Hey /r9k/, what are your thoughts on gambling? Like poker, blackjack and stuff like that
I am thinking about starting to play online poker at pokerstars, but I'm not sure. What are your thoughts robots? Is it possible to make a living by gambling? Share your tboughts
I watched documentaries about people who make a living from gambling. Being an autist who has a knack for memorizing things and a strong mathematical background, but being shit at everything else, I was hoping I could make some money through it. After doing a little research, I found it was not worth the time.
it is possible to make a living but you've got to realize literally everyone playing there kinda knows how to play, everyone at least read some articles and knows the basics
it's the small stuff which decides if you win or not in the end, so small it's almost impossible to learn by reading books
so expect to lose a lot before you actually start winning on regular basis
honestly the only ones who currently seem to win at microstakes are super tight players, going in only with AA, AK, KK and maybe but not always with QQ
winning at microstakes is basically boring as fuck and its more like wageslaving than actually playing poker

Any form of gambling that is not poker is burning money.
You cannot make a living playing online poker anymore. Not unless you treat it as a job and work at it extremely hard for years. I've been playing poker fairly casually for a few years and I devoted last summer purely to playing and studying online poker. I've come to realise that there is an insane amount of knowledge and experience needed to become good at it, along with a very solid mental game (you need to completely remove all emotions from your game, which is easier said than done).
My first year of uni I was failing hard because I had the attitude that if I dropped out I could always become a professional poker player. Luckily I realised that wasn't a possibility and I sorted my studies out before it was too late.
Focus on your education first and foremost, and play some poker on the side as a hobby. I'm happy to answer any questions about online poker/pokerstars as I have a decent amount of experience there.
I don't really gamble.
I like gambling anime and manga though.

in the amount of time it takes to become a winning player at poker you can just become a web dev or software dev without earlier training
