Na fuck that

Technology has progressed massively since then. I can obtain and store things in a way that 2004 couldn't dream of.

We currently live in a world where you can unironically turn off your lights and turn on your hotpocket cooker without leaving the safety of your shit encrusted chair

2013 seems like a bad year for everyone, had a childhood friend rip my heart out that year and lost my business

lost my second job because my boss divorced her husband and just dropped the company as fast as possible so it collapsed
>>
2005 was the best year of my childhood by far

I was 10 and all I cared about was listening to the shitty emo-pop-punk that was popular at the time, reading manga/watching anime, and playing vidya. also I was very outgoing as a child so friends came easy. It was a time when I loved my family to death.

now i'm a depressed 20-year-old with a shitty relationship with I'd say 80% of my family. I'm also a sheltered recluse, so that certainly doesn't help anything

I haven't felt that childlike wonder since trying MDMA for the first time

PC had some amazing and groundbreaking releases. PS1 revolutionized console gaming and multiple brand new genres

2004 was only 1 year before the fucking Xbox 360 for christ sake. Not even remotely close to the golden era.

grad-jamacated high school in 2005. i agree that the early 2000's were a semi-golden era of the internet. the last 3 years of HS were the peak of my depression, yet at that time, i felt i had a chance to beat all this crap in my head. i almost miss being that naive. the "good" side was that high school for me was just about fucking around all day with my friends and going home. rinse, repeat, until graduation.

i'm a year shy of 30 and what sucks the most is i did not want to end up like so many of the other pot smoking deadbeats from my small town, so i focused on career stuff trying to make something of myself from the get go. well, due to depression blah blah blah, i've spent the last 10 years being tired and i'm about to give up and become a bum.

the damnedest thing at 10+ years later is it got me thinking: ya know...maybe those pot smokers i went to highschool with just were on to something when they just chilled in life and smoked a blunt.

this is just capitalism at work. once an industry starts getting bigger they start appealing to the masses and everything gets diluted, more expensive games = less risk = constant sequels and generic shit. few can compete in the AAA space anymore

>PS1/PS2 era
>PS1: 2MB ram, 1MB gpu
>PS2: 32MB ram, 4MB gpu
Just imagine if they made games to the same kinds of proportion today. a 4GB DVD/4MB is a 1024x conversion between content and gpu capability. Even if you compressed 10x, that'd be ~100x. Now you get maybe 20GB games at the highest end, with 1-3GB GPUs. The proportion of games that are solely graphics, and much shorter as a result, is disastrous.

It reminds me of something probably last year, when some RPG was being described as long when it had a 20 hour playtime. I remember when RPGs had a minimum playtime of 40 hours, and that was without grinding or much backtracking. If you were one of "those" people that actually wanted to explore everything, you could easily go over 100 hours.

Nowadays the only games that go over 40 hours are the social anxiety simulators (MMOs) or Autism simulators (multiplayer FPS and "crafting" games)
>>
>>24631883
I was 17 and about five years into an on and off cycle of depression and social anxiety that has basically gutted my life, living in a country that isn't America, meaning I couldn't go to the corner store and get a monthly supply of drugs to escape feeling with and actually get on with my life.

The golden age for me was a few months during the second grade when for the first time we had lived in a place long enough for me to make friends and I spent a good month going out bike riding and fucking around with friends after school and having fun. It was easily the most carefree time of my life. Then my parents got divorced and we moved around a lot and basically didn't settle down into a place till the 9th grade of highschool. The glorious teenage years that people often talk about where nothing but isolation, dropping out of school, going back, dropping out again, and building up a heavy dependence on alcohol to "deal" with anxiety and escapism. Worst part if my younger sibling stayed with one of the parents and basically had a stable as fuck upbringing and is now earning easy, big money but due to lack of any real hardship is basically an eternal teenager that can afford expensive party drugs and holidays clubbing overseas.

Pisses me off that so many people basically had an easy run of it, don't understand that some people struggle just being around people and that being in a workplace with others leaves them so mentally exhausted that at the end of the day they are mentally drained from dealing with shit that people don't think twice about. The worst part is that these obvious people are always the first to complain loudly when they are made to do something uncomfortable in their lives. Yeah, try feeling like I felt every fucking day will slowly going nowhere for years, you fucking cunt.

/rant over.

Emo culture was the shit, vidya was arguably the best then (even though it was easier) and TV was the best (Malcolm in the Middle being my fav).

Today's culture is horrible. It's dead. It's filled with nothing but degenerates. I wish It was 2004 forever (but with technology advancing)
Plus internet culture was just beginning and wasn't poisoned by normies yet. I even miss MySpace since people actually used it for dating and what not and not to poison up the rest of the internet.

He probably means like, actually easier to get into and play versus Autistic toiling and paying out the ass (if we're talking pay-to-win games).

In some sense, a game that tries to challenge you based on improving AI, complicating gameplay, and having more to remember is easier than a game that just sets the AI resource gain or reflexes to 10x

2004 was the tail end of the golden age of video games. Late 90's was the middle.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_in_video_gaming

There are many games here that would win GOTY easily.

>2002 was objectively the peak of video games
Going to cite any examples? It's hard to differentiate between hipsters who were born in the early 2000s and actual legit people with bad taste and/or poor memories.

>Miss being that much in love with a person
She meant so much to me. Now she's half the world away working on a PhD in Legal Psychology and has another guy making her happy, whom she's been with for longer than we were. I could never be what he is to her.
