Call of Duty reaching massive commercial success early in the gaming generation and setting the trend for maximum greed and minimum effort. Feminism has further driven the stake into it now. The Golden Age of gaming is dead, nothing is made with love anymore, just for money.

I got into grad school, broke up with a high-maintenance girlfriend, discovered 4chan, moved out of my parents' basement, made a whole bunch of new friends, and found purpose in life again.
2005 is when everything started to go downhill for me. Everything before that was golden.
I started visiting 4chan in 2008. No doubt that it's had a negative effect on me for last 7 years.
I'm guessing most people on here are in their early 20's, which means 2007 was around the time we were coming into our teenage years. our childhoods were ending, and we never become the happy, productive adults we thought we were going to be.
I started middle school in 2007. now I'm a depressed 20-year-old with no motivation, jaded to the point of no return. the weird thing is- I was an outgoing child. puberty (ie- the dreaded 2007-2009 years everyone hates) completely changed that.
I'm guessing many of you have a similar story. which is way 2007 probably seems like the last good year for you all.

Before that if you were on a BBS, or IRQ, or even just a specific forum even in the early 2000s, you could be pretty sure the other people on there were nerdy dudes like yourself. Generally no one else would bother.
I'm probably 10 years older than the average poster on here, but I don't have many fond memories of my junior high days or any of that shit. Though I'd probably give a couple fingers to play Half-Life for the first time again.
Simply put, advances in internet speed and better user interfaces, spam filters and virus protection, has opened this shit up to the general public, and nerds miss the days when they more or less had the run of it. There's not much a barrier to entry anymore.
Even if you're 20 now, you probably have some hint of those days.

I think a major reason is that a good portion of us were born in the mid-late 80s and the early 90s, and 2007 was when reality began to hit a lot of us, especially coupled with the recession, decline of video games, and normalfagization of the internet.
