anyway? It's not just an automatic switch, but all wages would eventually go up; if a position is truly just bullshit, maybe it'll get axed altogether instead.
And again, America runs on debt. Inflate or break is all it can do at this point.
is everybody supposed to go into a stem feild then? thats not possible, if machines replace all the min wage jobs, wouldnt we have huge amounts of homeless people because of it?
everyone in this thread is extremely retarded
if mcdonalds or any other super rich multinational corporation could replace workers with machines they would have done it already regardless of the minimum wage. Fast food jobs aren't union protected or anything, they're under no obligation to hire people. The fact they haven't means it's not feasible at the current level of technology, or that it isn't profitable in the long run.
Like the entire argument is retarded anyway. As if a corporation needs a minimum wage increase as an excuse to fuck workers over. 'Bow to your corporate master you privileged shitlord' is never a good way to win people to your side of a debate.

Yeah, that's not true. When I worked in a meat factory, there was a robot arm in a plastic box that had suckers on the end of it. It would reach over, press down on 4 packs of meatballs, lift them up and put them down on the other side. Once, one of the meat ball packs fell off and landed in its path. It whacked the packet of meatballs, and just kept ignoring it and knocking it all over the place until the pack opened and it was flinging mince meat everywhere, all over its box.

that robot chef would cost more to maintain and it's not even necessary for fast food prep. most of fast food cooking is actually automated already. good customer service is the only thing robots can't do yet, and for the cleaning and organizing and wrapping and all that, humans at min wage are far more reliable throughout the day.
i can't believe how fucking retarded people are about machines. there will never be a shortage of unskilled positions. adults shouldn't expect adult paychecks when they work like children, but automation is the last fucking thing you should ever worry about in this situation. There are literally tens of millions of people who could replace you with fewer demands and better results.

once "machines completely automate" fast food, you're gonna have to change it from "fast food" to just "food". that shit is going to take forever.
do the machines have access to the ovens, freezers and refrigerators?
how do the machines make biscuits and mcgriddles and apple pies and cookies?
do they have logistics for the microwaves?
they can prepare the Parfaits, drinks and ice creams too, right?
how do the machines prepare the hotcakes and oatmeal? what if someone asks for oatmeal and fresh cookies, do the cookies fly from a conveyor belt also?
how do the machines prepare and mix the sweet tea, what if the mix for the ice cream and shakes run out??
basically, you would have to completely redesign everything from scratch. how everything is stored, how it's shipped, gathered, positioned, prepared.
the amount of space it would take... Mcdonalds would need to be twice the size it is or you wouldn't be able to eat in the lobby, they'd all be take-out.
>wow, machines can flip burgers
okay let me know when they prepare every single thing on the menu, refill depleted products and can discern between what's fresh and old in case someone asks for fresh food to be made on the spot.

>>27724106
I completely agree, and because it's mathematically outrageous and not just muh feelings outrageous, it won't happen so suddenly. But the math also rejects any notion that automation will take over those positions. More likely, a lot of locations will just close. In seattle there were plenty of people who were getting fucked in the ass by min wage but most workers were making 11-12 already so it wasn't such a huge leap especially in a very busy city. Doing it statewide just doesn't make sense but if history is any indicator you'll just have higher costs of living and literally nothing would change for the lower class (it would make life shittier for middle though).
Anyway spongebob squarepants robots are decades away from production.

Believe it or not blanket high pay has a lot of negatives that can outweigh the benefits. Higher minimum wages hurts small businesses profitability like you wouldn't believe and can drive them out. That creates less jobs over all and less options for the consumer. Giving more power to corporations to in turn raise the amount of $ required for a good standard of life and you're stuck right back where you were to begin with.
Money is not infinite. Giving yourself more money means that someone else somewhere gets less, there is no "everyone gets more" situation.

An employer takes on the financial risk. He reaps the benefit of the good times and pays the price of the bad times.
An employee (typically) does not take on any of this risk. They are paid a steady wage, giving them financial security regardless of how well the business is doing.
Go ahead and start your own business. Promise your employees their wages will rise as profits rise. Most businesses don't even break even until they've been running for half a year. Good luck getting employees that will work for free until then.

Either way, go and do some research and you'll find plenty of sources that will tell you minimum wage increases do cause unemployment and plenty of sources that will tell you minimum wage increases don't cause unemployment.
On a related note, here's this:
https://www.dol.gov/featured/minimum-wage/mythbuster
>Myth: Increasing the minimum wage will cause people to lose their jobs.
>In a letter to President Obama and congressional leaders urging a minimum wage increase, more than 600 economists, including 7 Nobel Prize winners wrote, "In recent years there have been important developments in the academic literature on the effect of increases in the minimum wage on employment, with the weight of evidence now showing that increases in the minimum wage have had little or no negative effect on the employment of minimum-wage workers, even during times of weakness in the labor market. Research suggests that a minimum-wage increase could have a small stimulative effect on the economy as low-wage workers spend their additional earnings, raising demand and job growth, and providing some help on the jobs front.

2. small business is where america excels, read a book
3. corporate greed memes aside, there is far more money from those profits going back into the company or the economy in general than is being held in some offshore account. if they were systematically ineffective with this money they would have never succeeded in the first place, or they would be quickly replaced by the competition.

What did he mean by this?
With Capitalism the system is fool proof, meaning it's not left to the will of some leader, but built into the system. And responsibility is diverted from individuals and blamed on the system itself, or on natural law, or social Darwinism or some other such inalienable condition. This is how you get people who will ignore any injustice happening around them because they can't find a name or face to pin it on. Wanna tell us how many deaths Stalin was responsible for again? >>27725737
Not anyone you're replying too either but I worked in fast food for all of a year and I can tell you that you'll hit diminishing returns on the cost of automation compared to money saved in the long run. You could cut out a lot of jobs, but having actual human beings to do the handful of work a robot can't easily do and have people around to troubleshoot when the system inevitably fails will never stop being a requirement.
>>27725737
curing cancer would be simple too. except for the part where costs would be astronomical.
if you've seen the process almost everything is already automated. the few things that mcdonalds has employees do are not simple, practical, or even on the horizon yet for machines. most customers aren't tech savvy hipsters who just want a burger vending machine (but you could certainly open a few along the coasts), and most locations would just lose a fuck load of money on maintenance for machines that mostly just collect dust.

It's not just menial labor that is automatable.
For instance, most trading on the New York Stock Exchange is done by daytrading AI's. Not human stockbrokers. Doctors already consult diagnostic AI to diagnose patients, and they already use pharmacology software to make sure their medicines don't conflict.
It is not just McDonalds employees who will be out of work.

>>27726089
anything anyone says is meaningless though. even right now 100% of the population doesn't have to work in free countries. automation won't change the fundamental dynamics of supply and demand, and it never has. people just adjust to either move to where automation isn't sustainable or discover new opportunities.
>>27726154

this is a different question. people lose their jobs all the time for a million different reasons.
you mention tools that assist the scaling of services. any study you look up will say that we are really behind on building and establishing those tools to accommodate increasing demands. if you make machine learning algorithms you can be the laziest dick on the planet and easily earn a fat paycheck.

>>27727603
I actually wrote a paper about this for a political science class where we had to write about how we would pragmatically solve a societal issue we believed to be important. I chose overpopulation. I covered my racist beliefs by using terms like "lower class" and "economically disadvantaged" instead of "filthy niggers" and "spics that breed like rabbits."
If we stopped giving foreign aid to third world countries, that would lower their birth rates and help them build their own economies. If our government offered any citizen $15K to get sterilized plus paid for the cost of the surgery, tons of poor people would do that. Lots of poor people in America are minorities so that means fewer minorities and maybe the white share of the population can finally increase. $15K is a bargain compared to what the taxpayer would spend in cradle to grave benefits for the illegitimate Jamals and Pablos that would never exist if their parents were sterilized.
I got a B on the paper. The professor thought it was well-written and that I made my arguments well but he didn't think eugenics could be used in the present day because COME ON IT'S THE CURRENT YEAR and we were supposed to write about practical solutions.

My mom is a teacher in a public school in a high-poverty area. She gets kids coming in all the time that happily admit "mom had me because the state pays for 5! :D :D :D"
They'll continue to have the max number of children and THEN get the sterilization. You can't stop this except by removing the child aid (which will never pass because you can't take money from children! :( :( ;( ) or by limiting it to people that already don't have kids (which limits the effectiveness, because the kids are a long-term payout and most people needing handouts are going to be past the point of family planning to begin with).
It really isn't viable in any way that approaches voluntary.
>>27721540

Yes, I know how interest works. Except off-shore tax havens aren't exactly trickling down shit to the countries the big multinationals operate in.
Loans aren't trickle down economics, they're flimsy "I.O.U."s which create bubbles that fuck everything up for everyone. 2008 was the inevitable culmination of your economic philosophy, as all money was fake loan money.
>>27728063
2008 was retards handing out shitty loans. Not evidence that loans in general are bad.
You want to start a small business, but you don't have the $300k start-up capitol. How are you going to raise that money? The obvious answer is via a loan.
btw, "trickle down economics" was a slur libfags invented to strawman Reaganomics. Neither Reagan nor any conservative economist at the time ever called it that.
>>27727955
How about the 15k followed by yearly payments like I mentioned?
Make the argument that these are horrible parents and make a few documentaries about niggers beating the shit out of their kids and spread it around enough until people agree that instead of giving aid to Shaniqua the kids should be put up for adoption or raised in state orphanages (we'll call them Child Centers and make them look great), but make the point that Shaniqua cannot be allowed to ruin the lives of any children.
Now, I don't give a shit about minorities because I'm white, so I really don't care if this is better or worse for the children (Honestly, I doubt it'd be any worse for them, and white trash would get filtered through too).
Eugenics is moral as fuck. I'm reading a book about cancer and this couple had a 50 percent chance of passing on a rare genetic disease that massively raises the chances of developing cancer; not only did these fucks have one kid who had it, they decided to have ANOTHER little girl who also ended up getting it. These kids have to go get screened once a month for tumors.
Like why the fuck should that be legal? Why the fuck SHOULDN'T we regulate who can and cannot have children? Garbage parents and garbage genetic lines have caused plenty of problems for everyone, include those people themselves.
>>27727955
Its simple. You tie the amount of the lump sum to how many kids they have. Have more kids, get less money when you're sterilized.
Poor people have no concept of time preference, they will, by and large, take the biggest lump sum they can get.

>>27728144
It's an accurate description of the idea that if you give the rich tax breaks and let them keep more of their money, they'll spend it in the economy and thereby create jobs. It's also the most common description for that idea. I don't see the point of getting huffy about either fact.
>>27728144
I'd argue consumer loans are very bad. Student loans, car loans, credit card loans, mortgage loans, etc. are way too easy to get. Business loans are a totally different thing.
Student loans are evil as shit. If a kid is smart enough to handle college, they should get a free ride at state school. This would force schools to contain costs and ratchet up entry requirements. Now, this system is already partly in place with scholarships and shit, and but it doesn't really do anything to stop people who don't belong in school from going to school to delay adulthood or the inevitable low-class job they'll have to eventually accept.
But no, let's just invent bullshit majors and programs that anyone can coast through, convince everyone college degrees are interchangeable, and offer them virtually unlimited money to go get drunk and party every night for 4 years.
But of course, we can't force stricter entry requirements on all accredited schools, because niggers hab hrd tiem wit entry tests n shieettt. Gee, maybe not everyone should go to college? I know I didn't belong there.

I agree though that this whole "everyone should get a higher education" meme needs to die.

Get a medical job. Those won't be phased out as quickly.
>>27728531
Hence the entrance exams.
But you're right, the ultimate problem is the idea that everyone should go to college. I think something like 28 percent of American adults have a Bachelor's now. Like, what the fuck?
>>27728531
>>27728713
You can look at it as sort of a dumb animal rush. The idea that everybody should do college came from people who knew of a college education as something that automatically got you a pretty good job; mostly boomers, who inherited the idea from the Greatest Generation. What they weren't thinking about is that degrees were valuable because most people didn't have one. Now that a college education is more common, it's relatively worth less.
Still, apparently it's 33% of Americans who have a degree of some kind. 1 out of every 3, not as bad as I thought.

Don't be stupid, it's emergent circumstances. Someone made it easier for people to get into college via the GI bill, then those people got better jobs, which made everyone else want them, which made everyone rush the system, and that (combined with colleges/universities hiring corporate scam artists to increase revenue) has led to the tarnishing of the system.
There's nobody at the wheel here, and that's the whole problem.
Cmon guys. We're still waiting for the wealth to trickle down like that fucking crook Reagan said. Capitalism is not self sustainable and eventually we will all be wage slaves. The gap in income is STILL increasing. Some people are so rich their residual income is making them money. The system doesn't scale properly. It's obvious but no one wants to admit it. Admitting it now would only welcome chaos and anarchy. An upheaval is out of the question.
Do you think anyone aged 18 and up in this current year will even be able to afford retirement? Next generation is probably going to be born owing money at this point.

How often does your computer blue screen?
How often does your phone freeze?
I bet not nearly as often as they did 10 years ago. Technology is getting better. Same for mcburger automation. Just takes time.

Your computer only bluescreens when you fuck up.
85% of people can't even read the sale tags properly at my store. They'll replace me as a cashier the day people learn to fucking read.
>>27729612
They're getting angry because it will destory the economy. Inflation will go up to levels that might affect the rich instead of the plebs, and we can't be doing with that can we.
>mfw one day even lawyers will get replaced by robots.
meh. i'm going to be a cook. Try and do that better than me robot!
>>27730035
Unless you're good enough to feed the elite then you're fucked. Society have successfully been weaned onto Corn Syrup and Sugar, they can be weaned onto purely robot-made food even in restaurants.

and you can talk shit when it becomes possible. until then you might as well claim we have hoverboards and can travel at the speed of light. also you seem to be completely confused as to how people adjust.

EPIC FEMINIST WIN 10/10 MASS MURDERERS IN OUR FUTURE
>>27730133
People have adjusted because there has always been something else to do. That's because humans are more capable than computers at holistic and overall level.
A human-level computer that can be duplicated is all that is needed to break everything.
Why is this so confusing for people like you?
>>27721357
>don't offend the customer with my idiocy
No, instead customers get offended by their own idiocy when they somehow can't figure out how to use a simple touch screen ordering system, and blame the machine.
>>27730171
>a human level computer
light speed travel and hoverboards. we haven't changed the "level" that a computer operates at since we designed the first microprocessors.

>less income inequality will destroy the economy
Rich people actually believe this
>>27727189
Yes, this is why all textiles are created by hand instead of using factory automation: because the Luddites smashed some machines and their former employers shrugged their shoulders and rehired them. Oh wait, no they didn't, the British Army fucked them six ways to Sunday instead.
>>27730271
Yep, that's just the way it is. Why have more people able to spend money on actual things when you can have rich people affording that third small nation?

Lol they have these in the mcdix in all the places I travel to.
I usually drive thru tho.
But now I go inside knowing I don't have to deal with some fatass sassy sheboon.

>>27721357
But they only accept cards. Except for fast-food places in nice parts of town, these machines would be broken pieces of shit in a month or less.
For the ones which take cash, they'd better be built like fucking tanks, because every hungry nigger will simply try to break the machine open to steal the money. They might even break them for the hell of it.

You'd be stupid not to replace your employees with them if possible. Social Darwinism will eventually wean out the weak ones (not unlike myself).
Dear Neets:
You do realize that your parents are going to die at some point right? The only reason being a Neet is mildly enjoyable for you is the fact that they have given you a nice home to sleep in. When they pass away and you can't afford to pay taxes on that house and all the utilities you will have to live in section 8 housing with a bunch of niggers and retards. Look at yourself in the morning and ask yourself, am I ok with what I am? Really let the reality of being a literal parasite to society sink into you sub conscious and have it float around as you waste away your days. All that aside I think it is hilarious that you always compare you existance to fast food employees, you do realize that there are a lot of entry level jobs that pay way more than you make as a NEET. The type of money that can buy things, trips, experinces, etc. Also if you study a little bit on basic investing you could put enough money away to live a more lavish "neet" life. I am 27 and on track to retire in about 10 more years. My retiremetn income will far surpass your shitty neetbux and thanks to my income I have been able to take a trip to a different country twice a year from the age of 19.
>>27736273

why not 50$ an hour?
Then rising unemployment has the democrats calling for a universal basic income which I assume you know from Reddit.
Neetdom for all
>>27737323
Because thats far past the limit employers can afford? $15 is the very maximum limit. I should think $10/hour and getting rid of sales tax except on luxury stuff would be the best idea
I get checks from the government.
>>27721357
How do you get your money then, NEET? Are you on government assistance? I don't mind if you are, I'm just curious how you afford the lifestyle you have.
Since you're American, the government assistance you get is pretty negligible so I can't see you making rent and utilities with it. You might live with your parents, but what do you plan to do when they eventually pass on?
Again, just curious what your longterm/backup plans are.

Stopped reading there, maybe you should try working in a fast food place before joining this conversation.
>>27721426
???
Explain why it hasn't happened yet, then
>>27739817
People ask for custom orders because you're there. Extra ketchup or no tomato or whatever. But when they automate McDonald's, if that's too hard to do with the technology, they just won't give you the option and they'll bet on people being willing to put up with it, which they will.
>>27723992
how the hell did the phrase "you're a stupid person" make it though the robot?
Will someone explain to me how a $15 minimum wage will do anything but speed up inflation as $15 quickly becomes worth as much as minimum wage is now?
I mean, if everyone is making $x more, then no one really is.
>>27739883
It's basically just wealth redistribution since the highest earners won't be affected by it, and medium earners will get nominal raises so they know they're not worth-minimum-wage
>>27739883
Adjusted for inflation, the minimum wage is much lower than it's ever been in history.
>>27739931
If the next group up gets a raise, then sooner or later, the group just above them will get a raise, and so on up the chain, until minimum wage is worth the same fucking thing again.
If you're wondering where all the money is coming from, you're forgetting about all the minimum wagers with more money to blow.

No, because at some point the gap between wages gets so large that the increase will become redundant
