Personally I believe serious mental disorders like BPD are like the equivalent severe physical disorders. Mentally retarded can't get anything more than a blue-collared job, crippled people can't run or do physical work; severe mentally ill people shouldn't have kids or get into serious, long-standing relationships. It's a horrible world view, but I've been in so many group therapy sessions for borderlines, bi-polars, schizos, etc that it's pretty much true.
