The girl I worked with was basically there to tick a box so my boss would get extra funding from the government. She went on the same training course I did and I had to help her pass it by order of the boss because they didn't have the budget to go through it all again. She was tiny, stick thin, would only eat one really specific flavour of tinned pies and toast, and cried if I didn't walk her to the local pub every night of the training so she could watch soaps. The training course was two weeks long and her parents visited her twice. She was the most helpless, pathetic excuse for a human I've ever met but the bosses weren't much better. She had some learning difficulties but she was mostly just really stupid, panicky and useless.
Our job was to walk around the town with the birds and bounce them to scare the seagulls away because at that point they'd gotten bad enough they'd taken a little kid's finger off. the thick girl once went marching into a restaurant with her harris hawk on her arm to scream at the poor waitresses because they hadn't cleared the outside tables yet. She got me into so much shit over that. She also got me pinned to a mesh by a tawny owl and locked my in an aviary I was cleaning with two great greys because she was supposed to be holding the door and she needed a fag. She was on the phone to her mummy and daddy for a couple of hours each day and cried at anything and everything.

The town I had that job in was pretty small, and in the uk. It was a tourist resort (gone massively downhill now, though). I dunno if it's still a thing but back when I worked there you could apply to the local council for a license to kill seagulls if they were on your roof. You had to do it humanely and not in nesting season, though. I was actually licensed to kill them for a year, although I never did it because fuck that, it's basically our fault they're not out at sea eating fish like they should be.

There's my advice to you lads: If there's a shop/restaurant/cafe/pub/whatever you go to and there's just something that feels good about the place - staff seem cool, you're actually interested in what they sell, the coffee really is the best in town, etc. - then even if it's still a "shit job", you probably wouldn't too much mind working there.

There is no excuse to reuse a dirty syringe or needle. The pharmacist was nice enough to hand me a sharps collection container along with it, that once full i can drop off and exchange for an empty one. So no, not a single one of my used syringes ended up in the garbage or landfill.

General rule of thumb is to work at a location for at least a year and give two weeks notice. That way you have solid work experience for your resume as well as a non pissed off reference (which in retail, no one checks).
Also there is literally no point in taking a new job if it's not BETTER than the one you're leaving. The job you're quitting needs to either pay you more, give you better benefits, or provide you the opportunity to land you a skill that will get you a better job in the future.

I don't think I'll have to deal with some of that all too often, there's not really any customization to orders or anything (like what you'd have to deal with in a place that serves sandwiches or burgers,) there's typically no lines (usually pick up orders) and doesn't seem all too bad during lunch hours, it's a pretty white area and the restaurant itself is placed in a pretty inconvenient area that I'm pretty sure most people would pass it up. People literally only come near this area to get dental work done.
The other shit'll suck, but it might not be so bad.

Working retail makes me want to blow my brains out everyday. My boss actually made a remark the other week, "geez whole crew looks like they want to kill themselves." No, apparently I violated a strict "no confrontation" policy and my injuries were my own fault. I had to take a week off unpaid. Only reason I didn't get fired was because there was proof I didn't have proper training on the policy or some shit. So essentially yes, I spotted a shoplifter, asked him politely to prove he was not shoplifting, got assaulted, pretty badly injured, and written up.

God, we have petty shoplifters at our store all the time. Mostly little achool brats. You sometimes get ghetto garbage walking in though that undoubtedly go in our store because all the city ones probably know their goddamn name by now.
And we can't do shit other than let them know we know they are in the store. Can't confront them or stop them. Fuck we can hardly do what we can do to stop them because all of them are minorities and will play the race card. Actually had a woman report to a manager that I was being racist for "following her around the store". I wasn't even trying to follow her. Just making my rounds across the store for clean up. Luckily that manager writes and assumes that I may have advertantly stopped theft because people who pull the race card like that are usually the ones who do steal. They play the card to try to get people in serious trouble as revenge.
Hopefully when it is is time for me to move out, I can move somewhere that lets their stores not be pussies about defending themselves from things like theft.
