I wonder what BART is going to do with it's old rolling stock once the new cars come in? if I had the money, I'd probably buy a few of the cars, strip out most of the insides, and build my dream

I wouldn't be so sure about that. there are plenty of sites online for buying old rolling stock, even prominent commuter railroads like the LIRR sell their stuff to people sometimes. although buying a functioning EMU will probably be much more expensive than a standard rail car, would probably need to win the lottery or something

You can buy old freight stock. You're not buying old EMUs. They'll gut them out for parts if they can use them, if their system isn't proprietary they'll sell them off to another railroad, all that failing they'll donate one to some museum and scrap the rest.

they do have a non standard track and loading gauge, so they will probably be gutted and scrapped. who knows though, maybe it would be possible to get just the shell plus maybe the bogies and wheels. that's really all I would want, don't need the motors, brakes, any of that. once they're in place, they wouldn't be going anywhere

It fucking sucks if it's the Amtrak, those fucking seats are made of concrete and spikes. The BART is comfortable though. It's so passive, you just sit there and enjoy the ride. Same for the metro trains, you ride them like buses in San Fran, and one even goes by the NEET cultural center.

the new trains are gonna have hard seats I think, easier to clean. also probably less seats, they want to focus on standees and bike passengers (and as a frequent bike user, I support this)
