My mom sometimes suggests I ask a girl out and once suggested I use a dating site. I eventually just straight up told her it's been about 4 years since I had significant contact with anyone besides her or my sister. About a year ago I was using her phone and saw a text from her friend about setting up a meeting between me and her friend's daughter but nothing ever came of it.
I think she's been getting the point now lately though, because she's gone from just suggesting I ask a girl out or asking me if I've met anyone nice to suggesting I see a psychiatrist or go to therapy.

This is very true, and it may be difficult for anons who had the misfortune of having a shitty mother to realize.
She knows, for a fact, that you are /hers/ - that is, that you represent her successful (such as you are) reproduction. And in almost all cases, her maternal instinct kicked in big-time when you were born, and she's loved you ever since. The nature of this board being what it is, the exceptions to this are many, and can push back on what I've just said.
I read an MRA-tier article a few years ago. It suggested (I think there was some evidence-basis as well) that while the single most devastating loss that an older man can have is to lose his wife (because friends tend to fall away between work and kids growing up, such that only the wife is left toward the end), the single most devastating loss that a mother can have is to lose her child (because her eggs are sparse and she can't just breed again in her 70s like men can).
