Maybe Trump is exactly what this country needs.

Safe Spaces is bullshit
SJWs are bullshit
People leech off of welfare because they're too lazy to find jobs
Fat people stay fat because we're not supposed to ridicule them
Retards in congress want to accept refugees when we KNOW that many of them are terrorists
As a successful business owner, Trump will inject some common sense into our economic policies
We're supposed to welcome illegal Mexicans into our country when Mexico hands out pamphlets to their people on how to illegally hop the border and leech off of our tax dollars

I'm not saying I support the whole wall idea, but maybe we should have a wall?

>As a successful business owner, Trump will inject some common sense into our economic policies

This was ridiculous when Romney was running, and it's ridiculous now. Businesses don't exist to help their "employees" (which, if we're comparing it to a country, would be the citizens), they try to give their employees as little as possible while maximizing profits for the people at the very top. If that's what you want, then that's fine, but don't pretend that running a country like a business is a good thing for most of the country.

By raising high tariffs*, which will cause our trade partners to raise tariffs of their own, ultimately reducing US exports while simultaneously raising prices for consumers. So factory workers get fucked over, and people who rely on cheap consumer goods (probably about half the country) get fucked over.

*If you're going to make manufacturers move production back to the US, you have to make up for the gap between American and Chinese/Bangladeshi/Mexican/Vietnamese wages, which is massive

HAHAHAHAHA. Come on man. Trump is the biggest marxist behind Sanders.
>>
>>27121845

The last time we raised a big tariff on China (35 percent on tires), it added 1,200 jobs and cost US consumers more than 1 billion dollars in higher prices (most of that money didn't even end up going to the works). Then China put a new tariff on US chicken imports, costing exporters about 1 billion dollars.

It's not worth it, especially if you look to Trump's plan. He wants to put up a 45 percent tariff. On everything. It's madness. It didn't work when Congress tried it during the Great Depression, and it sure as hell wouldn't work now.

>>
>>27121897

You're confusing wanting personal responsibility with treating citizens like employees. Think about the company you work at (assuming that you're not a NEET). The company tries to get away with giving its workers the bare minimum to prevent strikes or riots, and works them to the bone because the people have no other choice. What are they going to do? Leave?

>people who choose to sit on their asses and collect welfare checks

These people make up a tiny minority of welfare recipients.

>People leech off of welfare because they're too lazy to find jobs

That's not the beast we're staring down. The place we're getting to thanks to automation is one where people will be unemployed because they're not employable at all; there's just no work for them to do. I mean, if you look at the kinds of jobs that are "stolen" by illegal immigrants and the poor fucks working sweatshops in other countries, those don't exist in the US because they can't exist in a place which demands minimum wages and labor laws. Those jobs only exist when there are people open to exploitation to work them, and frankly, the business class is just waiting for the robots to get good enough that they can cut labor costs entirely. But in the meantime, illegals who won't go to law enforcement with complaints and who will accept shit wages are the next best thing.

We'll probably have to look at the whole thing differently in the next 50-100 years. And if Trump's class of people have their way, the whole thing will be about them in palaces and the rest of us in tent cities.

>>27121701

There is an idea that goes around in America, tied to the common line, "I'm a social liberal but a fiscal conservative!" that if you want to improve the economy you vote red and if you want to improve society you vote blue, like choosing a build path in Starcraft, and it's a dangerously simplistic outlook.

What if we made up this gap by arming the populations of these countries with ideas and structures for unions and other socialist institutions that would make their labor classes more capable of standing up to the capitalist class, raising their wages and making us more competitive while improving the lives of innumerable people both in the present and in the future?

And it's not like the dominant class on the planet will resist having its power and infrastructure torn away or anything. Best of all, if we do that, it will solve all of our current problems within a few months and lead to prosperity for everyone! We'll all consume most of the worlds resources indefinitely, and together!

What a great plan! Why didn't anyone else in history ever think of that?
>>
>>27122035

Just calling it "the People's Republic" doesn't make it one; Stalin said communist but walked tyrant. If workers are still so downtrodden in these places they're pretty clearly not the socialist paradises they're stated to be.

If you want to know what that looks like, try Europe. You'd never find a sweatshop in Germany.
>>
>>27121971
I sure don't, but I fail to see more government regulation as an exit strategy. In fact, I'm not de-facto opposed to government intervention, but I feel that both Sanders and Trump are pretty vague on the actual policies and only claim for the executive to do "more" (with them in charge).
I won't event argue the rest of the program because the rest of the candidates (except some few like McAfee) seems worse, but the economic policy seems like a blank check, and that's the recipe for disaster.
>>
>>27122099
>Just calling it "the People's Republic" doesn't make it one

The point I was trying to make is that socialism is an ideal that just doesn't work in reality. You would need a post-scarcity society and/or massive, rapid social change unlike anything ever seen in human history to make it work.

>If you want to know what that looks like, try Europe. You'd never find a sweatshop in Germany.

That's because Germany isn't socialist. It's a capitalist country that has generous welfare programs, the workers don't own the means of production.
>>
>>27122095
>We'll all consume most of the worlds resources indefinitely

This is what the ruling class is doing right now anyway so that's a wash.

To be fair, Trump's tariff policy would generate a lot of money for the federal government. It wouldn't outweigh all the negative consequences, but it's better than what most Republicans are pushing ("we're gonna expand the military and cut taxes without touching medicare or social security because old people vote").
>>
>>27122180

>>
>>27122137

It's definitely socialist-leaning, though, that's the way the people are heading, and these are some of the best places to live in the world. They're not made up, either, they're real places that real people live. It's not an infinitely distant ideal, it's reachable. That could be every place, if only the people would work toward it.

Yes, because it's the federal government that needs money, not the millions upon millions of citizens in personal debt for things like medical care and education, right?

Either fortunately or unfortunately, the president won't do fucking SHIT because congress and scotus exist, and congress at the very least does what their bosses tell them to do. People not being in debt or terrified of getting sick without insurance make for less devout workers.
>>
>>27122137
Well, I'm anti-socialist for the social liberties aspect, but I find it hard to decide that "socialism doesn't work in reality".

In a competitive environment like USA vs USSR socialism might not work, even if we clear the fact that most of the world was actually with capitalism so it was an uneven match, the truth is that even in equal conditions socialism might erode from the inside.
But actually comparing the basic life conditions in cuba and the rest of equivalent states (mexico, haiti, puerto rico, etc), we see that socialism has achived some things.
I think we should take the good things (and only the good things).
>>
>>27122180
>Trump's tariff policy would generate a lot of money for the federal government

the tariff thing is really shaky

everybody compares every proposition for tariffs to smoot-hawley, which is retarded and I don't believe is the sole cause of the depression like conservatives and al gore say.

But if you impose tariffs you have to acknowledge beforehand that along with whatever security it offers to the American independent economy (which is not a thing anymore), international trade will definitely take a hit and it's possible that it could cause economic damage.

Although this sounds a lot worse when you say it than we would ever realize. A lot of people don't know that America right now is richer than it has ever been, and is richer than any country in the history of the world. It's just impossible to know because the wealth is so concentrated and kept out of society. I think that's what's causing so much extremism now. And tariffs are not as important as overhauling the concept of free trade so that it's not centered around the exploitation of third world slave labor.

No, they aren't. The CDU/CSU still controls the chancellor's office, and the fact that the SPD chose to form a coalition with the conservatives instead of Die Linke and the Greens shows that there's not exactly some grand socialist tide rising in Germany.

>That could be every place, if only the people would work toward it.

I doubt it. Every country's circumstances are different. Generous welfare states only work in mostly homogeneous countries, when you have a lot of different ethnic groups you run into the problem of people not wanting to give their money to "those people". I don't think it's a coincidence that the most anti-welfare states in the nation (Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina) have the highest black populations.

Distribution matters. What fucking good is that wealth, then? What is it doing? The people who control this wealth are also only American in title; these are global elites, not nationalists, and they don't give a fuck about any singular group of people.

I can't believe people think Trump, a known globalist tycoon, actually gives even the slightest shit about the US. I think this is still mostly a really clever publicity campaign for his future endeavors; no one is going to forget Trump ran in this election for a good while.

That's a limitation of imagination on the parts of those people, especially in the south where the cultures between those two groups are far more similar than they are different; a white person in Alabama has way more in common with the black dudes there than he does with me. I'm white, but I live in a city and I'm well-educated.

It's a split that runs on inertia from slavery propaganda and just hasn't stopped yet, but it needs to stop if America's going to make it in the long term. The gap between me and those Alabama white dudes also needs to shrink.

that's backwards actually

when the rich elites think (or in our case know) that they have an unlimited pool of dispensable labor, low skill or no no skill labor is virtually worthless. This could actually apply to anything if there's a line of willing immigrants and an immigration policy that is hospitable to them.

The US is feeding off of the brain drain of other countries, but has no mobility itself. What's to say your college degree is worth anything if there are 10 unemployed Rajeeshs with roughly the same qualifications eagerly waiting to replace you for less?

the kinds of jobs you can put illegals to work on are fairly limited and tend to be jobs too shitty for americans to want to do anyway.

i do mean illegals though. legal immigrants can take jobs but that's a separate thing. of course outsourcing steals lots of jobs too.

We're taking in a lot more skillless immigrants than anybody realizes. I work in a warehouse and most of my coworkers are from Africa and Asia.

I think the "shitty illegals jobs" thing is propaganda too. It's not that Americans aren't willing to do the work, it's that they're not willing to do the work on contract for $4/hr.

Dailly reminder

Trade deficits are self-correcting. There is nothing wrong with having one. In the short-term a trade deficit implies you are getting things you want from the rest of the world, including infrastructure material, in the long run it means you get more foreign investment, if only in your financial markets.

What's bad is when everyone is trying to run trade surpluses concurrently. We call that mercantilism, we did it in the 1800s, some guy named Ricardo pointed out it is physically impossible and requires pushing everyone's wages down below the floor to even try and/or a tarrif war which ensures identical inflation on all trading sides and nothing beyond this, seeing that there is nothing stopping anyone from imposing a tarrif on imported goods. Hence, a tarrif can never result in an comparative advantage unless your trading partner allows it.

Doing both would result in stagflation.

And what do you think we're doing right now you moron? We're letting other countries fuck us, and for what purpose? Especially with fucking China and their currency manipulation.

Furthermore you're implying we need things from other countries when in the vast majority of cases we really don't. We're only trading with those countries because companies are using cheap slave labor to drive production costs down. Do you really think we need anything at all from Mexico?

Fuck off you shill. Globalism does not and will not ever work. You're right in that it does have a benefit, but the only people who benefit are the huge companies and insanely wealthy people. For most people in the US it's an extremely bad thing, especially so for the middle class.

>We're letting other countries fuck us, and for what purpose?

As I said, there is literally no problem with running a trade deficit. The US is and will remain at full employment for as long as the fund interest rates remain tied to the natural interest rate. A trade surplus would not result in new jobs, but it would result in a change in the composition of labor. Just to the extent that you like hard manual labor currently performed in chinese sweatshops, more than working in the service sector, you would want to go forth with that change.

>We're letting other countries fuck us, and for what purpose?

Autarky is possible but very, very costly. I think some guy tried to experiment and build a sandwich from scratch and it cost him something like $20.000.

>We're only trading with those countries because companies are using cheap slave labor to drive production costs down.

That's precisely it. When everyone exports what they have a comparative advantage at exporting and imports everything else, costs plummet and thus purchasing power rises.

>Globalism does not and will not ever work.

The only problem with economic globalization has to do with the distribution of income within a state. This can be dealt with with efficiency minimum wages and / or careful distributive policy.
>>
>>27123894
There IS a problem with the deficit because there's no reason to let it happen in the first place. Stopping that might not create new jobs at first, but it would stop our government from going bankrupt, and that surplus could go to things like infrastructure and education which will give jobs.

Tariffs will be adjusted according to what we can produce as a nation and how much of it. Nobody is suggesting complete autarky.

You're right that the prices of goods would go up, but when the country prospers so do its people. I'm willing to pay a couple extra hundred for the new iPhone7.87.42 if it means my countrymen are working and enjoying a better quality of life overall.

>The only problem with economic globalization has to do with the distribution of income within a state. This can be dealt with with efficiency minimum wages and / or careful distributive policy.

That's living in a fantasy land. If minimum wage is raised it will be used an excuse to raise prices with it. Companies are never going to willingly cut into their profit margin. That's also assuming these companies are charging the lowest price possible. Normally in a capitalistic society you'd have competition driving down prices, but that competition just doesn't exist when you have huge corporations like globalism is leading to. How can anybody even compete with walmart at this point.

Don't get me started on the distributive policy. We need less people being depending on the government not more.

> there's no reason to let it happen in the first place.

Sure there is, we import the things we import, because we actually want them.

>it would stop our government from going bankrupt

A trade deficit can not result in a bankrupcy. It's very difficult, and even the possibility is debated, for a country in control of its monetary policy, issuing debt in that currency, to go bankrupt. Even if it weren't, a trade deficit would not be the mechanism by which it would happen, since trade deficits are self-correcting.

>but when the country prospers so do its people.

Prices going up, people laboring in hard manual jobs and wages going down, is not how people prosper, and by extension, it's not how countries prosper.

>if it means my countrymen are working and enjoying a better quality of life overall.

I just don't understand the mechanism you are implying here. Bringing iPhone production here will displace some jobs but it won't create extra jobs, there is a natural unemployment level you can't go below without triggering an inflationary crisis. In the process of bringing it here, and owing to the general uselessness of tarrif competition, you'd have to lower your unit labor costs to a level analogous to that of chinese labor. That doesn't sound like a recipe to improve the life of our countrymen.

> If minimum wage is raised it will be used an excuse to raise prices with it.

We have empirical evidence that this doesn't actually happen. See for example "the effect of minimum wage on prices" Lemos 2004.

I can explain exactly why higher minimum wages do not cause either disemployment or inflation in excess of the income gains if you want me to. In short, the literature has found that the primary channel of adjustment for the marginal cost increases caused by higher min. wages is pay compression (raising the relative wages of low wage workers along with their real wages).

>We need less people depending on the government

Why? What's wrong with a NIT, say?

Donald Trump actually has many left-leaning economic policies, and he's come out with a few statements, I think I heard something about his stance on Planned Parenthood and Obamacare that wasn't ridiculing them or something, but at this point, I'm not sure about anything. The point is, Adolf was the same. He was socially conservative, so his economic policies were lost in the garbage of butthurt idiots and their jargon. Trump is the least worst. Nobody is saying he's the best, but his border policies are no bullshit: immigration is a big issue and he stays stedfast on the track to success. It will open up a big void in the economy, deporting all the illegals, and the American people will have to fill that void. Hopefully in the process, hard work and respect get injected back into the populous. People who hate on him just make his point. He is successful because he knows what he is doing. I don't think he'll win, unfortunately, because Hillary and the rest of them going at him pretty hard. We'll just wait and see.
But these kinds of retards that just whine and complain about shit, the relativist betas you see in the video: they are an effect, not the cause. They are beyond salvation.
