Good fuck I cannot imagine working a job like this for more than a few minutes. Working at a busy restaurant full time must be beyond a nightmare. I worked full time as a night security guard and my biggest struggle was fighting off sleep, and even that I couldn't do

Food isn't so bad once you get used to the routine and how shit works. I wouldn't work there again since you have to deal with people.

I work in a major shipping warehouse and its easy as fuck. A lot of downtime where I just stand around and space out. I don't get along with some coworkers but I have a few I can small talk with so it isn't too bad.

>>24071766
Not really. What was hell was having to work there 5+ hours PER DAY including WEEKENDS. But even that was nothing compared to your bosses getting mad at your for doing nothing when you're not getting customers but you've already completed all the jobs for that day. At that point it's literally kitchen wipedown going at a snails pace #339 for the day.
>>
>>24071766
I used to get really fucking stressed when it got busy back when I worked at a restaurant. I could deal with the orders no problem but I would just completely shut down and not talk to anyone after the rush.

Working at a restaurant really opened my eyes to how much of an asshole I really am and I fucking hate it.

I would gladly take working as a line cook than retail or waiting tables or anything with speaking to strangers.

>>
>>24071913
At first working at a restaurant, you feel and are literally fucking useless.

You need to get the hang of everything and it will become somewhat easier.
>>
>>24071766
same:

>>24071846

when it comes to food, it makes people extra demanding and anxious and in hurry and picky and selfish and generally in a bad mood.

I actually briefly worked a job that involved collecting and cleaning plastic trays at the food court of a shopping mall, and also cleaning the mirrors and sinks of washrooms but not the toilets themselves, and stress-wise it was just so much better. Unfortunately it was just like 3 hours a day and also the place was dead so it was just me and my 50+ year-old co-workers standing around in silence.

I seriously want to work as a one-man janitor but I never see anything listed in my local job websites nor do I know which companies I should apply to.

When they do that they're actually hoping to get fired. Also that's the reason most fast food workers will be buzzed with narcotics or alcohol during a shift, it helps pass the time and take away the pain of having to work there.

Kinda. It's hard, and you have to deal with people and their problems, it's not like any store where someone buys buillshit and moves on, they come here, ask you about a lot of shit, they tell you their problems and even ask your for advice about unrelated shit. Bread. I worked at a not-Subway sandwich place. They advertised that their bread was "baked fresh everyday!" and that was such a huge lie. Literally everyday we would either intentionally use last night's bread, left on the bread rack and not frozen or anything, to make catering orders at like 8 in the morning 3 hours before the store was actually opened or have to take out frozen bread from unmarked bags in the middle of the day because we'd run out of bread for the afternoon/evening shift. Then the evening shift would always have too much bread at night and leave it out overnight and repeat the cycle.

Oh and we'd make salads maybe like once a week.

These spoiled fucks are also left alone by management most of the time.

I used to work for this dying pizza chain and it was the first comfy job of all the jobs I've ever had. Hardly anyone ever ordered shit, shit was simple to make, got along with the manager and coworkers where we could just fuck around and cook the stores food for free.

>Getting called in early so people can leave early

Oh no I meant that I would be the one guy to be called in early for the morning shift besides the manager, and the other people working the day shift would work like 3-4 hours and get a nice lunch break, and then when it was my time to leave at 5 I would usually get a phone call saying "hey uh bro imma be late a bit aight?" and them showing up 45 minutes late or "hey uh bro I have a thing I can't come in bye" and I'd end up working 12+ hour shifts.

I couldn't even sleep in on weekends either because I'd constantly get phone calls that "so and so is not feeling well (he or she is hungover from being a Friday/Saturday night normie) and can't come in" at like 9 am.

I'm actually sort of grateful that the new piece of shit owners fired me, working at McDonalds would actually be a step up now.

>>
>>24071865
Ha, I have a linesman who was like this for a long time. It took him a good 6 months to break out of it. I was the sous chef at the time. I tried all manner of coaching to no avail. Finally I would position myself next to whatever station he was on or if it was a 2 person station I would work with him. I would remain calm and crank, shit out through rush with him and just small talk and help him break down his station. After a solid month of that he began to loosen up. I was able to slowly space myself from him and he was able to function without my help.

I'm the exe. Chef now he has made his way as one of my sous. Out of all of the restaurants I consider him to be top 3 sous chef.

i work at Mcdonalds on the Las Vegas strip and we are definitely underpaid.
the other city block Mcdonalds, they are shit, fuck them unless they are the busiest locations in the city, they don't got SHIT on tourist spots.

in my job you don't ever get to stop moving, you get two 10 minute breaks and if you take too long the customer and the manger both give you a hard time at the same time.
80% of the customers don't speak english, 20% of the customers are heavily intoxicated and/or hookers (its Las Vegas).
the customer can treat you any way they feel like and i've even been disrespected by muslin and indian kids and i've heard anti-american slurs directed at us.

idk about Subway, but again our store was all high and might about how everything was so fucking fresh especially the salads.

The way we made them was pretty awful as well. We'd get entire heads of Romaine lettuce that would already be half-rotten by the time we got to using them and we were supposed to have one of those lettuce-spinning things that you use to dry off lettuce after you rinse it, but the one we had was broken for about... 7 years... so every thing of salad that we made once a week was filled with like an inch or two of water and just sat there.

I used to think that working at that local sandwich/fast food place was the right thing because muh globalization and we got to look out for the local businesses but jesus man Subway and McDonalds are a step up for both the customers and employees.

It was $11.25 an hour and I was put on a 60 day probation period where I would get a $75 raise upon passing. Made it to about 45 days before just not showing up anymore.

The work dealt with clothing, shoes, and random sporting goods. You have your own area and with empty boxes where you place a certain amount of items and have tohit a button so it registers what amount goes where. You also have to do a certain amount within a time frame which is very stressful. I didn't get along with coworkers either which made it even more shitty.
>>
>>24072499
Yeah, that's literally it. All the workers get with their respective managers every morning and after lunch and do a series of stretches. After lunch we also review safety guidelines (Amazon has a serious hardon for safety in their warehouses) and people can share their personal "success stories". If someone doesn't volunteer they WILL call on people.

The entire thing is gay as hell but you absolutely need to stretch regularly if you're gonna be working in one of their warehouses. They expect you to be on your feet for the entire ten hour shift, only stopping on breaks. There are no chairs or benches in the warehouse outside the break rooms, and if they catch you sitting on the floor you will be reprimanded. The average order picker walks about twelve miles a day at these warehouses.

Honestly, find a job at a restaurant.

Work as a line cook and you can probably learn how to cook your own meals.

Seriously, you don't really learn any useful life skills from working at retail save for controlling your temper when dealing with dumbfuckers

i worked at the home depot briefly, it was awful.

i had to do some training but the computers didnt work so they just sent me out into the store. i had no idea what the fuck i was doing or where anything was because the managers were missing and nobody gave me the initial walkthrough. my supervisor didnt know they had even hired me for his department. i "lost too many sales" because i couldnt explain much to old ladies and that was the end of that.
>>
>>24072726
This. I couldn't even get hired at a fucking dollar tree when I started working. I had to whore myself to temp agencies to even find a job because they'll hire anyone and honestly if you speak English you're already more qualified than half the spics and niggers who come in there looking for a job. I started out folding boxes in a fucking warehouse and I loved the job but my manager was an asshole and didn't like me because I didn't go in for the overtime he told me I didn't have to fucking come in for.

They won't let you listen to music most of the time. I've worked in Amazon warehouses twice now and electronics on the warehouse floor are strictly prohibited, cell phones included. You will get fired for having your phone on the warehouse floor. Dunno about any other companies but they're probably the same. Earbuds are a safety hazard since you can't hear what's going on around you either, but they give out free earplugs funnily enough.
>>
Working at a movie theater isn't so bad if you don't have trouble dealing with people. It's pretty easy, you even get to watch free movies on breaks or whenever. You could ask to be the one who cleans the theater if you don't wanna deal with being a cashier.
>>
>>24072961
It's twelve dollars an hour with benefits. I work there as a temp atm but I'll probably be hired for real after the holiday season. If you're a temp you get no benefits and the company will pass you over for a real employee for anything. Actual employees get bumped up to 13.50/hr after a few months and get shares in the company, and they'll even pay for you to go to college.

It really is brutal though. I can barely walk after my shift is done and I'm hungry all the time at work since I'm constantly burning calories.

I like, really hyped myself up for it, and then finally when it happened I just stuck my cannon-hard dick through the donut hole (it was a whole-wheat honey-glazed just FYI) and that was it. I just had a donut hanging on to my boner. It tried grabbing it with my hand to make it tighter and humped it a few times but it just broke apart, so I just got mad and ended up jerking with honey-glaze on my hand & dick.

I should've instead stacked a whole pile of donuts on my dick, like those ring-toss carnival games.

I love those chicken fries but out of curiosity, why do you hate when people ask for them? Is it some stupidly tedious task?
>>
I used to work at a Chick fil A and let me tell you it sucked. They had to general areas to work in "front line" which is basically just any position past the kitchen door and "kitchen" which is self explanatory. I worked front line. I am really uncoordinated and really slow at learning and they had me working on a cash register, the drive through register, dining room (which was basically wiping tables, cleaning the floor EXTREMELY thoroughly, cleaning the playground indoors, and cleaning both restrooms all while keeping condiment stand stocked.), or worst of all, "headset". Headset was a nightmare for anyone who has trouble multitasking and talking while doing actions. You had to talk to a customer, take their order on a register screen, and make the drinks associated with that order as you are talking and hitting buttons also, no stopping in between orders even if some fucker has a carload of kids wanting every flavor of milkshake and ice cream under the sun (that takes much more time to make because it's a multi step process) so I basically shut down the first time they put me there and I mean stopped cold froze up and dropped a Dr Pepper on the floor. The second time I took some guys order wrong and I seriously thought he was going to jump through the window and skull fuck me so I just got a manager and went to a register, then the third time I kept getting cup sizes wrong (cfa has like 5 different cups) so the managers just didn't put me on headset until like 6 months later but by then I was fed up and got a job at a Winn Dixie stocking shelves until 11pm (literally didn't have to say anything to anyone except "it's on aisle whatever") moral of the story, never, ever work in FAST food if you're a slow uncoordinated learner.
>>
>>24073676
I work at a McDicks and those little things piss me of as well.

I work at the register and it pisses me off when people say they want a milkshake or something else with their combo meal instead of the soda after they already ordered the meal. Also people not specifying what sauce they want with their nuggets and people who don't talk loud enough.

but if you have noisy sibilings/roommates/neighbors/parents or pets that will wake you up, it's not a great idea.

I did this as well. I just stopped giving a fuck. Even hooked people up with larger combos sometimes.

How do managers not catch this when counting down tills?
>>
>>24073839
Yeah we got blockbusters where I live in the vicinity is one 10 mins walk from my house 15 mins drive 20 mins drive there are quite a few in my state soon but I haven't bothered applying for a job at any of them cause I doubt I'd get hired since the current staff probably don't get hours as it is.

What would a job be like with just /r9k/ coworkers?

ooh I hate that shit. When you in a fastfood place and the old dude is staring down the cook and peaking over the counter and shit while monitoring his shitty pile of grease is being prepared for his massive 3 dollar investment. Fucking boomers

>Back in my day us fast food workers prepared only the finest food!
>Bought a house, car and raised his family off the mcdonalds paycheck

Holy shit, I didn't know this was a thing. Guess I'll be "that guy" from now on.

I feel this, anon. I guess since were sharing stories and all, I may as well share one from my work.

>be me
>work as courtesy clerk at a higher end grocery store
>an hour before I get to go home, a latino dude asks if I could watch his groceries for him while he gets his debit card from his car
"sure"
>15 minutes pass, no dude
>leave his basket at the end of a checkstand, tell a checker that a dude might be looking for his stuff soon
"is there any cold stuff in it?"
"no, I checked"
>5 minutes before my shift ends, I decide to put away the dude's groceries
>Turns out there was eggs on the bottom of the basket
>mfw
>>
>worked in fast food for several years
>fuck people I want a job with no people
>quit and get a job at a warehouse
>make good money but the work is grueling
>get injured and forced to quit
>I miss working with people but I don't miss the actual people
>get a job at a call center and dick off on the internet all day trying not to kill myself
>I miss talking to people face to face

Now I work at an oil change place, I know nothing about cars but the job is easy and the latest I can work is until 7 so it's alright. Pay sucks though.

As long as they didn't have to deal with too many customers I assume well enough. Most of the people ITT just want to keep their heads down and do their jobs so if you get a room full of them they'd probably work well enough with the right manager and not someone who will berate someone for not learning something right away.
>>
>There's a discount available
>Don't tell the customer
>>
Who clocks in exactly in and out on time? Like down to the minute?

Literally feels out of place if I clock in a minute early or late
>>
Don't worry most jobs will be taken over by robots so we only have to work these jobs for another 10-20 years.
>>
>>24073984
I hear that shit in my sleep too lol
>>
>>24072838

Yes to both of those things

Taxes are rape here like you wouldn't believe, also everything is ridiculously expensive, like our high wages don't cover it, a normal house is a million dollars minimum unless you want to live out in the middle of nowhere

Because they're by order. Nobody really orders them, so there's no point in making a big batch like the regular ones.

So it means I have to stop making the other orders and go into the fridge for some and fry them. really only gets me mad at peak hours desu.

>>24073907
I wish I worked at McDonald's instead, I feel like I'm a cheap imitation. Except I get Onion Rings :^)

When I worked register, it's like yeah ok you can switch it out fine..

What gets me mad is that they try to change their order once they've been charged.. that's like, just suck it up.

Then I have to get my manager and fix that shit..

Oh and when you charge them for the money and they're like "Oh, here's the X cents, so you can just give me bills" it's like no I charged you, I can't change it now..

>>24073919
>>24073970
Yeah, like the other anon said. it's mass produced.. not of the fryer anymore.
And it's true, some older people seem more entitled than others.

>>24073974
fuck off.
Some lady on drive thru today ordered her fish sandwiches on the big whopper bun. Like the bun matters, the meat is still the same size made for the other bread...
>>
So cooks, would you eat your own cooked fast food?
>>
>Get paid shit, but we also have a tip jar
>owner installs a charity box next to out tip jar without ever asking or telling us
>also he "encourages" us to to give our tip money to the charity.

I was saltier than the meat we served.
>>

>>
>>24071861
>5+ hours is too much
I was /10hoursdaily/.
>>
>>24073898
I've been on the register alone with nobody to bag orders for me or get fries/drinks for me with a line almost out the door.

If it happens again I'm just going to walk out and quit.
>>
You guys had to have atleast one coworker you got along with r-right?
>>
>>24074023
everyone here will clock out 8 minutes late so the the system rounds up an extra 15 minutes to your hours.
>>
>>24074082
She was a qt and I only got to have a shift in the same time slot once a week or so.
>>
>>24074040
Doesn't BK actually cook their food?

Here at McDicks they just take frozen patties and put them in an oven.
>>
>Manager scheduled your shift for 7:45 hours instead of 8 hours to remove that extra 15 minute break from your day
>>
>consultant in premium whole foods store
>90% of customers open up with "Is it fresh"
NO ITS FUCKING ROTTEN WITH PUS LEAKING JESUS CHRIST
>>
>>24074082
I get along with everyone, there's even a kinda qt hitting on me, but I'm too much beta and she's WAY too normie to even worth a try. I just hide my powerlevel very good and they think I have a social life.
>>
>>24074023
I worked at a local fast food place where we basically worked on the honour system and nobody had any fucking honor but me and like two other people.

We were supposed to show up like 5-10 minutes before our shift, so by the time the shift started on the hour we'd already be dressed and ready to go. instead people would show up like 10 past the hour and dick around on their phones for another 10 minutes and talk with other 16 year olds assholes in the back, and still sign in on time - and also leave early & sign out for later.

I would do the opposite, start to work early before my shift started and work after I had signed out as well. huuuuuge mistake.
>>
Why didn't you become a manager, anon? Too much responsibility to watch cooks flip burgers?
>>
>>24074118
>15 minute break
We get 10 minute breaks here
>>
>>24074118
I hate that shit
>shift begins at 10
>but you gotta be early for 5-minute briefing
>that actually begins at 9:40
>break is 1 hour but administrator starts glaring at me after 40 minutes like I raped his wife
>>
Nothing makes you appreciate a real job more than working at a minimum wage fast food or store job.
>>
>Those regular customers that want to get to know you
>>
>Work fast food at the register and absolutely hate it
>Job opportunity presents itself at a local gas station
Anybody here worked these 2 types of jobs before? Which is better/worse?
>>
>>24074082
I got one job through a friend from school, which was a huge mistake because I couldn't be like "hey can you help me and do your job" without him being like "DUDE CHILL OUT BRO REMEMBER THAT TIME I BOUGHT YOU A SLURPEE" but for the most part I got along great with most people on a superficial level. I'm great at bullshit small talk as slong as it doesn't involve cars or sports.

Quite a few of them I also hung out with outside of work either to go to bars or to smoke a joint in the parking lot, and a couple of them I added on Steam. I even fucked one girl, got rejected by like three.
