My grandparents and I've read similar stories from other people that lived then. I'm pretty sure it would have sustained itself as it was there even before the war. Although I am not too sure how much the economy would have been able to make it without going on a conquerspree. some say it would have been fine, some say the german economy would collapse. regardless it did become pretty much independent from banks within that short time
