It's not? I don't think of it this way.

80s-2000 were the Golden Age of History and the best time to be alive in a developed country
2001 was the earthquake
2008 was the aftershock

Other than that, Zuckerberg killed the Internet.
>>
>>24144139
1) Real estate crash

2) Troop surge in Iraq

3) Economy completely tanked

4) World banking literally almost collapsed in on itself (Ron Paul actually advocated that we let it happen)

More people were broke, out of work, playing in the sand than ever before.
>>
>>24145521
>80s-2000 were the Golden Age of History and the best time to be alive in a developed country

It was the Golden Age of all things pop culture. 80s-early 2000s had an okay economy, but in terms of living standards the best era was the 50s.
>>
The year reddit became popular.
>>
Are we talking about real life 2007 or 4chan 2007?

Either way, both real life and 4chan were shitholes long before 2007. That has been suffering since the beginning of time.
>>
The first smartphones became available to the masses. Every normie pleb and every child had one and the internet was accessible at any time anywhere. They slowly began to infiltrate every aspect of internet culture and kill anything remotely funny when they caught wind of it.

Call of Duty reaching massive commercial success early in the gaming generation and setting the trend for maximum greed and minimum effort. Feminism has further driven the stake into it now. The Golden Age of gaming is dead, nothing is made with love anymore, just for money.
>>
>>24145585
I didn't hear of reddit until 2010/2011 or so, I don't think it was all that popular in 2007. No one on 4chan even mentioned reddit then.
>>
I guess there never any point in being born into this shitty time.

At least that's what I remember from 2007; but I was also a 13 year old Runescape and World of Warcraft playing /b/tard with no father figure.
So whatever.

It really was the uprising use of the open internet which brought us down as a whole. With it everyone could get connected to another and you know what happens when dumb people with dumb ideologies get together. The 7th year is always the year shit changes and is kind of like where the transition into the next decade begins. The same thing happened in 87/97 and will happen in 2017 (hopefully our Cyber Punk dystopia occurs)

As for 2007:
>Nerd culture became cool
>First iphone
>CoD4 became popular

Probably more, somebody should make a full list.

Last good year? For me it was the start of the good years.
I got into grad school, broke up with a high-maintenance girlfriend, discovered 4chan, moved out of my parents' basement, made a whole bunch of new friends, and found purpose in life again.
>>
2005 is when everything started to go downhill for me. Everything before that was golden.
>>
I started visiting 4chan in 2008. No doubt that it's had a negative effect on me for last 7 years.
>>
I'm guessing most people on here are in their early 20's, which means 2007 was around the time we were coming into our teenage years. our childhoods were ending, and we never become the happy, productive adults we thought we were going to be.

I started middle school in 2007. now I'm a depressed 20-year-old with no motivation, jaded to the point of no return. the weird thing is- I was an outgoing child. puberty (ie- the dreaded 2007-2009 years everyone hates) completely changed that.

I'm guessing many of you have a similar story. which is way 2007 probably seems like the last good year for you all.
>>
>>24148190
I started college in 1999, and I agree with the others that things started changing for the worse in 2007.
>>
I became depressed in January 2008 when I first discovered 4chan.
I never even thought of myself as a virgin before that.

2007 was the ramping up of facebook for the general public.

Social media made the internet not the realm of the nerd, but opened it up to everyone.

Before that if you were on a BBS, or IRQ, or even just a specific forum even in the early 2000s, you could be pretty sure the other people on there were nerdy dudes like yourself. Generally no one else would bother.

I'm probably 10 years older than the average poster on here, but I don't have many fond memories of my junior high days or any of that shit. Though I'd probably give a couple fingers to play Half-Life for the first time again.

Simply put, advances in internet speed and better user interfaces, spam filters and virus protection, has opened this shit up to the general public, and nerds miss the days when they more or less had the run of it. There's not much a barrier to entry anymore.

Even if you're 20 now, you probably have some hint of those days.

I don't think that at all.
Personally it's in my top 3 '00 years.

>Temped for most of the year, always had spending money usually (if not always the desired amount)

>Met new people
>Went to a fair few gigs

If I'd bagged myself a gf, it would be my personal best year of the '00s.

Because it's when 4chan started to get popular. People came here for the ebin Habbo raids and the Fox LA news report about "Anonymous", which started the legionfaggotry that lead to an even greater cancer, Chanology.

>>
I think a major reason is that a good portion of us were born in the mid-late 80s and the early 90s, and 2007 was when reality began to hit a lot of us, especially coupled with the recession, decline of video games, and normalfagization of the internet.

That was the golden age.

4chan came at the end of the golden age for the brief silver age where the Internet was becoming more accepted, but the masses rarely spent any amount of time there. That was the time of the forum goers, the channers, the geosites, ROMs and MIDIs were everywhere.

Then came Xanga, then MySpace, then FaceBook, and with it, the masses of normies that heralded the end of an age.
