A bit. Becoming faster with better execution with playing the bass and doing better with sight reading bass cleft without needing to look at my fingers too much. Though I can't say I have had much hand movement up the frets so I hope I can expand where I place my hands going up and down while still not needing to look at where they are.

Also getting better with slap bass, but nowhere where I'd like to be.

No I am not going to learn Japanese. Maybe Spanish if I push myself.

If anyone actually wants to learn languages in a non-shit way, I recommend Michel Thomas courses.

Search whatever torrent site you use for "Michel Thomas V3" and pick the folders for whatever languages you want.

Its very good for Latin-based and Germanic languages, i.e. languages of the civilized world. They have moonspeak chink and sandnigger courses too but I haven't tried them because I'm not a weeb.

Basically it actually trains you how to express your thoughts by letting you construct sentences, rather than just getting you to parrot back set phrases. This is easy for Latin and Germanic languages because English is a mixture of those languages and so has a lot of words in common which you can use as basic building blocks while learning the grammar.

But yeah there's no point in learning Japanese, at their rate of population decline its going to die out within a few generations anyway.

I tried some years ago. Kept it up for a little over a year, but I never got to that point where you start to just "get it" and things fit together in your mind. It never stopped being "I have to think about every single word very carefully" difficult. maybe I'm just not one of those people that has a thing for languages

It's going pretty good for self study. I just do it for fun in my off time.. maybe an hour or so every other day. I've got all of my hiragana down and will be working on kanji and katakana soon. The difference I guess is that I'm doing this just strictly for fun/as a hobby and not with any real goal in mind and doing so makes it much more enjoyable and easier.

I'm the 2006 JLPT1 guy, and it's true. When you begin studying French (as a native English speaker), you're already halfway "there" because the languages are so similar. With Japanese, you start from scratch.
Sure, someone who has passed JLPT1 understands more Japanese than someone who has never studied French before understands French... but expressing yourself? In Japanese? That's a whole 'nother ball game. Only a tiny minority of learners ever get there.
>>
It's a stupid language to study. I did and I regret putting time in it. Japanese know English and they're very racist too. You're better off learning a useful language. I did it to read manga and stuff but never got to there I guess I sort of can but don't care anymore not such a weeaboo anymore.

Yeah no shit, international travel is expensive, and Japan's an expensive country.

But the classes themselves are relatively cheap, and they're affiliated with a cheap hotel in the area (at least the Kobe one is).

There are programs that are $10,000 not including airfare and food.

It's coming up along.

Still, I feel pretty out with rest of 4channers that use Anki and the like. I never could remember kanji just based around visual repetition. I went for writing kanji drills that actually made me remember the kanji, but they take a long time (daily) to complete. The success rate is high tho, as I don't forget neither the meaning nor the stroke order of a kanji I've practiced on. According to my tracking I know 738 kanji, all learnt this way. For grammar I went with Tae Kim.
I'm taking JLPT N3 in a couple of weeks. I feel confident I'll pass.

Yeah, flash cards are silly and autistic, the best way to learn them is through actually reading and writing them in context.

Also everyone should know the radicals by the time they're at an intermediate level.

I don't know what those lads are even saying, I don't think they have actually taken a JLPT test at all.

Passing JLPT N1 is quite difficult and requieres dedication to at least grind kanji and vocabulary. It is a multiple choice exam, so It doesn't test writing nor speaking capabilities, but If you're able to pass it's grammar section (that tests grammar structures even some japanese people couldn't pass), vocabulary (up to 2180 kanji), and listening (daily to scientific/philosophic conversations) then It can be assumed you can speak and write the language at a proeficient level.

You can still cheat the system though, It's an standirezed multiple choice exam so you can take a crash course on It and maybe pass it.

t. N2 holder
>>
>>24429690
Most serious language tests will test listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I thought the JLPT was the most respected, rigorous test for Japanese.

In any subject, you should be able to produce original content and ideas to show you really understand the material.

It is the most respected and the most rigorous. You're not wrong.

Most jobs in Japan require at least N2 and prefer a N1. If you don't have one of those JLPT certificates then your only option in being an english teacher.

I can't afford to study at collage. The idea of getting a student loan goes against my morals. Even if got a loan I still need to work fulltime to pay for my rent, car, bills and stomach meds.
But I really want to learn graphic design/animation and get a job in it field eventually. So I've download all the software and using online tutorial videos and books I spend a few hours each day learning. I want to build a animation portfolio then send it around to production houses for jobs or even start doing my own web cartoon series. So far I can ridge and do some cool camera tracking stuff in Flash and Toon Boom. And my painting skills in photoshop and corel painter have improved a lot over the past year. Now I don't see the reason to got to school when there are so many free and professional tutorials online today. Some people have told me I've learned more skills in 4 months then they did in their first years of design school. That being said it would be awesome to have a teacher you could just ask immediately when you have a problem rather then asking message boards and waiting for replies.

>>
>>24429973
Getting a job in Japan other than English teacher is hard anyway. The Japanese can find Japanese people to fill any position they need.

Also, like it or not, the chances for serious career advancement for a non-Japanese person are limited.
>>
>>24429850
Just because N1 is "difficult", it doesn't mean an N1 holder is proficient. I've passed both the old and the post-2010 reformed ikkyuu exams, and it still feels like I know nothing.
